No Shoulder Pain but Doctor Wants it Checked

After getting a CT and bone scan earlier this week, I was told there were small areas on my right shoulder and my left hip the doctor wanted further testing on.  I'm scheduled for a PET scan next Wednesday.  My left hip has mild pain that I always attributed to arthritis, and I've never lost sleep over any pain associated with it.  I only take Tylenol for pain as I'm allergic to aspirin & ibuprofen, and Tylenol is apparently all it takes to ease any discomfort.  There's been no gradual increase in pain.  Plus just two weeks ago I fell down on my left butt check rather hard (tripped over a little preschooler at work-nothing happened to the child).

My right shoulder has absolutely no pain.  If it were bone mets, would I feel something?  

Of course, I'm just trying to talk myself in to thinking the PET scan will not show up anything serious.

    It sounds like your onc is just being cautious.  I know its stressful for you, but they do feel it is necessary to check out all the little blips on the tests simply because you do have cancer.  If you look back  at the concerned thread you'll see that Coolbreeze went through something similar last month.

     When looking at her bone scans for shoulder pain (not cancer related) they noticed a small spot further down the arm.  Further testing was ordered, it was found not to be cancer related.

    Hang in there DivineMrsM- I too believe he's just being overly cautious, which is a good thing for him to be.  I too feel it will be nothing, and don't forget any old injury shows up and they want to know for sure what it is since all these tests will be used in the future for your baseline tests.  And should it turn out to be (which I don't think it will) cancer, you certainly want to have the correct treatment right from the start.  Keep us posted and try not to put the cart before the horse.  Which is something I always do too - seems to come with the diagnose I think.  I am almost two years since diagnose, but the fear of every ache or pain is still with me.  Sending all good thoughts your way.

    I just want to say that I know you must be afraid, and I wish it weren't so.  I hope all your testing/scanning goes well and they find it's nothing but plain old arthritis, which it probably is.  I'll be thinking of you Wednesday.  Hopefully you will get the results quickly so you can stop thinking about this!  Hugs and more hugs.  G.

    Thanks for the pep talk, girls, it really warms my heart.  Hope, you're in my prayers about your tests, and the rest of you girls are, too, because.......hey, you know why!

    Girls, today I received a Dx of bone mets.  I hear it is treatable but not necessarily curable.  I have been reading some uplifting stories on the Stage IV forum.  Funny thing is, I do not feel sick.  I will start chemo next Wed.

    Divine:  $hit!  I am so very sorry to hear that.  I thought for sure it would be nothing, or perhaps arthritis.  But don't lose hope - there's a gal on the Stage IV thread that posts every January (or February?) every year, and this year is her 18th year with bone mets.  You too can do this.  Will be pushing for you all the way.  I wish you all the best.

    Not the news we wanted to hear.  Nothing's fair about this **** BC.  I'm glad you are feeling fine.  It's just hard to grasp that we can feel good and yet need treatment. Bone mets is indeed treatable.  What chemo will you be getting next Wednesday?  Please take care of yourself.  We are holding you in our thoughts.  Warm, loving hugs!  G.
