any friends in Austin?
With my family all out on the West Coast, my husband and I are on our own here in Austin. I plan on finding a support group through other means, but was wondering if anyone on this site lives around Austin...

I am nearby, in San Antonio. My family lives in Austin, and I go back there almost every weekend to spend time with them. They live on the SW side, near Dripping Springs.
Welcome to the board, though I hate that you have to join us!

Yea! Glad someone is (kind of) nearby. I feel so alone out here. I am strong and so far all news has been good considering, but now I'm worried about LE because my arm hurts and is slightly swollen. I am trying to stay calm.
I'm in Lakeway, not far from DS. I've been to San Antonio a few times but don't know the area much at all. Very cool town though! I will happily email you my phone number if you'd like to talk. Thanks so much!!

Hi Lynda. I live in Austin. Please know you are not alone....sending positive thoughts your way and just a hop and a skip away should you need anything.

Hi Westiemom... I'm so glad I found you! I'll send you a PM...

Two years ago we moved from Delaware to Kerrville, TX.. We lived in Austin for a few months while our house was being built in Kerrville. I fell in love with Austin, but my dh hates its traffic. It was definitely rough moving to a new area and getting cancer the following year. Worse part was not knowing any doctors.
May the new year bring us all good news.

I am in San Antonio and am new to this site. I am awaiting news of my biopsy taken a week ago. Any help or encouragement you can give me will be welcomed. I have yet to find a good
oncologist.

Hi TX Lady... not sure if Texas Oncology is in San Antonio, but I am quite happy with them, and many other people I talked to said the same thing. A lot of us went to different locations too. They seem to be a really good organization in my opinion. I hope they're in San Antonio. I had a breast surgeon order the biopsy in the first place (was recommended from my OB), and when the results came back positive, I was referred from the BS to the oncologist at TX Oncology. I am sure whomever ordered the biopsy will give you guidance from there. We are here to support you the whole way through... let us all know what happens and anytime you have questions, ask. There are a great group of ladies on this website! We wish you all the best and will be here to help in any way we can.

I don't live there but understand there's a huge BC community in Austin. Best of luck in making connections!
-
Darnit, I lost this thread - so sorry saturn! Have you managed to connect with other BC women in your area?
TXLady - CTRC, START Center, and Cancer Care Centers of S TX are all great here in SA. 80% of biopsies are b9, so you may not even need an onc! All of those are in the medical center, within a small radius of each other. PM me if you want more info.
My dad's onc was from TX Oncology (Dr Tokaz), and a good friend from school is an onc there (Dr. Jennifer W..? I forgot her married name... Warner? maiden name was DeBrecht). They are so fabulous there.

jdeking- I have connected, mostly through women I've met going to my morning rads! There are also a few support meetings but I haven't checked into them as of yet. Too much going on!
-
Oh yes, I made great friends with my rads cohorts. We still keep in touch almost 2 years later!
Once rads are over, and hair is really regrowing, life picks back up the pace and you really start returning to normal, which feels pretty good!
PM me if you ever feel like it and I can give you my email (I am a great pen pal, but not such a great phone pal, lol)

I'm in San Antonio as well. Feel free to PM whenever you want. We're less than an hour away from you....
