Welcome June!
Been sooo busy. Between working, walking and scholarship stuff (for my DD so I can retire this year) I have not been on much.
I have been walking my little butt off. Today I did 7 miles and will do the same for the next two days. I am planning a Super Bowl party and want to eat whatever I want to. I am being pro-active.
It has been cold her in Vegas this week, but not as bad as the rest of the country. This weekend is supposed to be beautiful!!! Looking forward to a nice bike ride this weekend.
Enjoy the weekend everyone!!! Stay dry and warm.

June,
My area in NC doesn't see much snow, but it is getting COLDER and COLDER every year. UGH
I think I need to move to the Caribbean, so it will always be 85 degrees. I live in South Eastern North Carolina, near the beach.
dianenv
You go girl! It is TOO COLD for me to go walking or running outside, so I am chained to that Terrible Torture Elliptical Machine!
Have a great weekend, girls!

Kari, hugs, so sorry about your friend. Glad you had a chance to hug that new grandbaby. Precious times.
Work definitely interfered with work outs the last few days. DH getting that disapproving look he gets when that happens. With a lot of help from him I did manage to maintain good and healthy eating through the few days, because if that hadn't happened I shudder to think how I'd feel today. This weekend will be better. So, as you guys can tell I'm not closer to making any decisions about work. I did carve out some days off and put them on my calendar. Now I just have to stick to it
-
The boss lady has finally given me a set schedule so every other week it will be the same. Days and then nights. Finally after 6 years!!
Kari so sorry to hear of your friend. Cancer does suck!! It makes you appreciate things in a different way though. Life is short and should be enjoyed everyday. DANCE!!
We have the rain again today. Third day of it. At least it isn't snow like last week. Suppose to be in the 50's for Sunday and sunny (whatever that is!). And another batch coming through next week. Harley it is bound to get warmer soon. Think of sun, beach, white sand and warm weather. Next we will be complaining it is so hot like last year.
Everyone have a great weekend - I'm working and thinking of ya. Chocolate Festival is this weekend!! YUUMMM!
-
Joy,
I am SO SICK of this RAIN! The only thing good about rain is... you don't have to SHOVEL rain!!
We are going to a chili cookoff. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Harley
-
Chili cookoff and chocolate festival....I WANT IN!!!
-
June,
It wasn't very much.... just a few samples of chili... some were really WEIRD... like some TUNA and seafood chilis... UGH....

Okay feeling like such a slacker as I did nothing in exercise form other than shovel out all weekend......yes the snow ended days ago, but my husband cleaned the roof so it wouldn't collapse as so many roofs were in this area and I was worried about the basement flooding as there is so much snow against the house. I literally spent my afternoon shoveling us out and I am pooped......yes I know this is supposed to be good exercises, but I would have rather done some weights or walking.....
Not watching the big game like most of you probably are.....I grew up with 7 brothers and I have no desire for Football as I had no choice when I was younger and that was all I grew up with......I do like other sports, just not Football.......Happy Sunday ladies!
-
THE SUN CAME OUT TODAY!!! Yay!! I had really missed it!
I did the weights Friday. took Saturday off (had to attend a memorial service, sad, but good too). Today I did 45 o the elliptical and 30 minutes weights in the gym!!
Went to a superbowl party and ate stuff I normally do not eat. It was good for a change! ha! Back to the regular diet tomorrow!!
-
June
I HATE FOOTBALL! My brother watched it continuously, when I was younger...BUT, now my hubby watches it 24/7... there is ALWAYS some sport on tv... UGH
We went to a friends house to watch... I brought my SCRABBLE game. We played one game and watched SOME commercials. Before I knew it, we were headed home!
Hope everyone has a great week!

Spring
YAY! I really missed the SUN, too! I am SO GLAD it was SUNNY today!!
My spirits are so much better when I have SUNSHINE!!

Oh my goodness, where has the winter gone? Oh yeah..out the window with my brain.
I've been away from the boards since the end of Nov and just coming back. I'm about to have the 5th of 6 chemo rounds and can't say it has been the easiest. Though symptom wise I've had a good ride, I've had to deal with a respiratory infection that lead to a deep seated sinus infection. I finally got a handle on it in january and it is now clear.
That said I can tell ya that chemo and a respiratory bug take more than your motivation away. Add to that heavy snow fall and I was pretty much house bound all winter thus far.
I'm finally feeling better and getting moving. I cna't beleive how un-conditioned I've become. My core strength is horrible. Trying to get my body back moving is going slow, like kneading frozen bread dough. I started with the P90X stretch and did the first 10 minutes. it felt good and the next day i found that I was albe to do the whole hour. wow my body thanked me. but that is about it...stretching.
My fav exercise is weights, this is one reason i love the P90X program. i can do it home and to be honest I feel like I have developed a bit of agoraphobia! I just want to stay cocooned until spring.
Thanks for all the feedback from my first post. I truly appreciated coming back and reading it. BCO truly is a place of support.
Patti B.

PitPat that loss of muscle is one of the worst things during chemo.
Spring, we all need a break from the routine sometimes.
Did 10 min of the backwards elliptical thing, light weights then finished off with incline walking on the treadmill, felt great. Haven't decided today between yoga or treadmill
The commercials were great, loved the Chrysler spot highlighting Detroit as the Motor City.
-
My fav commercial was Doritoes, the one where he licked the other guy's finger. soo gross, but funny.
I walked a bunch this weekend and biked yesterday. I did that so I could eat all the stuff I wanted to duing the game.
Happy Monday everyone!
-
I just finished 30 minutes on that TORTURE machine!! I can't wait til SPRING!
Harley

Don't shoot me everyone, but we had a gorgeous weekend and broke record highs! We walked all weekend!! My legs were so sore, yesterday I met my coworker and her dog and we hit a trail I've never been on, it was cool (except for the mud parts), 2 hours and 8 min. I was exhausted and sweaty!
Got a new 'do'...a short bob, and colored my hair darker...felt fresh for spring coming! ha!!
Even after being exhausted, I managed to get up during half time and dance and jump around, made me smile!! (I was by myself, heehee)
Meeting an old neighbor pal today for lunch, I'm just being little miss social this week! heehee....In a GREAT mood.
Oh so I got the results of my bone density scan, my onc emailed me (and I'm already taking calcium and vitamin D):
Dear Kari, You do have some loss of calcium from your bone. You have "osteopenia" of the spine. You should be taking calcium and vitamin D. We can talk about it in more detail at your next appointment. Julie.
-
Kari
Can't wait to see a pic of your new 'do'... sounds so CUTE!
-
Harley, I am with you. I love the sun shine and warmer weather! Girl, it's coming back! We're over the hump now! It was light out until 6PM the other night!
PitPat, good for you!! I also did exercises and walked a lot during chemo and rads. I think it really helped me. I saw special exercise therapists who specialized in cancer patients. There is all that reserach now to show that you should not just sink into the sofa until you nearly dissappear during chemo!! It was great. Once you are done, you will get stronger!!
Kari, I have osteopenia too. After taking 5K vit D for a long time (and only getting into the mid 50s for Vit D on my blood tests) I moved up to 10K. I can't wait to see if this works. ha. Also, your doc did not mention this, but WEIGHT TRAINING is really good for our bones!! I will have my next density scan in the spring. I wonder if any of this will matter?? ha!! We'll see I guess.
So today I did my 30 minute weight routine. Work will run later tonight than normal, so I went at 3PM, it was great! Glad to have it out of the way....
I am in some program at work that pays you to exercise. I get 150 dollars if I can keep my routine for 10 weeks!! I am half way there !!! What should I do with the money?? he he. Buy new sneakers??
-
There was a bright ball in the sky on Sunday. Beautiful but the rain has returned today and I have the 2 puppies visiting.
Kari - I was told to take Vit D and calcium, Then they decided that Caltrate was better and then the calcium level went over the top because of the arimidex. There is no happy medium with this medication. So now I take one caltrate and no calcium or D.
We just have to get through this week and then they say it will warm up. Yeah right!!! Getting lighter in the morning and longer in the afternoon. I start night shift on Thursday for 5 nights. At least I will just be flipping shifts with two days off in between. I might be able to handle that.
Keep moving everyone
-
well, it's SUNNY today! YAY!
HURRY UP SPRING, HURRY UP SPRING!!
Harley
-
Good for you Harley......no sun here as we had snow again, only a few inches but enough to clear away the drive and car........
Springitme you seem to kick butt with you workouts, good for you!!!!
I did 2 hours at the gym yesterday and that included 1 hour of weights.....sore today but did manage t get on the treadmill this morning and muster through 30 minutes.......I cannot wait for Spring or till we change the clocks and it is bright for my early morning walks.......I miss that!
Sobx I take a Caltrate and a multi vitamin, I am hoping that is plenty. Not sure why I am always tired I am hoping it is just the weather.....
-
June,
It could be the weather. I have been very tired, but we had a solid week of clouds and rain.
Have you had your thyroid checked? I have Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism... under active thyroid, and it makes you VERY TIRED.... might wanna get checked.
Hope everyone has a great day!Harley
-
June, I second Harley's suggestion that you get your thyroid checked, as well as maybe a general blood panel. Our tx can really mess up our blood counts for awhile. Also, a supplement or two seems fairly negligible after a bc dx. I had met with an integrative doctor who I thought would probably cut back on the dozen or so supplements I was taking (including Iodoral for thyroid), and she actually added a couple! There are some excellent books out there if you want to explore the subject further -- especially if you're always feeling tired. One I highly recommend is, Anti-Cancer, A New Way of Life, by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
I walked a bit over 3 miles this a.m. with just minimal knee discomfort. It took me an hour, which is way slower than my previous pace, but at least it's an hour of moving. I resigned my gym membership recently because the crowded atmosphere just wasn't for me. So I've promised myself that I will dust off and start using our HealthRider and elliptical torture machine this week.
Stay warm everyone. I've heard there's a new cold front on the way. Deanna
-
Did a weight workout last night and 100 jumping jacks!! It felt GREAT! but muscles were crying a bit afterward! My calves are the only thing sore today!! YAY! After a bunch of googling Osteopenia, I will stick with the weight bearing routines.
Met my DD, SIL and my beautiful grandbaby girl. She had a checkup and is 9 lbs 1 oz, her and her mama look healthy!! LOVE them!!!!!!!!!!
I've been making some great smoothies each morning and have been so refreshed and awake...June, maybe you could try that too, of course after getting your blood panels checked!
Deanna, good for you ditching your membership if its not for you, and for digging out the torture machine, heehee! Good luck with your knee recovery as well.
Spring, you ROCK as usual
Joy, nice to have a consistent schedule for a week!
Keep on keeping on!
-
Beautiful sunny day. I put the dogs out to play for a long time today. Just wish the ground will dry so I can use the septic normally again. Like wash!!! Got two nice walks in with my fav Dd. Expecting snow on Thursday. yugh!! Yoga on Wednesday.
Deanna hope your knee is feeling better. Take it easy though.
Kari - hugs to your little one.
-
Well girls...I'm moving...my body that is.
I have moved more this week than in the last 4 months. Taking my pre-chemo decadron was helpful as I really could not sit still. I did about 10 minutes of cardio and then moved around doing laundry (washing, drying folding and putting away!) I stripped both my son's beds and hand vacuumed three rooms (the power brush belt was broken and in the car...hubby had the car). I used this as my hamstring stretch as well as a cardio! I also shoveled the walkway. I helped my 7 year old twins tidy there room (more putting clothes away!) and making thier bed. I topped it off with making 2 dozen banana muffins.
It seems a lot, but if I wasn't busy...I'd just vibrate from the decadron and take it out on my husband when he got home (He has been pre-warned that I took my first dose this morning, of which he told me he warned the kids of this too...lol)
kfinn...congrats on the new family member. Good to know they are all doing well.
-
It seems to me everyone is ready for SPRING!!!! We had such windy weather today, but I still did walk. I just love putting my headphones on and listening to my favorite radio station. No, I do not know how to work an IPod yet, maybe one day.
Kari that is so great you get to see the grandbaby a lot. I know my kids are so close to their grandparents since they live in the same town.
Still unsure where DD is going next year. The acceptance letters and $ are coming in daily. I so hopes she picks the best fit. We have her very last
basketball game on Thursday. It is so hard to sit through the lopsided scores. She did write the most beautiful essay on her biggest obstacle. She wrote about my fight with BC and how it impacted her. I cried. We have become so close this past year. I will be sorry when she spreads her wings next year.
Have to go cook now (of course it is healthy). Happy Tuesday everyone!!!
-
The cold air is coming back in. Even the ocean looked cold today. Walked Dd and have one more time to go out with her. Went to Yoga and it was nice right after the chiropractor.Going to a b'ball game tonight for Spencer (10 year old). Then I start nights on Thursday right after the snow comes through. Have a great evening everyone.
-
Deanna,
Is that a really good book? Is it a THICK book? Does it have lots of medical terms? Just asking, cause I am always looking for another perspective on healthy living after breast cancer.
I will have to look into it. I wonder if it's available on KINDLE...Harley
-
Oh Kindle what I wouldn't do to have one of those......
Dianenv don't feel so bad about not owning an IPOD...My daughter has the Ipod touch while I have the clip on shuffle.....When I walk I usually use her Ipod as the music is very upbeat and it keeps me motivated.....
Did my 30 on the treadmill this morning and hoping to do some weights later on tonight.....have a wonderful evening ladies!
