Stephanie, welcome. This is a wonderful thread and we're really happy to have you here.
Think its weights and resistance for me today. Onc is recommending a prophylactic ooph for me. Told my Onc, its not the surgery or pain, its that I can't stand the thought of having to cut back on the exercise for awhile. Finally feel like some of my strength is coming back, and the post chemo tamox weight is sssllllooooowwwwwlllly going down, I do not want to back track. Hmm,,,, wonder if they ever do combined ooph and lipo....

Sure, there's plenty of room for more!! Come on in!
Welcome, Stephanie!

Harley - is that your name or do you ride one??? I'm a Harley woman and fitness gaga gal and am a swim instructor now and a previous tri-athlete, LOVE this thread. Thank you all for the greeting and I'm looking forward to getting back to my tip top shape and endurance....lost a lot of strength this last year but am building now. Swimming one of the best over-all forms to help the whole body...my PS told me keep doing whatever it is your doing, becasue it's doing you great......wow, so good to hear positive.....
-
Hi all - Some good investments, hand weights, all sizes, stretch band. I had been trained in resistence training when I ran a YMCA back in the 80's and if you know what to do and how to do it, it works major wonders. It did for me and I've been slowly returning to it. I do like the walking and get that from the local Y on the treadmill, until we have better outside weather here (IL)....I've danced and kept moving 90% of my life thus far and ZUMBA excellent....BOOT CAMP not for the weak and THAT's a MUST if you'll be involved with races or bi-tri athlons....I'm so excited SPRING is just around the corner and am looking forward to this upcoming surgery (March 18th), complete re-do of tram gone ugly and mesh being placed.....then it's off to the NEW improved ME!! :-)
Hugs to all....Stephanie

My favorite tonight, yoga by firelight

Joy,
Yes, my MIL broke her wrist the day before Thanksgiving. Just when they released her to drive again, she came home from physical therapy, and her ankle/foot twisted as she was getting out of the car, and she went DOWN! This is really hard, because I can't go anywhere. On days when my dh works, I am really not able to go out at all. She can't put ANY weight on that foot. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, because next week, she will see her surgeon, and they are putting on a lighter cast, and she should be able to walk with a walker, I hope.
Glad you got the wii. I love the Bowling game! I know, it isn't the exercise!!
Stephanie,
No, I don't ride a Harley. We had one years ago, and I rode, but ONLY as a passenger. I loved it!
Great to hear that you are doing GREAT!!
Harley

Thanks Harley - would so love to enjoy riding in NC and DH and I looking to leave IL within the next 2 years, want to head SOUTH and NC. SC, KY and TN all areas we'd like to possibly live. We just want away from this weather and state. He's originally from here, I am NOT and have been all over this country, I'm a beach lover and sunshine more of the year than not are in our sights.
Doing great and looking forward to upcoming surgery, the down time will just lend it's way to enjoying more physical activity for the spring and summer and beyond!
Enjoy your day!

Hey gals! Completed last chemo yesterday and saw my blood work. No wonder I'm so tired and unmotivated...hemoglobin was 110.
I have recently finsihed a book called Attitudes are Contagious, Are yours worth catching" Nice short book for my chemo brain, but boy talk about motivating! The first chaper was called Motivation is an attitude. I finsihed it and made a goal for myself. So after my sister you are one of the next group of gals to hear it.
I'm planning to run and half marathon. Now I've got some more stuff to go through. Raditation begins in 3 weeks and I have surgeries to contend with for reconstruction. BUT that is not going to stop me from training when I can. I have been on line looking for an amazing place to go that has a half marathon duringthe time frame I am giving myself (Spring 2012). by that time I will be celebrating my 1 year post chemo and my sister will be celebrating her 5th year post chemo. We will run together as survivors.
So I'll be looking to connect with any gals that are runners for tips to restart my engines.
It's gonna be a good year!
-
PitPat,
Congratulations on your LAST CHEMO! WHOHOO!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend! I am very tired today; think I will just rest and be lazy all weekend!!
Harley
P.S. BTW, I went on a run through my neighborhood today.
-
Harley that is fantastic! I wish I could run but I have a bum knee anytime I try so I stick to walking instead......did 3 miles and I am happy with that.
Pitpat what wonderful news......
Stephanie it sounds like you have such motivation and determination for this marathon, way to go!
-
June,
Walking is good, too. I am trying to run, but always USED to walk REALLY FAST... now my running speed is WAY SLOWER than my walking ever was! LOL
I fell last year and really messed up BOTH knees, and that is why t he elliptical machine was so hard on them. I can run ok, albeit very very slow.
Stephanie, WOW... a MARATHON!! WHOHOO!
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Welcome Stepanie, and YAY Pit Pat!
Girls, today is day #4 in a row of no exercise. For those of you who know me, this is not typical! But we have my Mom all set up to go into a nice nursing home that specializes in Dementia. Today my sister and I set up her room. Driving back home tomorrow and will get back on my exercise routine!
And tomorrow I will be sitting in a car for 10 hours going home. But the rest of you, keep moving!!!
-
Spring,
have a safe trip back home! Long trips in the car make me feel so stiff these days.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend!

Welcome Step!
Well it took me 2 days to figure out how to hook up the Wii and I have done 3 days, 30 minutes each since I hooked it up. I am doing the step, balance and hula hoop. It is fun but I want to slap that little Mii. As I go on I will add more movements and work harder. Baby steps here.
I am still walking my Dd and she gets two walks a day. The weather is finally getting warmer and it seems we can walk longer now. We will head for the beach during the week for the walks too.
Spring - be safe coming home. Rain is expected on Sunday and sounds like it is going to be a soaker. Stop often and stretch.
PitPat - great on the marathon. We will help as much as we can. I can cheer!!
-
Made it back home last night. Today did the weights and 45 minutes on the eliptical. Hope you are all okay! Lots of rain here today...
-
My arm and chest have been bothering me again. I was on the coach icing and not moving all weekend. Hopefully can get a work out in today
-
Hi all, I have been sooo busy with scholarship stuff that I haven't had time to post.
My DD had 5 scholarship apps due on Friday, so that has been my computer time. Hopefully she'll get a couple of them.
Well I bought my bike and I love it. Saturday we rode on a trail and it was pretty easy. Yesterday my DH and I went to the lake to ride a trail and it was challenging. I sometimes just got off and walked it up a hill. I hope not to have to do that everytime.
The weather here has been wonderful. A little windy today, but should be nice.
I hope everyone has a great Monday. I need coffee!!!!
-
Dianenv good for you on the bike. It will take some time getting used to it.....my husband pushed me so much last year that I actually looked forward to it towards the end of the summer but in the beginning I was like you....I tried to get up those hills but it took sometime.
Springtime Welcome back! Hope you had a great time.
I feel like I have my groove back as Sat and Sun I did a 3 mile walk. Was having such leg problems and they seem to have lessened.....
-
Been reading but not posting!! Busy lately! I've been moving, but you know me, overdid it last week and had a little setback over the weekend. Will see my chiro tomorrow after work and get my body back in balance! YAY!!
Diane, best of luck to your DD!
back to work, just saying hey hey hey
-
Diane, OH GOODIE!! A bike buddy!!! I love it too! Doesn't it feel like flying?? It is hands down my favorite way to get cardio.
So today, back at the gym for 30 minutes with the weights! Tomorrow, 45 elliptical. Back on the Wagon, girls!!
Mom was moved to her new home today - (Dementia facility) and all went really really well. She is already settled right in, and was eating grilled cheese and ice cream! I feel good about this but wish I was closer. Miss seeing her every day. Wahhhhh.
-
Kari, HI. Same here... reading but not posting as much.
I am using the treadmill in the Amenity center, at least, I did on Sunday, because it was threatening rain, and cloudy, and cooler.
Been busy with my Mother in law, taking care of her, since she broke her ankle. We are taking her to the surgeon today, and I am hoping she will get a lighter cast and be released to start walking with a walker.... Constant trips to the bathroom are starting to get to me!
Sorry about your Mom, Spring. I am glad, though, that she is in a new home, where she can get the care she needs.
Harley
-
For those caring/worrying about Moms, Moms In Law, big hugs to you. I miss my mom too.
One mile on treadmill before work and 25 minutes on trail at lunch time, before I had to scoot over to the library to return book/dvd's. Beautiful day here today!
-
Hello ladies hope everyone is doing well. I just got back from my 3 mile walk outside......the weather here is improving and the roads are losing all the snow. I am totally in my element outside. It does wonders for me. Off to the gym for weights tom with hubby.....have a good one all!
June
-
45 minutes on the elliptical tonight! Was easy - watched a DVR'd show. Tomorrow is 30 minutes weight routine and Yoga!
-
I've been doing at least 30 minutes on the Wii. No one told me the sucker talks to ya. Like I missed a day and was reminded of it! I have been doing the step and some yoga and found out that I hae no balance. I could have told them that before making a butt of myself.
My DS has made it back to Hatteras with my future DIL and 2 granddaughters. They now have to unpack tomorrow. The youngest has a birthday on Thursday too. She turns 7. Both start school on Friday. My adopted family is packing and will be moving out next week and leave the end of the month for Okinawa. Too much coming and going for me.
Rain on Thursday - of course- my day off. Everyone keep moving. Spring is a coming.
-
Sobx- my girlfriend does the Wii every day and over the last 2 years without dieting she went down 2 sizes. So keep up the good work.
I walked 3 miles again today and hit the gym for weights with hubby......
-
30 minutes of weights in the gym and 90 minute yoga! Feeling good. Rain rain rain it looks like. I hope we don't float away! There is a nieghborhood lake across the street!
-
I still haven't gotten much exercise this week... We just got a post op shoe for my mother in law and she has started walking with a walker, and is sporting a spiffy new 'walking' cast, which is denim blue and her shoe is also blue.... so stylish! She will probably be ready to go back to her own house soon. We don't want to move her back too soon.
Harley
-
Did the Wii again today. So many activities on it. The balance one is hard.
Harley glad your MIL is doing better.
Raining here this evening. Of course my day off. Happy Thursday to everyone.
