Congratulations Tanasha! I love Kennedy's name. All the best to you and your family!
Things have been pretty quite here. Getting ready to go to Orlando on the 13th for 2 weeks and we can't wait! It will be our first vacation since diagnoses and we are so looking forward to it.
SuperBowl Sunday is creeping up? Are there many Superbowl widows out there? Not me! I love watching the Superbowl, but mainly for the commercials and not the game!
Have a great day everyone!!
-
I'm going to a Superbowl Party sunday- held annually by some friends of ours. I'm really looking forward to it, not so much because I care about the game. I'm like Kim, I like the commercials the most, tho I do appreciate a good suspenseful high stakes game regardless of who's playing.I'm looking forward to seeing a bunch of friends, we haven't gotten out much in the last few months , so it will be good to see everyone. I might have to leave early in order to get to sleep to get up early and drive 3.5 hours the next morning to go start my new job. It's just 3-4 weeks of good paying work. I spend a few days training in the office, then go out in the field in southern OK doing E911 address mapping. It has the potential to turn into a full time job if the company gets more contracts. I'd be away from home a lot, but I've done work like this before and I like it.
-
Hi,
Kim..enjoy your vacation in Orlando..
Dayla...Hope all works out well with your job. We are all rooting for you ..
I too watch the SuperBowl but mainly to keep my husband company. No party to go to this year.
Went into NYC today and had lunch at the Plaza with my DH and another couple. Restaurant week in NYC. The area brought back memories of last spring when a group of us came to NYC. What a fun time we all had.
Hugs,
Francine

Chris - that picture is phonomenal. Congrats again!!!
6 month check-up yesterday - Its all good - next onc visit - 6months - Yeah!!
-
Yay Patti! Great to hear! I too just "graduated" to six month oncology check up and I like it! Don't have to go back and forth there anymore, it gets depressing after a while.
Dayla - Good Luck with the job! I have my fingers crossed for you!
Have a great weekend all!!
-
Congrats Patti!! I am looking forward to graduating to 6 month checkups!
Kim...Orlando sounds....."Magical"!! Have a great time.
Dayla- I hope the full-time status turns into a great opportunity for you!
Francine- They want to know the sex...not until next ultrasound at 5 months. Between Steve and I, we have 2 nieces out of 14 nephews. I'm thinking this might be the generation of girls! I do pray that my son gets a son, too. There is nothing like raising boys!!
Enjoy the superbowl everyone. I will be spending it at church with our youth groups...I'm sure little football watching will be going on there as well...lol
Hugs all around!
Chris

Hi All,
Kim - Have fun in Orlando. I went last year in Oct. If you get the chance, go the Cirque Del Soleil show. It's fantastic! Have fun!
Chris - Very happy to hear the news about your son's upcoming new baby. I hope it's a boy as well given there are so many girls.. wow!
Patty - Yay! Another sign for the road to recovery, less and less Dr. appts.. Mine are about every 4 months right now. Congrats!
Alyad - Congrats on the job and I hope you're able to extend to full time. It's wonderful when you're doing something you really like.
Tanasha - So happy to hear the updates about the baby. Great news!
Well, my house is FINALLY up for sale. I hope it goes fast (yeah right...) The house in my neighborhood are up for sale for a LONG time right now. But there's always hope!!!

BethR: We want a GIRL...we have lots of boys in this family!!!
-
Chris - so sorry lol.. Then best wishes for a girl!!!
Francine - I'm just looking for something a little bigger than my town house. I've been looking at some nice ranch homes not far from where I live now. But at the same time, I've also been thinking about a condo. The downside to that is I love grilling in the Summer..
Have a great day all! Enjoy the Superbowl if you're watching it! Go Steelers!! But only because the Eagles aren't there... (smile)
Beth

Chris,
Ran into a women at the supermarket today. She had three boys who went to school with my son. She always said that she never tried for a fourth as she knew it would be another boy..Well good news..she said she now has three granddaughters..
Hugs,
Francine
-
Chris
Good Luck - Hope its a girl!!
My grandparents (Mother's parents) had nine girls - no boys! My grandfather gave up after nine - he was scared to try again! LOL!! The daughters all went on to have boys and girls, but all of my cousins from this family are all having boys. Strange isn't it! We laugh when we think how hard my grandfather tried for a boy. He certainly must have felt out numbered when that time of the month came for all of them. He must have slept outside somewhere to get out of the house! LOL!!

Hello Ladies
I just returned from the Mayan Riviera last night. It was a great week with great friends...lots of laughs and the weather was fantastic.
Sounds like it's been all good news around here.
Tanasha: you are amazing. Good luck with your nursing little Kennedy and like Chris said..it's amazing what our bodies are capable of.
Francine: Thanks for the welcome back. Glad you had a nice dinner at the Plaza. I have such fond memories of our NYC get together. I would like to take my DH back there next time.
Kim40: glad all is well wih you. how is your brother doing? If i recall, you both had scan dates in January so I hope everything went well. Enjoy your trip...two weeks...marvellous!
Chris: Congratulations! Another new life to celebrate. Wishing a girl for you but I know you will be thrilled regardless. It so exciting to hear good news ...new life...Tanasha's baby, vacations, etc. We are all so lucky to be celebrating and enjoying life now.
BethR: thanks for cheering on the Steelers. The outcome was not what i hoped for but we enjoyed watching it when we got home last night. The kids we at our house with " football food" for us...just what I needed after a week of non stop eating....lol Good luck selling your home.
Dayla: Congrats on your new job and i hope it turns into full time for you.
Patti: glad you are now on the 6 month onc plan!
I hVe signed up for dragonboat racing with the Edmonton Breast Friends teM. We start training this week. 3 times a week at the gym with a trainer and coach. Then in April, we start training on the water, learning the paddling strokes etc. They seem like a great group of gals so I am really looking
forward to it.
Big hugs to all
Beth P -
Beth P: What is dragonboat racing??? Is that like rowing....extra long canoes?? Sounds like good exercise...
I am trying to stick with Planet Fitness at least 3-4 days a week. Why is it so much easier to come up with grand excuses than it is to pull into the gym!!
-
Chris; congratulations on your future first grandchild!
Tanasha, hope the breast feeding is working out well.
Dayla, good luck with job!
Bethr, all the best for selling the house.
Bethp - dragonboat racing is hard core! You'll be so fit! Not that you are not already.
To all others; it is lovely to read of your work and holiday and family matters. Thank you, especially to Francine, for keeping this thread active. It is always a treat to log in and see new posts from you all.
Well, I have some news, which I have waited longer than last time to tell, for obvious reasons. I am pregnant again (yes, Damian is the father; the status or non-status of our relationship is an entire soap opera unto itself but suffice to say he knows and is very happy about it, and the rest is up for debate and I will just see what happens) and had my 12 week scan yesterday. It showed that all seems okay; the risk of genetic abnormality is quite low, the baby is in normal growth range and looks healthy. I am not making it super official yet (not saying anything on FB, for instance) but am telling those close to me, and you all feel like you are in that category. I'm desperately nervous, but terribly terribly happy. If all continues well the baby will be born on 21 August or thereabouts.
-
Rachel: I am so happy for you. I wish you all the wonderful things you deserve and another new baby here will be joyous news. No worries (that's my Aussie lingo) ...whatever happens with you and Damian will become secondary when you have your little bundle of joy. Wishing you good health, great happiness and love to you and your baby.
Francine: I echo what Rachel said...thank you for keeping the thread rolling!
Chris: I agree with you...it's so easy to make excuses to not go to the gym...yet I always feel so good after a workout. I tell my husband that going to the gym is like sex....it's hard to get motivated but once I am into it....I think...damn why don't I do this more often....lol? I am very excited
about dragonboating. The boats are long and I think there are 18 paddlers per boat as well as a
drummer (to keep the paddlers in rhythm) and a steerer....need someone to keep us on course...lol.
It has been around for over 1500 years. There is probably one in your area. I think Patti did it last year.
Hugs
BethP -
Hi Ladies,
First of all thks for the nice comments Rachel . I am so happy for you and your new pregnancy. Do hope all goes well..We are always here for you and do wish you the best.
My DH and I try to go to Planet Fitness also everyday when we do not have a dr's appt or something. We have been going pretty religiously about three to four times a week. With earphones and a good TV show I can walk at a good pace about a mile and three quarters in a half hour. I also do some strength training when I am in the mood. We also ( especially me) Try to limit my intake of sweets etc. I am so not looking forward to all the food on the cruise that starts this Saturday. But we will go to the gym daily.
BethP.. the dragonboat stuff sounds like a good way to exercise and have comraderie with other BC survivors. Saw your new photo on FB ..Wow..Sorry about the Steelers.
Good news all..Went to see my PS 's( yes I have a team) today and I now have a date for my nipple. It will be at the end of March..It's done a local anesthesia. ..The PS remarked that I have been working on this breast for almost two years.. This fall will be three years since my DX.
At my Gilda's Club meeting yesterday was a young women with three children under 5 starting chemo today. We all told her that she will manage and move on with her life..I encouraged her to meet a group of women on this board as we all did..
Finally no snow in NY, even a little sun.
Hugs to all.
Francine

Congrats to you Chris on new grandchild coming soon! I hope it is a girl!
Huge congrats to you Rachel, and fingers, toes, and everything else I have crossed for you!!! I hope everything is going well. How have you been feeling? Any nausea?
I echo the gratitude for bethP, bethR and Francine for keeping this thread going. I know we post less often now, but I still come and read every week or so, and love to hear about everyone's progress. Look how many are graduating to every 6 months!!!
I saw my onc Jan 26th, and was told to come back in 6 weeks (boo) as I am having some trouble with blood counts, not sure of origin. I am being sent for a colonoscopy on Friday. Did you all know breast cancer patients have a 20% chance of developing colon cancer??? Like we need that on top of everything else!
I have been slacking in the gym/exercise department as well. I seem to find it hard to motivate myself, and have been lacking in energy lately. I know once spring weather starts coming I will be more likely to go walking again.
I am excited about everyone's vacations! I hope to take a long one this summer, hopefully to Ireland.
-
Hi all: Very happy for you Rachel.
In the Philadelphia area there are 2 dragonboat clubs. Philadelphia Flying Phoenix, and Hope Afloat or/ Floats. Both have teams specifically for BC survivors as well as competition teams and recreational teams. I don't belong to either club, but belong on a team through the Cancer Support Center, we do one amatuer race/year that is open for any group that comes up with team. The race is in late September/early October. Our team consists of survivors of any type of cancer and we are trained by the Flying Phoenix coach her donates her time/equipment, etc to us. She is a BC survivor too. We are just going to start our indoor training next week.
Beth - You will really enjoy it.
It seems that many of us are working out more. I have started a strict diet and I'm trying to exercise as much as possible. I even signed up for a boost class (interval type training for 1/2 hour) 2x/week. The trainer is "killing me". My onc was very happy that I did lose 10 lbs since last visit and says "keep on doing what your doing". Well I'm off to class 2 night.
-
Rachel...CONGRATULATIONS!!! I pray for a healty pregnancy for you!
I, too, had a colonoscopy...all went well.
We need to plan a spring trip...ready for girls weekend again???
-
Jdking: sorry to hear that you are not feeling too well...maybe the winter is taking its toll! I love the sunshine so I always feel a bit fatigued and not myself in the long winter months. Good luck with your colonscopy. As far as motivation for the gym goes....I am a slacker. But I told my DH....sex is like going to the gym....hard to get me motivated but once I get into it...I think...why don't I do this more often..lol
Patti: I had my first training session tonight at the gym. We will train at the gym 3 x week until April 7 and then we will be at the gym 2x week and once a week in the pool with a mock dragonboat to learn the paddling skills. Mid May we move to the river 3 x week for paddling. I really enjoyed it tonight. We did circuit/weight training and then did a spin class. It was tough but good.
Chris: Spring trip sounds great to me. Any thoughts on where and when?
Hugs to all
Beth P -
Hi All,
Rachel - Fantastic news! You'll be in my prayers for an uneventful pregnancy! I'm very happy for you.
Beth and Patti - The dragon boating sounds really cool. I wonder if they do anything like that in the DC area. I'll have to check into it.
As with a few of you, I've been lacking in the excersize department for quite some time now. Some of that had been due to healing from the diep flap. And to make it worse, I'm still working from home and should be able to fit excersize in more easlily due to that, but don't, at least not consistently, and that really frustrates me. I can say that when I do excersize, it does wonders for how my mid-section feels after the diep flap. So that is some incentive. Not to mention I've gained alot of weight over the Winter. ugh!!
Well, got to get to work. Again, Rachel, I'm so happy for you. When I hear about the pregnancies after chemo, it's just extra special to me and my prayers go out to you and anyone else trying. Fantastic!!!
Have a great day all!
Beth
-
Rachel! Awesome news!! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you.
BethP - Dragonboating sounds like fun! They have one here in Dartmouth too called Bosum Buddies. A friend of mine signed up last year and she has been wanting me to go. I've been declining as working full time and volutneering my spare time with Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia, I haven't had time to think! I may go with her one day at the training just to get a feel and do the rec boat. My friend loves it and finds it so exhilerating! As for my news, my DB and I got the free and clear for another year! Our scans were clean - perfect time too as it was my DM birthday on the same day! She is over the top with this news!
I have four sleeps left and I'm off to Orlando. We got a lot of snow this year so really, any place is better then here!
Bethr - Good luck in selling your house - hope it won't be up on the market too long.
I better get to work I guess. Better put in a couple of full days before I go on vaca!
Have a great day all!!
Kim
-
Kim: that's fantastic news about you and your brother's scans. You must be so relieved and I'm sure your DM is over the moon with joy. I'm sure you would enjoy the dragonboating. It would be beautiful paddling on Banook Lake which is where I assume they have it.
Have a wonderful time in Florida.
Francine: Are you busy packing for your cruise? Sorry but I don't remember where you are going.
Hugs
Beth P -
Great news on the scans Kim!
BethP....anywhere warm!!
-
Hi Ladies,
Glad to hear many good things happening to us.
BethP..I leave on my cruise this Saturday. MY DH and I are just beginning the packing mode.
I too would be interested in meeting up once again..It was so much fun last year. Any ideas..
Chris..someplace warm? How about Orlando? do you have any suggestions ?an island ?
WE could also meet someplace here in the East..DC..or even New York again....Let's here what we are all interested in..
Rachel..such great news after chemo..Tanasha is nursing. How great is that?
BethR- good luck finding a new place to live and of course in selling your house..
Hugs,
Francine

Hi,
Thks Beth of the good wishes. Just about finished packing ..
Anyplace where you would like to go with the the group?
Would you be interested in Washington DC.? Have you been there? Amazing place to visit.
Hugs,
Francine
-
Thank you everyone for your good wishes. I have had quite a lot of general queasiness, and am quite tired, but otherwise well.
Janine it is Friday here already so I am thinking of you and hoping the colonoscopy shows that things are all clear.
Kim that is indeed good news on your scans and your brother's too.
Happy travels, Francine. And since it is Friday afternoon here, happy weekend to everyone.
-
Rachel: Awww...the queasiness and fatigue brings back my own pregnancy memories. Soak it all in and focus on the joy of it all. I am comtinuing to send you good thoughts and huge blessings on this great journey of yours.
Keep checking in. You have a huge group of cheerleaders behind you.
Janine: good luck tomorrow. Good thoughts are with you
Hugs
Beth P
