Tamoxifen and bone pain
I've been on tamoxifen for almost 1 month without any noticeable side effects except for some bone pain on my spine about in the middle of my back. It feels quite sore (like bruised) when I touch it and bending over to tie shoes or put socks on makes it really hurt alot. Even sitting in a chair and leaning forward makes it hurt. Has anyone else had this? It started about 10 days ago. I'm wondering if it's not from the tamoxifen and maybe something else is causing it. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi, Kim, I am going on 5yrs on Tamoxefin and I have bone pain, mostly on my elbows and knees. For safety and assurance I would have it checked out since your pain is on a more "dangerous" area.

Hi Keepthefaith,
I'm going to see the ocologist tomorrow and will see what she says.
Thanks!

I took it for 11 months and had to stop because of bone pain. I'd wake up in the middle of the night with my thigh or shin bones throbbing....plus the knees couldn't do stairs anymore. I feel 100% better now (been off it since late October) - but I do a mammo and an MRI every six months. Some people cut their dosage in half and that helped relieve the pain.

My right ankle started huring within a few weeks of starting tamoxifen. My hips and my knees followed shortly after. I have talked to both my oncs about this pain and they just kind of say "yes, that happens and is a side effect". So far it hasn't been bad enough to even consider stopping but can be annoying. Interestingly enough I have a met at T10 on my spine and have not ever had any pain associated with it.

I just saw my ocologist today and she does not think the pain in my spine (middle of the back area) is being caused by the Tamoxifen. She said she can't be 100% sure but that it most likely is from something else. I'll have to talk to my PCP and see what she says.So it looks like I'll stay on the Tam a day at a time. She said if the back pain continues and we can't find it's cause I will stop the Tamoxifen for a few weeks and see if it goes away.

Sunflower I am on my 10th month on Tami and I thought I was doing great, however 11 days ago the pain is so bad in my leg (thigh area) and now in my knee. I am having such a hard time walking up and down stairs and I am not sure what to do next.....this is all so frustrating....I have a appt with my MO at the end of March where I will find out if this is the cause of Tami or not, I am even considering going off it as it is affecting my daily exercises as well.....I am 45 year old and now feel like 65.....I thought if I was going to get SE they would be ealry not this late into the game.....
Little cold outside today huh?

Hi June,
Do the SE show up after months? If the pain is so bad your having trouble walking up and down stairs you may need to be seen earlier. Especially having it interfere with your exercise is not good for your overall health. I'm not going to exercise (except walking) until this back pain goes away. The nurse suggested Ibuprofen and it's helping some what. I hope you get to the bottom of your pain soon.
