Hi ladies - in my quest for a healthier 2011, I've started taking supplements. I am taking a multivitamin called Nature's Way "Alive" Women's multi vitamin. It had the standard vitamins and minerals, plus iodine, which I hope naturally helps my untreated thyroid issue. It also has amino acids, cranberry for urinary tract, a hair/skin/nail blend of nutrients, flax, superfoods (veggie and fruit), super mushrooms, digestive enzymes, bioflavinoids and green food/spirolina blend.  So it pretty much covers the entire spectrum!  I have to say that I feel much better with higher energy!  I also had a friend tell me last week that my skin and eyes seemed "brighter" and that I was glowing, which was nice to hear. Just wanted to pass along this great supplement for your consideration!

I've also started taking modified citrus pectin daily, 1500 milligrams.  I've been doing some reading that it may slow tumor growth and also may aid in preventing melanoma. In addition to breast issues, I've had some suspicious growths removed - fair complection and enjoy the sun more than I should.  Not sure, but thought it was worth a try and have worked it into my daily regime. Does anyone know if this is a waste of time and money? Thanks!

carpediem, I've also read some compelling research on modified citris pectin, and I think I'd posted a link on the Natural Girls thread about it.  Just be sure the supplement you're using is made from a natural source -- not a synthetic version, which will be missing the co-nutrients that a natural source contains.

I live in sunny Southern California, where we have abundant citrus fruit available 'year round, so I probably won't add it as a supplement.  But I take a lot of individual supplements that cover many of the things addressed in the multiple complex you're using, including iodine (I use Iodoral), a mushroom extract (by Thorne), flax, etc. -- all of which I think are very important.     Deanna

Thanks so much for this reply, I haven't visited the thread in a while!   I bought the natural modified citrus pectin, figured it can't hurt!  I've been feeling so much better since I started these vitamins, so definitely worth it from an energy standpoint, and hopefully doing some behind-the-scenes good!

    Hi Ladies,

I am really surprised that there isnt this HUGE thread on this topic.  I really believe in supplements and vitamins.  I dont think we get all our nutrients by what we eat on a daily basis. Just my two cents! :)

nondairy, citrus pectin and other supplements are discussed in many other threads here.  This just happens to be a light one, perhaps partly due to where it was placed (in Recipes).  Check the Forum Index above; scroll down to the Alternatives and Complementary Medicine section, and look for threads like "Natural Girls."  There are many women on BCO who share your belief in the importance of supplements.    Deanna
