Checking in...:)
June2268 ~ how's the ears ringing lately? Did it let up? Mine's the same
and I wonder if it will ever get better?
LtotheK ~ I'm on Tamox 90 days to the day and my hair has been growing like weeds, but they are not as easy to style as before. I did not have chemo.
Jo ~ so glad that your toe pain has subsided considerably with Lyrica. Keep us posted, K?
Peg119 ~ I have a similar pain issue as you and no one can put a finger on it. Even if they knew, they are most likely going to deny that it was their treatment that caused the ongoing or abrupt pain. I still feel sore under the SNB underarm and the breast is still sore
and there are other days that I will feel pain down the side or by the shoulder blade.
Dawney ~ good luck with your upcoming MO appointment.
BTW, what's up with all those delicious food pictures??? They look sooooo good!!! I'm salivating here
and I wish my cooking turns out like the pics! LOL
-
Eastcoastgirl, glad your ovaries are ok except for the simple cyst. I get those too. My gyno says they come and go and he checks me every 6 months.
Chevy, how old are you if you don't mine telling? You seem young to me in your posts. I just don't picture you being OLDER.
Hope those hearing aids work out !!!
JO, ribs and steak ~ YUM.
Sandee, those sleep aids can make your brain foggy the next day. I try not to take it unless I am desperate for sleep. For the most part I live sleep deprived.
Hope everyone is doing well.
-
Good Morning Alicia,
Now that I'm on Tamoxifen, I guess I'll be getting my ovaries checked more often too :P
The only sleep aids I've used in the past are Unisom. Basically benedryl. But since the oncologist put me on Vitamin D, I've slept so much better
My husband is always on Long Island. We live in Maryland, but he's a pilot with American and flies out of JFK. So lots of commuting! My family still lives in NJ, so I'm up there a lot too.
Have a great day!

Diamondgirl I only had 2 episodes of the ear problems so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I wont have any more episodes. I stopped doing the Biotin as I wasn't sure of it was from that so we will see.
Jo I am so thrilled that you are getting releif. You must be on cloud nine......YAY!!!!
Sherryc I wish we lived closer as me and my daughter would be over in a heartbeat, that sounds yummy!!! I always laugh and tell my daughter she is going to make some man happy as she eat like a man......she loves everything to do with food and she is thin, thank goodness....
However I worked out at the gym 11 days ago and thought I over did it with my legs as they were really sore the next few days, but the pain has been getting worse. It started in the upper thighs, almost at the socket of the joint then it radiated down my leg and now is onto the knee which has been for days and I am having a hard time going up and down stairs. I thought it was due to the gym but now I am not sure. I have not done any sort of exercise for 11 days and it just seems to be getting worse. I now have a problem in my right leg like a constant achiness. What do you think it is? I can't seem to think it is anything other than Tamox, but is it? How does one know? I hate to be a hypochondriac as I never was before, but I hurt so bad and feel like I am in my 60's as walking is killing me.......
-
JUNE I have been having leg pains to th eupper part of the leg. I also thought it was from the treadmill, but its not an ache its kinda like sharp shooting pains. It comes and goes but seems worse when Im not moving very strange... I think it is the Tam... but who know, I notice every changein my body now where before I didnt pay attention to too much unless it was really noticeable... our new normal I guess
HAVE A GOOD DAY LADIES!
-
Day 2 with the Lyrica and I am feeling soooo good I can't believe the difference. This is so incredible. Feels like I am back to my old self and looking ahead. Absolutely no complains today.
Hope everyone has a great day!
Oh! Almost forgot - June, Tink and rest of you ladies - breakfast is served.
-
MissTW - Yes! I have noticed my hair is different. My skin is also different. I've never had great hair, but it is much worse now. Doesn't seem to matter what I put on it, it just has a funny texture and is difficult to manage. Where I used to have very nice skin and only minor breakouts for a few days during the cycle, it seems to be in the "minor breakout" stage 100% of the time now. Could be b/c I'm having a period every 21 days instead of 28? Could be b/c of the 10cm complex ovarian cyst I have? Could be because of my age? Who knows . . . I just can't figure any of this. But as someone on a recent post stated, I think we're all hyper-sensitive to every change in our bodies since starting Tami, suspicious all the time. Yes, shitty is a good word to describe all of it.
-
Jo ~ breakfast looks YUM !!
Tink and June ~ sorry about the leg pains, I will get it once in a while and thought it was just me. But as I am trying to get used to the Tamox (91 days now), it is giving me different SEs. I just can't wrap my fingers around it.
Pennythoughts ~ my kind of hair issue and skin complaints exactly. I have the minor breakout (perpetually) on the upper lip corner and below my lower lip where it indents a little. Nothing helps. It will clear for a day or two and bam, they're back. I never had acne when I was a teenager so "a delay"? LOL!!!
I have a 12:00PST noon phone interview for a job today, wish me luck!!!
-
Hi Just me! No, I don't mind at all telling how old I am....I'll be 74 in about 5 months, ha! So naturally I thought I was "too old" to get breast cancer....Nope! Never too old for anything I guess.
I also wondered about hearing loss from just BEING older, but it happened so fast...like within 3 months ago....so they know it is nerve damage...but not likely from natural aging, but from "drugs".....
I read where it takes 1-2 weeks for Tamoxifen to get out of your blood-stream....Maybe a miracle will happen by then, & I can hear!.....But I'm getting hearing aids anyway.....Man, it is so frustrating to just "lose" it!
Have fun kids! xoxoxoxo

Good morning all. I thought I would go by topic today:
1. Cramps/Toe Pain/Neuropathy - I have had really bad LEFT foot/toe cramps since starting tamoxifen. I blame it on Tamoxifen.
2. Stabbing breast pain - I am 3 years from surgery and rads, and I still get these pains. They range from uncomfortable to 'take my breath away'. My MO tells me that they now know that 50% of PRE-menopausal women who have lumpectomies experience long-term pain. He too says it is nerve damage.
3. Hair/Skin changes - yup. I've got both. I think my hair feels dryer, 'older' if that is possible. My skin is thinner, dryer and looks older. I blame Tamoxifen for both.
4. Joint pain - knees, hips, and even feet. After sitting for long periods of time, I get up and look like an old woman trying to walk. (I'm only 46, and this all started for me at 43). I blame the Tamoxifen
5. Ovaries/Pelvic Pain - I have experienced cramping and pelvic pain nearly every day since starting Tamoxifen. I have Transvaginal US's every 6 months (I have one today). I have had a hysterosonogram, a laparoscopy and accupuncture. I have found no relief, and no answer to my pain. We had hoped the laparoscopy would find recurrent endometriosis - it found nothing (good news/bad news situation). My gynecologist, and a gynecological oncologist have both described me as having 'angry organs'. So, I manage, day by day.
6. Shoes - I went on a shoe buying binge for the first 6 months of Tamoxifen. I blamed that on Tamoixfen too.
I blame Tamoxifen for most things. This way, I can trick myself into thinking the joint pain, hair and skin changes aren't because I'm getting older.
Enjoy your day everyone, whatever it may bring.
-
OK. I started to take Tamoxifen about a month ago, and the only change I found is with the ovulation pain that we usually have about 2 weeks before our period. It usually last a day or two, but this time it was a lot more painful and it lasted for a week. Taking an Advil did help. However it is now OK and I will see how it goes next month,,,,I do not have other SE, except maybe I may be a bit crankier...may or may not be related to Tamoxifen, however, for my husband's sake, I am blaming it on it. :-) Oh BTW, 20 yrs wedding anniversary today!!! Let's go for another 20 years.
-
Barbie7 you have been on Tamox for a very long time and there is nothing they will do for you and the joint/toe cramps/neuropathy? I am seriously wondering if I really need to be on this med. I mean I know I should, but my lifestyle these last 11 days has SUCKED.....I am a huge walker as it keeps my weight down and I love it as it makes me feel great. But I have not been able to do anything and I wonder if this is what I am going to deal with long term, then I don't want it.
Tink are you also going to live with the pain? It seems as you can exercise and not be affected, is that true? I used to love the elliptical and last week I tried to get on it and could not do it due to the pain I am having. I honestly can say I never thought I would get anything as the months were really kind to me.....now it is like a cruel joke......
Jo I love how you take care of us ladies. Always such a wonderful selection of food, never boring.....I am also so happy as you sound pumped to be feeling great.....finally, good for you!
Chevyboy I love that you are 74, you don't sound like your even close to that age with your post. You seem like such a hot ticket.......do you have grand-kids? I bet they love you.....
MissTW/Pennythoughts My hair has suffered too and trust me when I say that I have baby fine hair and have to use a lot of product just to get some oomph, and ever since I started it has a mind of its own......very brittle almost like it is getting fried. I talked to my hairdresser and she says sometime meds can do that, but I wonder if it is something more......who knows, again a freakin mystery......
-
JUNE..Yes so far I can live with it as it comes and goes and seems worse at night aftre the night time pill but that could be because I am less active at night and notice it more. It seems to feel better when I am up and moving. I agree June sometimes this whole journey seems cruel, but we will get through it a day at atime my dear friend hugs!!!!
JO... WOW what an elegant looking breakfast.. yumm yumm thank you!
... I am soooo thrilled that you are feeling so good and your little piggies are doing well , as well as the rest of you
... good news my friend!!!!
DIAMONGIRL...Good luck with your phone interview... will say a extra prayer today for you! :0
JEANNE.... Happy Anniversary!!! thats wonderful... I have that ovary cramping thing too. as a matter of fact I have felt PMS-ISH for the last week, keep thinking oh its here because of the cramping feeling but nope not yet... this one should be a doozy!!! yikes....
Jo speaking of PMS..Could we do a sweet kind of dessert tonight pleeaasseee.... hehehe
CHEVYBOY.You must be a young 74 because you do sound awesome. !!! Please keep us posted on your progress hugs!
BARBIE...I LOVE the fact that you blame shoe shopping on Tamoxifen lol!!! I am going to go to Kohls and do the same thing...
priceless !!! I can also relate to the after sitting awhile getting up is much slower than it used to be... Im right around your age only 42... so I think its the Tam too!
Hugs to all you wonderful ladies today!!! another sunny day here! wahoo!!!

June - from day one I have always said that I will look at taking this drug three months at a time (that is how often I see my MO). I have also said that if my SE's are REALLY adversely effecting my life, that I would consider quitting. True, there are days that I feel dreadful. There are times that I have a great deal of pain. But there are MORE days that are tolerable than days that are not. So, until then I will continue to take Tamoxifen. I also struggle with the anxiety of NOT taking tamoxifen, so that plays into it a little bit.
I have to say that my first month on Tamoxifen, I felt like I had the flu, that 'hit by a truck' feeling. I was also nauseus. That subsided with time. I don't want to influence anyone's decision to stay on the drug or go off of it - that is a personal decision. That being said, I will encourage any decision you make. For now, you are doing great - keep it up!
My path, and my decisions have surprised even me sometimes. I've learned that I'm much stronger than I ever thought I could be.
-
Barbie, I love the way you blame everything on tamoxifen! I will DEFINITELY do that if/when I resume.
I don't think I gave the tamoxifen a long enough try to see if it affected my hair, but I only have almost half an inch growing back since the end of chemo, so don't think I would notice much difference anyway at this point.
It has been two and half weeks since I stopped the tamoxifen and almost all of my pain has subsided, but since I couldn't be active during the six weeks that I was on it, I was unable to exercise and so now I am completely deconditioned and it's very easy to hurt myself when I do try to get the exercise in. Yesterday was the first day I had been able to be out of bed for 11 consecutive hours since starting the tamoxifen, and I really don't want to repeat these troublesome symptoms, but have the anxiety of NOT taking the tamoxifen. Oh yes, I continue to have hot flashes but certainly not to the extent or severity that I had two weeks ago!
So today the weather is great and I don't have any excuse for NOT getting up for a walk today so will aim for 30 min. of a good, brisk walk! Hope you all have a great afternoon!
-
Estrogen stimulates the hair folicle, so that's why a lot of pregnant women get that "glow". I'm assuming that Tam may have the opposite effect. Loss of luster because the hair folicle is less happy. I seem to be going gray at an expedient rate...I'm in my late thirties and since the BC Dx, I have all of these grays standing straight off of the top of my head. I guess I can look forward to the loss of luster too, after I start my Tam!
-
Wow! This train moves too fast for me. Don't have time to respond to all the postings since breakfast. I hope everyone is having a great day.
-
Moves too fast for me too Jo!!
But do want to say that I just love ya Chevyboy! Your posts ALWAYS make me smile.
You are radiant and it shows through in your posts. I also wanted to say, that if I were you I would also say no to drugs, you've done your time.
I truly hope your hearing increases the more tamoxifen comes out of your system!
Jo, so glad to see you are feeling better!!
June, sooo sorry you are feelling so bad.
That sucks and seems like a cruel joke for sure, since you did so well early on. Something for us all to look forward to I guess. ??
Tink, yes my exchange surgery is this Friday!
Ok, I didn't take notes and can't go back a page to see who I'm forgetting!! I will lose what I've written (can't copy in firefox here for some reason?? ) Sorry if I missed someone!! Hope everyone is rolling along and feeling good.
Happy Wednesday!!

Ok, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around this supplements/antioxidants thing. I have read that everyone has cancer cells in their body...just whether they will do anything or not. Now think.....are we not protecting cancer cells in that situation also if we are taking those supplements? Seems so. I just can't figure this out in my mind. I understand that we don't want to protect those nasty cells and let the treatment do it's job but seems that the supplements would help our immune system fight the enemy? I go to my Onc tomorrow and will see what she says but I just don't know what to do? I don't take Vit C or E or A but do take Vit D, Ubiquinol (form of CoQ10), Krill oil (omega3), Quercetin, Inositol (which I researched was supposed to make NK cells stronger etc.....now I'm reallyyyy leary of that one because I'm not wanting to make a cancer cell stronger!)
Anyway, just rambling....so frustrating all of it really.
-
EastCoastGrl - Yes, the supplements/antioxidant thing is really confusing and frustrating. So many onc have so many different opinions. I have decided to just trust what my onc tells me. I am not going to stress about it. I have enough to worry about.
-
My radiation oncologist says don't take any supplements. My medical oncologist says take whatever you want. And they both work in the same office. So there really is no consensus. I say do what makes you happy. You can't reallly predict the future. Aside from never having children I am about the lowest risk possible for gettng breast cancer but I got it anyway. So all these recommendations don't amount to much in my book!
-
Hey June!!!!!! My Grandsons???? Oh don't even get me started! One is 25, and the youngest is 23....They are so cute! Our Daughter was here in Denver & Colo.Springs, until they moved to Orlando about 12 years ago....
But I was there when both boys were born, & I was so lucky, because I only worked part-time, & I got to keep them on my days off!!!!!!!!! When Brandon was a baby, he used to cry when "Mom" picked him up, so she would drive around the block to come back for one more kiss & a hug.... Oh man, I miss those boys...
When they were little I used to pack them up & we would go to Casa Bonita every week, & to any restaurant to eat pan-cakes with Strawberries & whipped cream!!! We would ride the Georgetown loop railroad, climb around old silver mines, have picnics in the ditch next to our house..........
....
Those were honestly the best years of my life....When they moved, at least they were much older...like 12 & 14, (I think) So it wasn't so hard to lose them....They still call us every week...
And we see them about once a year.... But that closeness is there, even over the phone....Aw, don't get me started...... Oh, I guess I already did.......
I will be able to hear you all tomorrow!!!!!!!!! I'm too happy!!!!! xoxoxoxo
-
Barbie ~ LOL, I have to agree with Tink about you blaming shoes buying binge on Tamox. Haha, I am on the "same boat" and I've bought 4 pairs of shoes in the past 2 weeks not including buying 2 pairs for DD and 2 pairs for DS. I am waiting for DH to freak out!! hehe
GirlFriday ~ me too, I'm getting a lot of greys all of a sudden
Tink ~ thank you, I scored a 2nd interview so I'm just waiting for that appointment
-
Diamondgirl congrats on the 2nd interview, that is huge!!!
Chevyboy those boys are very lucky to have you close or far away.....I hope I will be one of those Grandmothers. You can ramble on any day I love hearing what you have to say and your stories are priceless....
Tink I know I am going to sound stupid, however keep in mind that I have not had any reconstruction done, so please tell me what an exchange surgery is all about.
Jo whats for dinner I am starving.....I love a good ham hint hint..
Okay question for all you ladies. When you are having a problem as I am with my legs, who do you call? MO or Primary? I hate that I have no idea who to call when I am hurting....
-
JUNE I always call my ONC first with any questions...I sent you a pm. :0
DIAMONGIRL That is awesome sooo happy for you still praying!
-
JO....I dont mean to be pushy but I am craving something sweet for dessert.. you know with all the pms and stuff hehehehe
-
June - Dinner is served - Enjoy.
Tink - You spoiled brat! Love Ya though.
-
June - I would call my MO. Seems he wants to be the one to do all my care. He is leaving the stuff like blood pressure and cholesteral to my GP. I like this arrangement - less confusing.
-
JOOOOO..You rock the funny thing is that IS what I made myself for dessert hahahaha your the best! love ya too!!!!! Im so spolied I know it..
but pleaseantly full
. hehehe
-
Jo you are the BOMB that is so what I needed......kiss kiss! I love reading your post you always make me LMAO!!!
Tink it looks like this month we might be on the same schedule or close to it for that matter, so push over sista as that dessert looks too large for a tiny woman like you.......
