My path report didn't make any sense.  I went from the MRI stating that my tumour was 3.5 cm to the path report saying it was 6.5 and no one could say why that was.  I think a second opinion is a great idea.

Thank you for this post. I watched the video and it made me feel better about asking for a second opinion on the pathology, which I did today. Don't get me wrong - I'm happy with the way my final pathology turned out after my BMX - but it did show that I had Paget's disease of the nipple in addition to DCIS. I'm glad that it was all non-invasive, but Paget's is so rare that I'm wondering if there was a mistake made. I'm hoping there wasn't. I'm the type of person that hates to "make a fuss" or wants to make waves, but I really think getting a second opinon is going to make me feel better about it. I only get one shot to get this right.

    Yes. Consider a second opinion.

My community pathologist read a core biopsy as three cancers, one with aggressive tendencies.

2nd opinion at teaching hospital was ALH.

Bilateral Mastectomies path report was LCIS @ community hospital and AHL @ teaching hospital although samples sent to teaching hospital were reported to be inadequate.

Wonder if local onc would have offered treatment based on original path report?

YES and always request a second opinion!  That's my opinion and always have the second opinion be done by a facility that works more closely with cancer, breast cancer.. there are many good options available... I used Vanderbilt and did get a slightly different reading.  It's very easy to request a second opinion - I just told my bs that I would like to have it reviewed by Vanderbilt and he asked "why" and I told him we lived in a world were we are encouraged to ask for second opinions then he said "well they didn't make a mistake" I told him that we are all human and can made a mistake and that this was something I had to do before I could continue with any treatment.  Within 5 days, my pathology slides had been sent to and reviewed by Vanderbilt... The difference that they noted was Vanderbilt found DCIS Stage 0 but grade 2 and our local pathologist found DCIS grade 3..  So yes please always request a second opinion.  That cost me $300.00 and after I had the results I submitted it to my insurance and was able to recoup 80%...  Well worth the money IMO...  Best, Deirdre
