Miami Half marathon
I'm back! Ran half marathon this weekend in miami - beat my best time and reached my totally unrealistic goal time of 2:00.
I had a great trip with my daughter - lots of wonderful memories. Got to spend time with my florida family, take in some warm weather, achieve an unrealistic goal and LIVE LIFE!
Here is my most current blog post :-)

Fast times and tight turns in Miami
January 31, 2011 at 5:21 pm by Mary Katherine Ibbetson
I got an email from Mike LaChapelle this morning congratulating me on almost breaking 2:00 in the Miami Half Marathon this weekend (Thanks for thinking of me, Mike!) My official chip time was 2:01:02 although my Garmin showed 1:59... See???
Yeah, I know, I know....course is measured on tightest turns and the "official time" is the "OFFICIAL TIME" and my completely unrealistic, not enough training goal of 2:00 was ridiculous but I am THRILLED with either time since my half marathon PR I beat was 2:09:16 on Jan 1st, 2011 (though, 1:59:59 is cooler to say and actually considered sub 2:00).
I got a couple of runs in while in Ft. Lauderdale before the Half in Miami - views were great and the weather was great (cool for Florida ).
Was able to meet up and run with a fellow Albany runner, Paul Loomis. It was nice to have a running buddy in the HUGE (21,000 runners) crowd!
It was a great race, beautiful course, perfect weather and probably one of the hardest I have ever run since I had to keep a fairly uncomfortable pace (for me) going for that long of a distance. My goal was to try to find the 2:00 pace group and stick with them as long as I could. Well - I saw the 2:00 pace group for about a half mile. I got stuck in the first bottleneck going over the bridge so my first mile was about 9:20 pace. The next 5-6 were below 9:00 and according to Garmin my overall pace was going down with each mile but I never saw that dude again. Friends at the finish line said he came in at about 1:55. Hurumphf! So I paced myself and kept my eye on my overall time and refused to let myself back off when it really started to sting. I couldn't talk very much at that pace but it was great having Paul near by for support.
OK - next goal...OFFICIAL time under 2:00 hmmm...maybe a training plan will help with that.
What's next!?

I believe your time, Mary. Major congrats.
I am planning out my 2011 events as I write this. Want to do the Hog Loppet, but may bag it if I can't train. My alternative plan is three days in the Methow Valley.
I am so thrilled for you and proud to know you. WAY TO GO!!!!! - Claire

Mary- Awesome. I'm in for a half marathon down the road. Need some warm weather and clear sidewalks though to get back into the swing. Tonight I might dream of a 2 hour time, but to actually do it I am so impressed with you. My last half marathon was two kids and BC ago. You're success has just gotten me online looking for something to train for.
Wow...what else to say...Wow.

Mary,
I follow your posts and except for the "winter blues", you seem to manage to remain upbeat and positive and that is what I strive for everyday. I am hopeful that I would be able to lessen, if not eliminate, those days when I think that the beast is back because of minor aches and pain or bump or bruise or because the MRI tech said good luck to me (most people would probably say thank you and forget about it, but not me, I would hold my breath until the results are out, then say to myself "oh, the tech probably says good luck to everyone"). I also long for shopping trips when I don't pause and ask myself if I am going to be here long enough to wear the clothes out. Sorry, I digress. Your posts and those of the other wonderful ladies on this board have helped me tremendously so I thank all of you for being here. Take care.
