Fortune Cookies
I officially hate fortune cookies and I will never read one again, at least not at a party! Last night I went to this fabulous party of girlfriends where one of the nicest people I know is turning 50. There was a tray of fortune cookies there, and my girlfriends kept encouraging me to make sure I got one. Here's what mine said, seriously: "REMEMBER: Here today and gone tomorrow. Spend time now with the ones you love." Would you not be a little wigged out? Fortunately, I'm the queen of optimism and I was soon dancing on the table to Rick James (yes, Bugs, Superfreak of course) and forgetting that nasty little cookie. But I couldn't help but think that everyone else's was lighthearted and fun.....

How much does that suck! That would sure put me on a shitty mood. Hugs to you and I say we banish all fortune cookies! Or make up our own batch with cancer specific sayings like "Forever sleeping with NED" or "Kicking cancers ass, one cell at a time"....we could start a whole new industry:) ((((((hugs))))))

Oh, I hate it when stuff like that happens! Just remember, IT MEANS NOTHING!!
Not cancer related, but my Chinese Horoscope for the year (I'm a horse) was - "beware of infidelity". My husbands was - "a great year for romance". Uh-oh....
-
Double uggh!!!! $$$ Here today, gone tomorrow when you're having fun doing retail therapy!!! That's they only way that should be written...sorry that you had to get that NOT fortune cookie.....

Eeeeek! I would feel the same way! We all know it's just a stupid fortune cookie, but before our diagnoses - we would have just shirked it off, but it seems now we see everything as a freaking omen. I just wanted to mention that somewhere on this board there is another sister - about a year ago - wrote about her fortune cookie episode as well. Her's was just as bad. She and two friends went to a chinese restaurant - at the end of dinner each got a fortune cookie- they all opened them, and naturally, the sister with the cancer had no fortune in hers. You can well imagine what she felt like - whether it was just a factory produced fortune cookie or not. When the waiter came for the check, someone mentioned she had no fortune in her cookie, and the waiter, thinking he was being humerous, boldly stated "Oh, that means you have no future." With no cancer, we would probably just laugh it off and think he was just another jerk, but living with this beast and the fear we will always have regarding it - it was truly a demolishing statement.
Just wanted to let you know - you were not alone in the devastating fortune cookie stories. I am sorry it happened to you, as I would be in a freaking morbid depression over it with my apprehension over everything concerning this disease - but try your best to forget about it and tell them to skip the fortune cookies in the future. I don't even open mine anymore since I read the story I posted about.
I hope this unfortunate event fades real soon from your memory!

just a piece of paper..

omg - I got chinese with friends last week and said - Chinese fortune cookies make me nervous. they told me to lighten up and just add "in bed" to whatever fortune I got.
Usually that makes it much funnier however....
my fotune cookie was empty - now that freaked me out.

My 19 year old football/Lacrosse playing 6'2' son got one recently that just said, "You are Beautiful". We had a good laugh at that one at his expense.
We add "in bed" to the end of our fortune cookies and come up with some quite humorous fortunes, but on occasion there are those that just leave me wondering "what were they thinking".

Hilarious Kerry! These are great stories...I agree with you, Apple. I love you all!
-
Bobbie, I'm so impressed that you were dancing on tables! You are sucha hoochimamma!
Yes, just a piece of paper...and I always get the sucky fortune cookies. My friends will get the "you are in for the romance of your life" and I will get "you would have won the lottery yesterday if you would have played these numbers _ _ _" We do add the "in bed" .well, unless it needs to be G rated. It does add quite a bit of humor
Wow, Kerry...that calls for TWO dozen roses tomorrow from DH.

We add "in bed" to the cookies too........sometimes we open them without reading the paper and swap them around the table and them read them adding "in bed", making for a fun game.

So DC, Are you ready to hear that your 19 year old son is beautiful in bed?? or do you still secretly slip in once you hear the regular snores and whisper, You are my best baby when you are asleep!
-
hymil- AAAAAAAAAAAAArgh.......
He'll always be my baby.
-
Yep, DD is also 19 and gorgeous when she's asleep. But we don't need fortune cookies to tell us that! Where did the years go, eh?
