Had my first treatment today. It was kind of uncomfortable to lay still for 20 minutes (also had some images done for the RO to review before tx), but otherwise uneventful. When I was done I asked the techs about skin care, and was directed to the nurses. They gave me samples of aquaphor and miaderm. They weren't directing me to use them but said that I should use some type of lotion 3 times a day and to avoid anything with alcohol or fragrance. They also gave me a sheet of general information about the treatment.

I have a gratitude journal that I write in, and my most recent entry is about a co-worker who donated their parking place to me for the duration of the radiation treatments. I work at our community college, and parking is at a premium. I get to work early enough to park on the street, so to leave for any reason during the day and come back, chances are slim for finding anything. My co-worker's kindness relieved a LOT of stress, yay!

    One down, 33 to go.

I AM DONE, can I say that again, I AM DONE.  No more photons or electrons being zapped into me.  I brought the techs cookies my DS made for me last night since I was so tired.  Dinner out tonight.

Skin is looking a lot better with two weeks on the silver cream.  See the RO next month then adios amigos.

Treatment #11 today. Weird, but I have a red rash under my collar bone and in between (what used to be) my breasts. Not sure if this is the redness that I should have or if this is something different altogether.

The rash is a part of TX just means you skin is changing. Keep a close eye on for minor bumps that could lead to blisters. The redness on the collar bone is due to them radiating the lymph nodes since you had positive involvement.

CRAP  after phone calls back and forth between BS and RO today I had a minor meltdown.  The RO said the fluid needs to be drained to disperse the treatment correctly, so I guess I'll go with that on Monday.  This is going to screw up my timeline because he will need to do another CT after the draining to see if it comes back.  I asked if my boob would cave in or deflate.  He says no.  I would  just like to know how this b cup is hiding a cokecan's worth of fluid.  Can I stay on the Feb Rad board since I technically semi started this week.  What a crock.  I hate glitches in the flow.  My head hurts and I want to punch someone.   libraylil

Beacher  just fluid left from the lumpectomy.  Monday they will aspirate at the BS's office.  Apparently it is not uncommon...I am relaxing now and felt better.  Found 3 messages from my RO where he tried to call me before we connected this afternoon.  At least made me feel that he was human.  DH talked to me and I know this is not a big deal, I'm just whiney.  Drain it  Monday, next Tues CT and marking again so hopefully I'll be ready for the rad rumble in two weeks.

grannydukes  thanks.  I told the nurse today I am just tired of being the "happy cancer girl" so I felt that a meltdown was long overdue. libraylil

Well # 2 done today.  I took a pain/anxiety pill before I went and so I was in almost a lala land for the treatment.  Saw the RO and had my normal 20 questions, which he answered.  He thinks the green tea is ok as long as I keep it at my same levels.  One cup a.m. and one cup p.m. and ocassionaly one 16.9 oz bottle. He did say I should drink the decaf kine to avoid too much caffine.  He also said that I should at least cut back on the vitamin E. I currently take 1,000 IU, so I will cut back on that.  He said the creams I am using are the best ones and to keep using them at least 3x daily and more if I can manage that.  He siad to be sure and drink plenty of water and to watch my weight and try not to lose any more as that will change the positioning of the rad treatments.  Finally saw the Nurse Navigator and she was not much help, but at least I actually saw her.  I think I will just stick with getting any help I need from the RO's PA.  She has been great.  Well I am off to bed as I have fallen asleep twice trying to post this.

    Joy and blessings, Amy Jo

mjbmiller, so happy for you to be done.  I had #18 today and had my "doctor day".  In the last week I've gone from a small red area under my breast to a larger red stripe all around the radiated side of my body, like a bra-band reaction.  My nipple area is still red and I have a red patch starting under my armpit, but not even a hint of tan anywhere else in the treated area.  My doc brought his nurse in to consult; he thought it might be a yeast infection but she put her finger on the red part and it turned white, then red again, which apparently means it's not yeast.  So I'm supposed to take Advil every six hours to reduce the inflammation, and put Neosporin under my breast and cover it with gauze, then put on the other moisturizing agents. We'll see.

Today I also had my 11th treatment.I am just a little pink above the t/e but mostly tan.I  think I may have a little swelling in the area of the metal on the expander, I took some motrin, maybe that will help. Anyone else have this problem?

ok i got a problem girls and need your opinion!! i am on #20 tomrrow got 9 more to go! i have a big blister on the top of my breast exactly where my ps had to go back and fix cause the skin had turned black and died . i have an expander in so my skin is stretched to the max. after rads today i  had made appt with ps cause i knew my skin looked bad, he said "they are really frying you" and did not like the idea of them continuelly cooking this pus filled blister he wants me to see if they could cut back dosage or days he doesnot think my skin will be able to hanle it and will have to take the t/e out an then i do not know i blanked out!! dam it!!! evertthing that could go wrong has and now i have to make this decision,my surgeon just called which was nice have not talked to her for months and said she would try to figure this out but of course i have to finish rads i do not want cancer but my breast sounds like its going to be a mess,,,has ANYONE dealt with t/e's and blisters and skin just falling apart i think im going crazy

    beacher,

Do you have a metal area on your te that was used to expand you?

I am wondering if this area of trouble for you is because of the metal. I am only on #11 so I have not yet had a problem like yours.

I  am so sorry this is happening to you. I have asked my RO if this area could be a prob. and he tells me no, although I am not sure I believe him.

What are you using on your skin?

Beacher I so wish I could help you. Would it help if your PS and RO put there heads together to come up with a solution. Sounds like you need a break from rads, I know they can allow it for a short time.

I feel bad that I can't help - you have factors that I don't have.  I agree that the RO and BS need to talk before anything more happens....I don't think it should be your job to figure this out.  That is why they went to med school - if possible, put it back in their hands and don't do anything more until you feel confident they have come to a mutual recommendation that is in your best interest.  So, so sorry for your discomfort.  I do know we are not supposed to break blisters....I definitely wish I could be more helpful....

    Hugs and more hugs...

beacher  glitches like this in the process are stressful.  Hope they figure out and decide on what is causing this for you.  Trying to deal with 3 drs in 3 locations is not pretty. If even one has a God complex.  libraylil

beacher - I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. When my skin started blistering, my RO prescribed Silvadene which I used twice a day with Aquaphor.  Silvadene is an antibiotic cream and it really helped my blisters go away.  My skin and te were so tight during rads that I wanted to quit at the end and the PS took a small amount of fluid out to relieve the tightness.  They also put me on Keflex prophylactically for infection. Taking a break too would be good so your blisters can heal. Take care.

HI BHER, YOU S AND I SEEM TO BE THE ONLY ONES WITH T/E'S, U R OK NOW? MY PS THINKS IF THEY KEEP ZAPPING ME WITH THE BLISTER (BIG ON TIP OF MY BREAST WHERE THE 2 INCISIONS CAME TOGETHER) THAT THE SKIN WILL JUST NOT BE STRONG ENOOUG TO HOLD THE EXPANDER ,THEN ANOTHER SURGERY TO REMOVE IT WHICH WOULD TAKE FOREVER I QUESS THEY WOULD HAVE TO STOP RADIATING WAIT 6-9 MONTH FOR SKIN TO HEAL START RADS OVER,WAIT FOR THEM TO HEALS AGAIN6-9 MONTHS APPRX. THEN PUT EXPANDERS BACK WAIT FOR EXPANSION IF POSSIBLE THEN ONE LAST SURGERY FOR  THE FINAL SWITCH ... SOUNDS LIKE A FEW YEARS TO ME IM SOOOOOOOOOOO SAD :(

TO ALL YOU LADIES SO MANY NAMES I WANT TO THANK FOR YOUR REPLIES I KNOW ITS A TOUGH ONE HARD TO HELP BUT KNOWING YOU CARE HELPS ALOT!!!!!     THANKS YOU A MILLION THANKS AND PRAY FOR ALL OF YOU U ALL SOUND LIKE YOU ARE DOING SO GOOD JANUARY LADIES ,AND FEB LADIES ITS NOT AS COMPLICATED AS MINE AND IT WILL NOT BE BAD I PROMISE

I finished my 28 treatments in january, my radiologist suggested aquaphor, very messy  hated it. i got really red under my armpit, it hurt so bad, couldn't put my arm down. did some research on my own, doctors (in my opinion don't offer much)  I found emu oil....  look into it.  i loved it.  still use it today, not as often  but i have expanders in and want my skin to heal for good reconstruction.  my armpit was really raw, put emu oil on for a week as often as i could, a week later i was just pink.  i have only faint discoloration now.  the emu oil is all natural, absorbs very quickly.  i read nothing but good things , its good for other things too.  my doctor never heard of it (of course) unfortunately i found it after my skin was really burnt, i wonder if that could have been avoided all together.
