Time to walk the walk
Ive posted a few times about how I've chosen to be monitored closley for my LCIS, well, Wednesday is MRI time again, that is if I can get into NYC during the predicted rain/ice/snow storm.I'm anxious.I try not to think about anything related to breasts in between exams but now it's time.If any of you have a few unused good thoughts, I'd appreciate them.

Don't beat yourself up over the anxiety. To me it says that you aren't complacent over your risk for BC (NO WOMAN SHOULD BE!).
BC is scary. Any cancer is scary. But you are being proactive. You care enough about yourself not to fall thru the cracks.
Look at yourself in the mirror and go "Yep, Im feeling anxious, and that is ok. I'll get my MRI done. I'm doing all that I can to take care of myself. That is a very good thing, even if one of the side-effects of that is being anxious for a while"
Then take a few deep breathes. Don't expect the anxiety to go away. Just accept it. It's very normal, very human.
I too live in the North East. Hope you can get in on Weds as well. I had to postpone my biopsy twice in this month because of weather. Finally got it done this past Friday. Right now I am on "waiting by the phone" duty for results.
God Bless DocBabs. Things most likely will be ok.

DocBabs, sending you prayers and good thoughts for your MRI on Wednesday. Let's hope you can get into the city and out without trouble. Do you have someone to go with you? If not, I'll' be with you in spirit, please let me know the time and keep me posted. You have sisters here who care and completely understand your anxiety. You are normal, you are proactive, you are courageous!

Hi DocBabs, I start to stress every time it's a relook, which is every 6 months for most of us out here, I would guess? The way I look at it - it is what it is. Nothing you can do about it (or the weather). I try to remember that stress is bad for our bodies and if something is "cooking" maybe it is not a good thing. So have a glass of wine, cup of tea, hot shower, bath, whatever relaxes you and take a deep breath.
I've been waiting for my appt for over a month now, it's been canceled 3 times for weather and doctor unavailability. I am trying to stay patient and calm, exercise, eat and sleep well. It's hard, because I am a worrier by nature and like everyone else out here, a million people depend on me for stuff. So I try to stay busy, too. Hugs to you, and hope you can get to the appt and all goes well!

DocBabs----did you have to have a pre MRI blood test? I have to have a yearly breast MRI (coming up in March) and it requires a blood test within 30 days. It checks the kidney function, because of the gadolinium used for contrast dye. This year they have me scheduled for the week before, which is smart because of the uncertainty of the weather---last year I scheduled it about 3 weeks before and fortunately nothing got cancelled due to the weather. So keep in mind, they can probably reschedule an MRI, but it still has to be done within 30 days of the blood test (or they have to repeat the blood work.) It takes several days for the bloodwork to come back. I've decided it is what it is and I cannot change it by worry, so I try not to waste too much energy on worrying. Praying you get good benign results soon.

Thanks to all.I've said all the things that you've said to me to others but it's reassuring to have them come back at you.
AWB, no blood test pre-MRI.I have no kidney issues.
Pretty sloppy roads here in NJ, keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow.I generally drive in alone but my husband works at NYU so he's around if I need him.
Thanks again!

Well, despite all the freezing rain and slush i managed to make it into NYC yesterday and had my MRI. Radiologist emailed me this am..........NEGATIVE...Yeah for another year!!
-
DocBabs---I have no kidney issues whatsoever; they tell me every year that the blood test is required by NY state when using gadolinium. I wonder why you didn't have to have it? (since you had the MRI in NYC). Apparently, gadolinium can cause nephrotic syndrome, so they want to check your creatine levels within 30 days prior to MRI. (mine are always fine). Congrats on the great news!!!!! Now go out and do something nice for youself!!!

I'm in California and they don't make you take a test prior to MRI. I did one myself though, I asked for it, when I read about the issues. Though I have no kidney probs I wanted to be very sure! However, I think the gadolinium complication is very rare, usually people with well known kidney dysfunction.

CONGRATS DocBabs!!
ENJOY the year.
(When I had my MRI I didnt have a blood test either. Are there other contrast dyes perhaps that are used? )
-
While not a law, blood test is done at NYU prior to MRI only if you have diabetes, kidney issues or hypertension. And yes it's for up to 6 weeks prior to the MRI
-
Yay!! Have a great year! :-)

Hey, I think we all have "scanxiety" Perfectly normal. Seems no amount of poking and prodding I've been through makes me get all that used to it. Good luck on your MRI. Let us know how it goes.
