Please check this out!! Laws are being passed to tell women of the density of their breasts.

Mammograms do not see through dense breast tissue. Please ask your doctors about the density of your breasts.

I had an 8 cm tumor that the mammogram never saw. June of 2009 I had a clear mammo... all of my mammogram reports from the radioligists said my breasts were dense and the mammogram could not see through them!! NO one told me!!! I should of been getting other screenings

    Hi Towny,

I did check out this website...it is alarming. Unfortunately, with an HMO when the mammogram states that nothing could be seen with mammography, they will not move forward with a ultrasound or MRI. My mammogram report always states that I have dense breast tissue, hard to read with mammogram. I am advocating for myself...I went to another breast center and had another mammogram (which seems redundant), but I am following there process in order to move on to a ultrasound. I am paying for the ultrasound myself. I

How are you doing at this time?

Yes, the problem is that US doesnt' always show either. I had a 4 cm tumor that the Mammo picked very late, only after the DCIS started making a lot of micro-calcifications, and the US afterwards didn't pick a thing! Only the MRI did.

    Dear Pink rose

I am doing very well. I am triple neg. and my last rad was June 10 2010. Your Doctor can prescribe you an ultra sound. All the doc has to do is have a good reason to have one. Please be persistant or find a doc who knows the risk of dense breast tissue. That is why we are fighting to get laws made!! We have to make laws so the doctors will do their job!! Also why does the American Cancer Society not put this up front more!! They are not supporting the movement at all. Please write your politicians and make difference so the women in the future and your self have a better chance of fighting this disease. I have written several assemblpeople and congress and senators and all of them are behind us.. why not the american cancer society.  Susan G Komen is behind it too. DENSE NY on facebook and Areyoudense. org and there are women all over the country trying to make a difference.  I am from NY and Areyoudense is from CT. There is Imdense are on face book who is from FL. And there is a woman from TX we are all fighting to make a difference. Too bad we all had to have late stage of BC before we knew anything about this.  Please get an ultra sound ASAP

Day is right - ultrasounds are better than just mammo alone, but still not enough.   When I went for my U/S for a lump that mammo never showed (but you could feel it), the tech couldn't even find it.   I had to guide her.   So had it just been a routine thing, she would never have found it.

Towney - You may want to check out the thread For Women With Dense Breast Tissue on this web site - which has been discussing this issue.  It's a very important issue.

    Dear Toni3

Yes I know how important the densse tissue issue is. I met Dr. Nancy Cappello and am supporting areyoudense.org 100%... Why the american cancer society does not get behind this issue is another question.  My docs never told me that is what is important.. educate and information for the women so we can be vigilent in taking care of ourselves. The dense breast issue is not getting enough attention!!!  I tell everyone about this!! It is amazing how so many women do not know.
