    I saw the last of my consults today. He agrees with the others (except for the doctor involved in my original surgery) that implants are impossible for me.  Too much skin loss.  I am not ready to do any other extensive surgery at this point in time.  So it is over.  I tried. In researching this I met a few doctors who I really admire.

    Life can certainly throw curve balls when least expected.  Thank you all for your encouragement and well wishes.

    Sigh........Femme.........sorry to post in two places..........I'm sorry for the discouraging news..........have you thought about getting some plastic surgery to at least make your chest smoother? I think there was a woman who did that - she posted over at the breast prothesis forum a while back. You shouldn't have to live with bumps and ridges!

    Oh, Femme, I'm so sorry. My neighbor across the street was very dissatisfied with her reconstruction surgery with Dr. Shon, so she just got expanders from Dr. Pusic at Sloan. Have you tried her?  My friend is in pain but already happier than she was with Shon's work as far as the way it looks.

    Thank you for the info, Letlet. I also saw that book and was pretty upset. It's hard to go in and have to cut off breasts that you've always been perfectly happy with. Major bummer. I'm still adjusting. But I also realize now how every day is a gift. It's quite a roller coaster ride.

    invigorating this thread... Looking for the best DIEP surgeon in NY/NJ or LI??? I live in NJ and am considering going to NOLA, but would prefer to stay near home... Have heard good things about Dr Disa??

    Dr Alan Stolier was my breast surgeon- amazing nipple sparing bilateral mastectomy.

     He works with Dr Allen.

    I thought Dr Stolier was in New Orleans??? And Dee, I am interested to see/hear how your DIEP goes... I will  be meeting with ta local PS soon, but he doesn't do DIEP, but maybe he has some words of wisdom... hope so as he is my friends husband.

    Those guys do get around!  I think he tends to be in NY when Allen is there.  I know they work together a fair amount.

    I had Diep with Dr. Joshua Levine at NY eye and ear in Dec 2010. Everything is perfect so far and Dr Levine is a very empathetic Dr. I'm in my late 50's and I was skiing downhill within 4 weeks of surgery. My suggestion to anyone considering this surgery is to get up an move as soon as possible and keep moving. My stomach is the flatest it's been since I was 14. I feel terrific and I haven't had any other stages done yet because I didn't want to interfere with ski season any more than necessary.

    Dr. Christina Ahn, E. 77th street, NYC was my PS for bilateral DIEP and she was excellent and very experienced.  She has her own office but assists at Dr. Allen's surgeries.  Though I wasn't introduced to him I was told he was part of my surgical team in the operating room.

    When I was going for 2nd and 3rd opinions after a year and one half of living without breasts, I saw Drs. Ahn, Choo and Israeli.  They all concured that I could not have implants, too little skin and muscle left.  However, I felt confident that each one was an honest, competent plastic surgeon, and I wish I had seen any of them originally, instead of having had my bungled surgery at Weill Cornell, at first.  

    Please remember that this is just my opinion, based on my experiences,  I know there are people who have written that they had a good experience there.

    I find it interesting that this thread goes on over time.  I think it is very helpful for many women based in or near NYC, and I am happy for this.

    I met with a PS in Princeton today who does not do DIEP and when I asked him about DIEP doctors, he recommended Dr Chang in Baltimore, didn't mention anyone in NY or PA... that concerned me a bit.

    I've just joined this forum just to answer your question. DR. ANDREA PUSIC at Memorial Sloan Kettering is a GENIUS and so talented!!! You have to meet with her!!! I cannot recommend her enough. She will do a beautiful job on you. My breasts look better now, than ever! Sending you the very best wishes.

    Hi - I just posted on your other thread - and yes, I ended up with a muscle-sparing free tram which was done by my original PS (whom I do NOT recommend - Dr. Michael Koch; another woman recommended him, but I see she had implants with Alloderm - maybe Dr. Koch is good with that procedure, but I was very unhappy with his "Diep" (that's what he called my procedure; it wasn't until I read my operative reports that I realized he gave me a muscle-sparing free tram by removing a cuff of muscle for each perforator vessel. I had other issues with him (he was always polite, but never acknowledged the reality of my problems), so I switched to Dr. Ron Israeli (who performs Dieps as well as other flap methods) - he came highly recommended from another woman on this web site. Dr. Israeli fixed my foob so well - he's really a perfectionist!     i am due to visit dr Salzberg after 1 unfortunate revision at sloane

    what did you think of dr Salzberg?

    anyone else would like to comment or recommend a good PS in NY or Westchester?

    Re:Israeli; I just saw the staff there and the nurse mentioned that for a bilateral DIEP SIX drains were used. I have never heard of more than 4 being used ! A bit worried ..
