    THANK GOODNESS!

I went out last night with hubby, we played pool, had a bonfire, and yes, i had some drinks. it was so nice to just let GO! i felt almost normal, and hubby was super great. we had a great time with our friends and yes, i am paying for it today, but so worth it to have a night out where i wasn't counting how many beers i have had because i was worried about it, worried about what i was eating, or just worried PERIOD!

now, today is go time. gotta start chugging that water for good ole taxol tomorrow! tomorrow is 4 of 8! i noticed some peach fuzz like growth on my head, does that mean hair is to come??? hope so!!!

@Lisamomoffour --  I have Taxol every other wednesday - by friday at 3pm or so the body aches start kicking in - within a few hours they are full force.  It is now Monday and they are still there.   And really for me it's more than body aches - seems like every muscle, nerve and joint in my legs jump and twitch - the first round was horrible and my legs would twitch violently - they turned down the toxicity to a manageable level for me now.   I am feeling alot of neuropathy this time- Doc put me on neurontin for the side effects from the taxol.  Not sure it's working. lol.    I don't get to feel normal til around next monday - then I have energy enough for all of us!   Looking forward to my last round.

    Hope all are well tonite.

-- Hope - I miss it too!   You used to be right behind me, and I felt like I was leading the pack - now everyone is all over the place in their schedules and I have no idea who is where anymore !

sammolisa, are you getting neulasta with your taxols? that may be why all the aches and pains too.

i get some backaches with the weekly, but that's really about it as far as aches and pains. my blood counts have fallen, if they are low tomorrow i think i may ask about neupogen, since i can't have neulasta with the weekly taxol.

everyone is sick at my hubby's work, i'm so freaked he is going to pick up something then i will get it!

hope all is having a good night!

Thanks for responding everyone.  I am finding the bone pain to be pretty intense, and it's all over, though the legs are the worst.   Pretty much good for nothing the last couple of days, I tried walking for awhile on the treadmill, that didn't seem to help.  Oh well, fortunately only three more treatments to get through so the end is in sight.  I couldn't work yesterday, not sure I'll be able to make it into the office today either, just too miserable.

Sorry for the vent....just too miserable.   Not to mention the stomach flu is going around the house, already hit two of the kids and our nanny, so I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I just had my 3rd round of Taxol yesterday, one more to go on March 14th and I will be done with Chemo.  I usally get bone pain starting on day 4 and it lasts until days 8 or 9.  Unfortunately, it seems to settle in the bones that I had previously broken, my finger, my ankle and my feet and my right knee which sometimes aches when I exercise.  My feet feel like I walked 20 kilometres in bare feet and all the little bones in my feet ache.  I declined prednazone and another drug.  My doctor said your choice is either to take a drug that could make you puff up like a puffer fish, or one that will make you drowsy and stupid so I choose neither and am just taking tramadol on occasion and using hot pads for my feet.  It helps if someone sits on them as strange as that may sound.

I also had really itchy hands, on the top not the palms which was unusal so he gave me a presciption for a stronger cortisone cream, as I was popping antihistamines to try and control it and I was loosing that battle.

Otherwise, I feel fine just starting to get anxious about rads because I have red hair and the radiation oncologist already said I will most likely get burned skin so she will try and stretch the treatments out over 6-7 weeks.  That is such a long time.

My family has been doing great throughout this and they seem to be fine as long as I am fine and coping.  There's been a few bad days but most are good exercize helps. My girls cannot wait until my hair has grown back so they can use my wigs in the videos that they make.

When they did their routine CT scans they found 2 tiny spots on my liver just before chemo started but they were too small to biopsy.  The doctor did a bone scan and some blood work complete with tumor markers and everthing was normal.  I just did a 3 month follow-up ultrasound on the 2 spots and luckily they are still there (if they had disappeared it would have indicated they were cancerous and that the chemo shrunk them), but still worried about what they could be.  They are not cysts, but not sure what they are.  More worrying for a couple more days...  I guess that's how it will always be whenever you go for a scan, bloodwork, mammogram et cetera for the rest of your life.

Anyway, sorry for the long post.

Hope everyone has found ways to cope with the SE's of taxol, especially the bone pain.

Oh Karebear it is so tough when the little ones get the flu! I can remember my daughter not understanding and she would get sick wherever she was at the moment...trying a bucket or toilet was futile! I hope you don't get sick!

Rachel I am smiling about your daughters wanting to use your wigs!

OK, today is Tuesday, I go for chemo Thursday. I have had a bad day! I felt like I was going to collapse at the grocery store, I have had a headache and body aches. My toenails feel like they are getting pinched. My teeth have hot cold sensitivity (I'm using biotene wash, toothpaste and night gel) and my tongue feels tingly and sore.  Sigh. I was looking forward to a good day. Grumble grumble grumble!

Some good news to share... my regular oncologist is on holidays, but I am loving her replacement.  He called me at home around 5:15 to let me know my blood work and ultrasound show there is no metastis to the liver and not to worry about the two tiny spots on my liver.  So nice of him to call...

On that good note, I am off to see Sara McLaughlin tonight with a friend who has been so supportive and taking me to chemo and helping me out when my husband is out of town on business.

    Have a good evening everyone.

Hi everyone.  Just checking in.  I see everyone is moving right along - done with AC and cranking through taxol.  I am so happy for all of you and wish you all well.  I didn't get half the SE's you are mentioning but then it didn't work well for me so maybe that's why. So embrace the Se's because maybe it means it's working.   i am still stuck on the chemo merry-go-round trying to find one that works.  I am one of those rare ones whose body just doesn't respond.  Oh well. i will keep plugging along and doing what I need to do for as long as am able and that's that.  Best wishes and healing thoughts to all,

    Linda

hope, did you catch my "bad week" bug last week? lol, i do hope tomorrow is better!!  which taxol # will you be on?

rachel, congrats on clear test results! WOOHOO!!!

had taxol #5 of 8 today. chugged right along till i got home, and i have had constipation this whole damn time on chemo. then BAM!! today i get diarrhea! WTH!! oh well, comes with the territory i guess!! Onc was super happy i got out with hubby on sunday and had a great time, he told me not to isolate myself again unless my counts go below 1. the count was 1.3 this week, compared to 1.4 last week. he said if it dips below 1, he will either delay treatment or modify the dosage. I really want to give this cancer the big guns, i don't want to do this ever again, ya know? but he was super encouraging today about trying to live normally. i guess i just was overprotective about my body, which is ok, but i think that in part didn't help the crap fest of a week i had last week.

I think about all you ladies all the time, and brag to everyone how much i love this site, but especially this thread, cause i feel like we are kind of all going through this together, holding eachothers hand through it all

and i feel you all don't single me out cause of my age... which i appreciate.

sending hugs all your way! love, love love, angel!

Thanks Linda for popping in! You are helping me put the SE's in a better perspective tonight- it must be working! Hugs to you, I hope you find something that works well for you!

Rachel I am so glad to hear about the spots on your liver! How nice that he called you to let you know. I hope you enjoy the concert!

Yes Angel, I must be having your week.. but really I do't think mine is quite as bad as yours was. I haven't had to worry about my numbers yet...just feeling lousy. Constipation has been my friend through this... I can't imagine getting diarreah! I was switched from taxol to taxotere...12 treatments 1x a week. I have #4 of 12 this thursday. I love what you wrote about holding hands... I tell everyone about this site too-I am always saying  "on the breast cancer.org site messageboard.." It's so nice to communicate with people that understand!

    Big virtual hugssssss! Cathy

I've been somewhat out of it with a case of bronchitis that developed quickly on Saturday.  I was able to go to my primary doctor and get antibiotics and was well enough on Monday to take my 5th weekly taxol.   I'm pretty good handling all this emotionally but when I thought I might get my treatment delayed I got really fearful, like if that happened it would hurt my chances of survival.   An old friend of mine used to say, "the worst things that ever happen to me never really happened."

This experience was one of those.  But it also framed what we are in the midst of as deadly serious. Life and death.    We have to be gentle and kind to ourselves. Everyone take good care.

Thanks everyone for the support.  Today was so much better I woke up and the pain was very tolerable, so back to work.  I"m a little worn out, but relieved to be done with the worst of this cycle.  I'll have to talk to my onc about the next cycle, so we can manage it better.

Hope everyone is having a good day.  Lindaa -- hang in there, I hope they find the right protocol for you.  Keeping you in my thoughts.

Hi Lisa - I've been having a horrible time with the Taxol.  I've had 2 and had to be hydrated and given some extra steroids just to get through.  I was getting DD every other week and my doctor is changing me to once a week, but I have to have 6 more treatments.  (I was only supposed to have 2 more)  It really only adds 2 total weeks on, which makes me sad, but he says it should be easier on me.  I can't tolerate that pain anymore.  Frown

I haven't posted on here in a while, truth is I've not much even wanted to look at my computer.  Tonight however I'm feeling really sad and down on myself.  I've not felt like this in a while.  I've mostly been upbeat and positive.  I am also feeling extremely lonely.  Undecided

Come on spring - end of chemo and hopefully the start of something good.

Oh DivaJ -- I'm so sorry you are having such a bad time.  I would have to agree with you, this pain is terrible, I hope going to the weekly cycle will make it easier on you.  Hang in there..... if the pain is tolerable, I bet the six weeks will go by fast, and then spring will be here.

Been MIA...Had a Pet Scan done on Tuesday. Now it is the waiting game for the results. Hopefully by Friday. My appt with onc is not till the 23rd. Did my A/A/Z today been wired and dizzy almost like vertigo when I lay down the room even spins. Creepy feeling. Took meds to sleep but nothing is working. Dr recommend Bendryal took 2 and have a cough med Dr gave me for this cough I have had for a month now. No congestion of any kind. the cough med has codine. took my ambien nothing has worked. So wide awake I am. Oh ladies I do recall those Taxol days. Though I thought it was better than Cisplatin/Taxotere and better than Adrciymicin/Cytoxan the carboplatin/Taxol was the mildest of them all. Though I have to say Abraxane/Avastin/Zometa now are the least SE;s I have had compared to them all. Wish you all the best I am half way through. So we are hoping the chemo is wo rking stabilizing the areas and not spreading. Good luck everyone with your up coming surgeries. Take care sisters

    Blessings your way

    Take good care.

    sleep has eluded me.....

told my onc on tuesday i can't sleep despite the 2 mg of ativan i take. he tells me to stop taking it cause it's only for anxiety. well, what the hell does he think keeps me up at night!!!??? he tells me to try to set a bedtime, and follow it, and have some white noise in the background. i have tried this for 2 nights now, and i toss and turn and toss and turn....

i think i will go back to my ativan....at least i got *some* sleep on it!

hubby and i went out to play pool, at our fav little local bar, and i had my wig on and my eyebrows penciled in nicely. i thought i looked alright, ya know, considering and all. a guy came up to us and asked if he could play pool with us, so we all introduce eachother and start playing. the guy tells my husband, "you have an absolutely beautiful wife, you are a lucky man, " and my husband replies "yes, i do, and yes i am!"

this guy had no idea in the world i had cancer, fake hair, or anything! he just thought i looked nice! and that was huge......

    Evening my lovely, beautiful sisters!

Things are ok today - not great cause I have NO energy. Okay maybe a  little.   I went to the craft store and had to come home and rest.   Seems like my energy doesn't come back after these Taxol tx's for awhile.   ONE MORE TO GO!!!!!! Less than a week now and I am done done done with chemo!

Doc says  he will do a blood ck on me the week after like normal and if everything comes back ok like it has been then he will schedule to get the port out.  He doesn't  think a pet scan is gonna be worthwhile on me so no petscans.  I do however have my CT scans and my body molds set for the 23rd, before the rads start.

Ebann,  - so nice to hear from you!  Prayin the scans come back with good news!

I am having trouble sleeping still too -  the nights i get sleep seem very few and far between.  I went to my primary care phys with my hubby so he could get  a ckup and NONE of my doctors have updated him on my cancer.  He didn't even know I had it!  He was rather upset and got on the phones right away and made them all start sending him stuff.   He is suggesting I go on something stronger than ativan for sleep - - it's called Trazadone.  Gonna try it tonite and see how I do.

    Hugs to all!

    Lisa

I am so excited to see you guys in the home stretch!  I sat through so much of December, watching you guys get started while I waited to start at the very end of December... now I watch you guys finishing and know that my turn is coming too.

My energy is back and the bone pain is gone, so I guess I have a pretty good week ahead of me until next Thursday, when I go in for Taxol #2.  Yecch.

Received call from Dr office. Was told that the chemo is showing a good response and there is no spreading to the lungs. So my appt with onc is the 23rd and I will find out if it is shrinking in the areas or if it is stabilizing. More than likely will continue to as we are until done which will be the end of June. Probably another Pet Scan in July then go from there.
