Ugh. Winter finally got to me.
I just moved to the country near the top of a mountain this year and my gosh, I am so, so, so sick of snow. But, it's only a few more weeks until March which is so pretty here in West Virginia. It does still snow but melts off quickly, and all the trees and bushes are covered in a beautiful light, ferny green that seems to almost be lit from inside, like trees in the fall on rainy days.
My rambling point is that it's only a few more weeks. But the sadness combined with the somewhat increasing fatigue as I enter the 5th month of heavy chemo are *definitely* playing off each other and limiting my good active hours when I can be cheering myself up, keeping occupied and productive doing winter projects or just talking with people on the phone and catching up.
This post just wore me out, lol. And, I work from home so have no officemates to toss small rubber band balls at my head if I start to nod off.
Anyone heard any good jokes lately?

Dear Pam, I am so sorry that you are filled with sadness right now, totally normal and know that this too shall pass. You have come to a wonderful board filled with loving, kind and compassionate women, all here ready to help with tips, conversation and sometimes jokes. I used to live in Pittsburgh, Pa, and we drove through WV many times, absolutely beautiful landscape and scenery. Hang in there, ladies from here will be along here soon to cheer you up. God bless you, Kathy

Any jokes I remembered I lost to chemo brain:) I know the feeling you're talking about, both the 5 month chemo feeling and the sooooo sick of snow feeling. Hugs from a sista in NY who is tired of grey, dirty, filthy snow and ice, ice everywhere. Spring will be here and chemo will be over and you will feel the sun on your face and smile:)

Hi Pam,
No good jokes but glad you r here .I used to not watch it thought it was stupid but i have found family guy make sme laugh alot. Not for everyone though. It has been a cold winter i live on the coast of north carolina and we have had alot of snow this year
What kind of work do you do?
-
Pam,
I think winter's gotten to us all. We're going to be CUCKOO when spring comes. My family is all down in Charleston/Clendenin/Scott Depot, so I'm looking forward to getting down there when it gets warm.
Hang in there!
Bobbie

Pam, I live on top a mtn. too and found it held mixed blessings through treatment.
The view is always spectacular and we have plenty of sunshine though temps. are miserable. Our pace has slowed considerably, mostly to match my energy level. I do a thing or two and then sit by a window to watch the birds at the feeder and the shadows change. I am grateful that my pace seems to match nature's so I don't feel so inadequate or incompetent as I might living in a busier community.
On the other hand, I too am sick of snow/ice/freezing winds. I am almost hypervigilant watching for changes that signal spring. I'm thinking the low grade feelings of inertia/depression in winter are mirror images to the feelings of inertia and depression I've often felt in the past 1.5 yrs....as in, when is this ever going to end??? I admit I've wavered under the double dose this winter.
No new jokes here but I crack up every single time I watch this....

I love the idea of little rubber band balls and throwing them at each other! Maybe I'll go work in an office just for the fun of it! Also love snow and mountains but only for a short time when I don't have to go out for long or get to the shops or do the school run. Right now or snow is gone and its rain rain rain and high winds. But the snowdrops are peeping through, spring is on its way. I know DD told me a really bad joke recently about a penguin but darned if i can remember it. Did you see the childrens film Happy Feet a few years back. That really made me smile.
-
Oops, link didn't work. How do you post a youtube link here? This is only about 30 secs. and so funny to me.
Perfect, Apple!
-
copy paste - with the mouse.
super easy.
-
O.K. Pam, here is a really stupid joke, but it did make me chuckle:Why did the chef get arrested. He was beating an egg. Corny, right????? Hopefully, just thinking about the crazy lady who sent this to you will make you laugh!!!! Stay warm, Kathy
-
Pam- I sure know how you feel about this looooooong winter. We've had over 60 inches of snow here in NYC and I am over it! I can never remember jokes, but this silly video of a pug singing the batman theme got me laughing till tears came down. My mom had a pug who sounded just like this. Hang in there, Spring is coming. Sorry, my linky thing won't work, you will have to copy and paste.

I don't have a joke, but did see a sweet comic last week - it was Family Circus.
The little boy was looking at the calendar and said to his mom, "I am so glad February is a short month, it means summer will get here faster".
-
Well thank you so much, each and every one of you, I do feel so much better and I really appreciate you all!
-
Kathy, that was very sweet - and even now, it is absolutely beautiful up here on the mountain. But chemo can help make you cold-intolerant!
Jenn, that's so true - now the whole "February is the shortest month" makes sense.
hymil Happy Feet was great! Definitely made me smile, it will be on my short list of films because my girls haven't seen it yet!
Thanks Spunky! I have lots of family in Walton, do you know it?
Apple, that one looks like it'd make you take a nap rather than wake you up, hahah! But excellent form, thanks!
lol Kindergarten my girls will probably literally roll on the floor laughing over that! Aren't 6 and 7 yr olds cool?
Thank you for the encouragement Sherri! Yes, I just need to pass the time away. Actually could there be a better time to be fatigued? I'm not missing much.
Designer and Littletower, I can't imagine that much snow in the city. That would start as the most beautiful sight but wow, the slush factor would be something. Bet you can hardly walk on some sidewalks for slush spray. Thank you for the video Designer, will watch it this morn!!
R-Dizz, I love Family Guy! That is a great suggestion, I need to dig through Netflix and see what comedies they're streaming..there are lots of shows that make me laugh every time. And the show "Hoarders" - whooo, that's a great show to watch if you need motivation to clean and organize and declutter.
I am a hospital management consultant. My company gets financial reports, clinical reports (stuff like number of a certain type of operation and the results of them), quality reports - reports of how a hospital is performing on all levels. So, I review reports for problems, figure out what the problem is, and get that hospital together with other hospitals around the country that handle that issue successfully. They share their ideas, all on phone and internet. So, I can and have done it from the couch in my bathrobe which as you can imagine is the one of the hugest blessings to me right now.
-
LOL October that was great, thanks!!

OK, I have been given a joke for you, it comes from my minister Tim, at least Sue blames him for it, and she told it me again just before I came home so I could remember it. . Who knows where a joke comes from originally? Over 50 years ago, the greatest ever sci-fi writer Isaac Asimov speculated in "Jokester (1956)" that they are a way of using us all in a huge extraterrestrial psychological experiment. Anyway, if anyone made this up, I thank them deeply. It made me laugh and I hope it cheers you too.
So this guy has a swimming pool. He is rich. He is so rich that he doesn't swim in it, he keeps a school of pirhanhas. (Now i apologise, but once only, that I can't spell them. Sorry) He gives loads of parties, as befits a rich man with a large pool, and he always challenges the guests that if anyone can swim a length of his pool, he will offer that person either half of his huge fortune, or the hand of his daugheter in marriage. (Old-fashioned, isn't he). Can you believe nobody takes him up on the offer although he is very rich and the daughter is very lovely, because there are a lot of those unspellable man-eating fish in the pool, and they look mean, and they look hungry. So he's giving a party one day, and he throws out the usual challenge, Anyone ready to swim in my pool? Meet my lovely daughter, share my lovely fortune... Usual silence, but then, SPLASH! a brave soul sets a new personal best, and emerges a few long nailbiting seconds later very breathless, very wet but unscathed at the other end. Well done, my fine fellow! congratulates the host exuberantly, having first checked it is in fact a fellow, And as you are the first and the only one man enough to brave my little submerged army, would you like half of my vast fortune as I have offered, or would you prefer the honour of becoming my son-in-law? Neither, says the chap, still dripping and gasping from the cold and the adrenalin, I want the phone number of the guy that pushed me in!
. edit to add, i have found a credit or at least a history for that joke. Auntie google found me this source: http://familyvolley.blogspot.com/2010/11/sharks-piranhas-and-alligators.html

Pam, this winter has been tough on anyone NOT dealing with chemo, so I truly understand your mood. It's been rough for my & DH as I received a Dx of BC on Jan 6 and today find out I have bone mets. I live in a small town on the Ohio river and it borders WV. I'm going to a cancer center at a hosital in Pittsbugh, an hour's drive away. Had so many tests the past month, and bad weather to drive thru to get to most of them. Yes, I love the Ohio Valley, but this year's winter is one of my worst.
I'm a fan of "30 Rock" and "Glee". I also try to read upbeat stuff; just finished the book "God Never Blinks" and thought it was good--author is a BC survivor, and I don't think I knew that when I got the book from the library.
If any funny jokes come my way, I'll pass them along!

Dear The DivineMrsM, So sorry you have to join this sisterhood, but you will find many wonderful women here who will support and comfort you. I did my treatment at Magee Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh. We are all here to help you with your journey. You will get through this and along the way, let's share some funny jokes. God bless you, prayers are coming your way to get through this winter. God bless you, Kathy

Story with tip to keep you healthy this season:
Miss Beatrice,
The church organist,
Was in her eighties
And had never been married.
She was admired for her sweetness
And kindness to all.
One afternoon the pastor
Came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room.
She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.
As he sat facing her old Hammond organ,
The young minister
Noticed a
cute glass bowl
Sitting on top of it.
The bowl was filled
With water,
And in the water
Floated, of all things, a condom!
When she returned
With tea and scones,
They began to chat.
The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity
About the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist.
'Miss Beatrice', he said,
'I wonder if you would tell me about this?'
Pointing to the bowl.
'Oh, yes,' she replied,
'Isn't it wonderful?
I was walking through
The Park a few months ago
And I found this little package
On the ground.
The directions said
To place it on the organ,
Keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease.
Do you know
I haven't had the flu
All winter.'

So so sorry, MrsM, that bites. No wonder you gravitated toward this post. You will feel much better when you get a plan going, it's so hard when you don't know what you're going to do yet. ((Hugs))

If it's spaghetti, you can squeeze and shape into pasta ball (don't know how well it will bounce).
If they are bands, then you got me.
