Harley I think about your name for it and laugh every time I get on ours. My therapist is having me do equal time facing forward and walking backwards on it without using my arms. Thinks it will help with the balance issues from the neuropathy. I'll try anything
-
Weight machines today. I feel very pooped so may skip the elliptical tonight...
-
Check the health food stores ... there's a "fake" and unusually yummy kind of "chocolate" that may help you!
Yoga and meditaion are amazing! I started this just before I was diagnosed and I'm so glad that I did. Although I'm very modified now, I still get the benefits of breathing and lengthening ... it's wonderful.
Hugs!

dbaze, you look great on Barney! love your blogs by the way. And I think you are a crazy saint LOL!! (for having 9 kids)...WOW!
Spring, could your knee be bothering you from all the biking, cause biking really aggravates my right knee. hmmm, wonder if one of those knee braces would help???...
Deanna, I was wondering how your bumps and bruises were, glad you are making some progress!
I used my last exercise voucher on Sunday, holy cow what a class!! Wish I could afford that place! But these are all exercises I could do at home...but do you think I will when I'm not forced to? hmmm I will try and commit.
I went to our club and did the torture machine aka Barney last night, and chuckled as I thought of you gals. Walked at lunch today, but I'm really sore from that group class. Tonight I'm taking off and resting.
My younger DD is coming up to spend the night with my older DD and meet her new little niece and I will head over there tomorrow night after work, I can't wait to have my girls together!!! all my girls!!!
We are finally sunny, but its windy today. Thinking of those that are getting snowstorms and ice. Be careful out there!

You are FACING forward and MOVING BACKWARD? You are not FACING BACKWARD? I think that would be VERY DIFFICULT! LOL
I have done some BACKWARD revolutions, but mostly stick with forward, cause it's easier! LOL
Harley

Harley it is soo good to see you back here!!!
I walked 4 miles in the wind today. Not as bad as the Midwest, but windy!!
Stay warm everyone. Soon it will be 100 again.

kmmd: The mode I'm using on my elliptical shakes things up by having me walk at my own pace, 2 minutes in the opposite direction (backwards), then concentrate on pushing or pulling with my arms, 60 second sprints. I've come to like the backward motion but I'm not sure I could do it without using my arms. Just may test myself tomorrow as I could use some improvement on my balance. I keep telling myself I'm going to return to using the Wii but haven't broken it out yet.
kfinnigan: "Crazy angel" -- hmmmm...I like the sound of that but still think the angel part is a bit too lofty. Enjoy your visit with your daughters and new grandbaby!
Harley: Oh, Barney's REAL name is definitely the Torture Machine from Hell but it's hard to willingly engage in a relationship with someone by that name, hence my renaming him. But I guarantee you, I'm right there with you in regards to a love/hate relationship.
fuzzylemon: ahhhh...I like the idea of yoga and meditation.
I finally decided to step on the scale yesterday -- haven't weighed myself since I started my daily elliptical training a month ago. Just what I expected (and why I have resisted checking) no weight change!! BooHoo! I have noticed that my arms and legs aren't jiggling much these days so I guess that's the change. I need a personal trainer!! Someone who could help me work out a personal plan for me -- dang, I'm working so hard at saving money that just can't warrant the expense though.
-
diane,
Thanks. It's good to be back! I am on Facebook ALOT these days...
dbdaze,
You are too funny! I agree... what I need most is the motivation to get exercise every day. I always seem to find something else to do...
Well, I have been busy, taking my MIL to physical therapy 3X week, and taking her to her hair appts., and grocery shopping... she has just been released to drive, so I will have to get started again.... oh, she broke her wrist the day before Thanksgiving.

Harley, facing backward and going backward, It is strange but I see why they think it is good for me.
dbdaze, it does help. Yoga helped too. They're also having me practice with standing on one leg with my eyes closed. I look like a chicken with their head chopped off with that one. I've starting compensating by sight, take that away and the neuropathy really makes itself known. I could probably entertain quite well at a party where people have had too much to drink.
Kari, thinking of you hugging that sweet new baby
-
kmmd, I still have balance issues, and my PT last year told me to do the one leg stand for 1 minute then close my eyes, I'm ALL over the place once I close my eyes!!
Still sore from Sunday's class, managed a long stretching session last night, and walked again on my lunch hour.
Seeing my daughters and sweet little grandbaby girl soon...after work!! YAY!!
-
kmmd.... WOW! I was just kidding, but you are FACING backward AND going backward! SCARY, not using your arms... I would be afraid I'd fall!
Glad everyone is doing well.

Hello ladies I would love to join in on this thread as I could use as much motivation and support as I can get to get in shape and more importantly stay in shape......I notice 1 familiar face Harley44 on this thread, but still have a lot of reading to catch up on......
When I finished radiation I decided I needed to really get my butt in gear and started walking everyday for at least 3 or more miles and within months I have dropped 20 lbs. I have been at a plateau as I tend to be an outside walker as opposed to a treadmill (which I have, but hate to use) and I just cant seem to stay motivated and could use as much support as possible to get back on track......

Hello June, and Welcome to this thread of lovely, very active ladies. I feel so bad, cause I haven't been keeping up with my exercise. It is STILL WAY TOO COLD outside...
Congratulations on your weight loss! You seem VERY motivated to me!!
Harley

Welcome June. What besides walking sounds fun. Do you have cable like comcast that has exercise and fitness on demand, I have a pilates/yoga/aerobic DVD where I can mix and match 10 min of routines that I use on days I'm having a hard time pushing myself to do something or I'm bored with the routine. Sounds like you're ready to mix in something with the walking, add in some resistance or strength training?
-
Welcome June! You'll find motivation here! Many of the members put me to shame with their workout sessions but it's not a competition. This group is very supportive and encouraging. I'm with you -- waiting for warmer weather so I can get my walking shoes on. Until then it's just me and my loser friend, Barney (aka the Elliptical Trainer Machine from HELL). They say "you are what your friends are" -- if that's true, I'll soon be a "loser" too!!! lol

Welcome June!
Just a quick one!
Facing backwards and going forwards? Wow, that is an interesting thought!
So Tuesday 45 on elliptical and yesterday 30 minute weights and 90 min yoga, and I worked a full day too!! screw you cancer!
Kari, enjoy "all your girls" !!! xoxoxox to all, back later!!!

I tried FACING and GOING BACKWARD today.... OMG! I was too afraid of falling, and I was SO OFF BALANCE!
Then my dh came in and I told him what I was doing. He got on, the big idiot, and he even did several revolutions before starting to fall, but the caught himself before he hit the WOOD blanket chest. That would have been ME... but once I start to fall, I usually can't stop!
Do you have anyone to 'spot' you??

Welcome everyone! Debbie just remember that muscle weighs more than fat!! So if you don't lose on the scales you could be tightening up.
June just do ten minutes of anything. Spring is on the way. We are actually having a week above freezing. I can handle that.
This virius kicked my butt. I am still not eating right but I will get back on track soon. I actually start day shift on Friday. I am walking my dog twice a day again. Hope everyone is staying warm and safe with the storms crossing the country. Keep moving!!
-
Welcome, June, and congratulations on the 20 lb. weight loss! Good for you! I'm also a huge fan of walking, and although I didn't have much weight to lose, I've dropped a pants size and totally reshaped my hips & thighs -- mostly from walking.
Joy, glad to see you're feeling better!
Kari, I love the thought of "your girls" now including the newest little one. I know how you adore spending time with your girls, and the thought of that newest member of the group is just so special and heartwarming.
I only walked 1.5 miles on Tuesday (thanks to the 10 minute rule) because my knee is still painful. I skipped yesterday due to knee pain, but was able to bundle up (don't laugh -- I needed 4 layers in our 40 degree weather!) this morning and do just over 3 miles. I actually felt like I could have done more, but didn't want to push it just yet. Deanna
-
Welcome June!! Congrats on your weight loss, you will find your motivation again, hang in there!!
Spring, i LOVED your comment...screw you cancer...I took a walk at lunch on the trail behind work, finally nice enough to walk outdoors at lunchtime (posted a few pics on FB) and I was actually saying SCREW YOU CANCER too!!! wow, we think alike!
Deanna, you've got me figured out, I LOVE spending time with my girls and now just cherish our added addition. All my girls are coming over for dinner before my younger DD heads back to the Bay Area this evening. My heart is soaring!!
Played Wii with my SIL last night while my younger DD held the baby, then we switched places, it was a lot of fun, I stayed up past my bedtime, heehee
For those of you with severe weather, I'm thinking of you and wishing you safe travels when you leave your houses. Spring is coming...
-
45 minutes on the elliptical before dinner! I am really on a roll! Here is my weekly target: 3x in the gym for weights (~30 min), 3x on the eliptical (or other cardio) for 45 mintues, 1 90 minute yoga. I have been trying to do this religiously, and have been doing it!! As long as I am home and not traveling, it is happening! Woot!
What's your weekly routine??
Deanna, is your knee painful from the fall you took out of the car? I think I have identified which weight machines are making my knees hurt. I skipped 2 yesterday and my knees are good today - even after the yoga and elliptical. I am going to stick with skipping those for now...
-
Deanna: Yesterday after working out with Barney, I was so hot and sweaty, I went to stand outside to cool off. What I REALLY wanted to do was to go for a walk -- the weather was cool with a light sprinkle -- so inviting after that workout but I felt the neighbors might gawk at me in my pj bottoms and tank top with no bra. Kinda lost the interest after taking a shower and dressing.
Last night was Ladies Margarita Nite at my house so getting up at 5 am to get my daughter off to school and then start my workout was darn difficult. I really really wanted to bag the elliptical, ended up shaving 5 minutes off and just doing 30 minutes.
Springtime: I love the goals you set for yourself and your follow through is nothing short of amazing!

Deanna,
Hope your knee is feeling ALL BETTER soon! I fell when running at a friend's house in Cocoa Beach, about a year ago. I think I will have trouble with that knee for the rest of my life. When I went on the cruise in December, going up and down the stairs really hurt! I think I need a cane!
Spring, I am SO inspired by you! I have been so sluggish lately. I think it is because it is so COLD here, and today it is RAINING... UGH... I want to go back to bed. But I will force myself to get on that torture machine and do 30 minutes...
dbdaze,
I am inspired by you, too! You do a blog EVERY DAY! I don't have anything to say, and I don't think anyone would want to read it. BORING....
Harley

Thank you all for the welcome.....I look forward to the motivation and support I am sure I will get from here...... just trying to catch up to all these post......
dbdaze you make me laugh from reading all your posts......and I am glad it is not a competition, I just need support and I think I am going to find it here with you ladies.....It is just what I need.....
Springtime- I love the pic of your horse I assume.....my daughter rides and loves it! You are kicking butt with your workouts, how inspiring......I just started doing weights 2 times a week and know I should be doing more than 2, but I prefer to take baby steps so I keep up with it......
dlb823 you look great....if I looked that good I wouldn't be busting my ass to get back to where I was when I got married.....I really slacked after having my kids and this cancer put my mind in perspective that I really need to take care of me 1st and everyone after.........I guess some good things come out of bad......
I have been trying so hard to get my workout (treadmill 30 min) done in the morning so I can spend some time with the kids in the evening.....it seems so much harder for me to get motivated in the evening. However I did do the Wii last night for 32 minutes....a little yoga and step along with some hula hoop......I was out of breath when I was done, so I know I got a good workout in......so all in all I did 30 min in the morning on the treadmill and Wii, so not that bad.....

Did a good walk on the trail behind my office yesterday, I was sweating coming up that hill on the way back (not pretty). I was upset, found out another lady I met in Cancun last April at my DD's wedding is losing her battle with BC, she had bone mets at the time, and she was pissed, something about a mis-diagnosis and wrong chemo regime...but she had an attitude, a good one, that she was going to DO and GO GO GO!!! She enjoyed herself immensely and we bonded. She's the mom of 3 of my daughter's friends, very nice people. When we left I hugged her and called my sister and said I would keep tabs on her through her kids on Facebook and through my DD. I found out yesterday via FB that she is leaving the hospital (pneumonia and lung collapsed, stupid BC!) to go home to die. I went on my walk yesterday and I was fuming mad, I was saying out loud a few obscenities toward my thoughts on cancer. This is one ugly beast.
So may we continue to motivate each other, inspire each other and make each other smile and laugh once in awhile. Life is precious and I appreciate all of YOU!!
On a lighter note, my DD's and grandbaby came over last night. What a wonderful reminder of all the good in the world.
LOVE LOVE LOVE to all you gorgeous gals!
-
I managed to do 32 minutes on the elliptical torture machine today. It's RAINING, it's POURING!
June, so good to see you here too.
Kari,
So sorry to hear about your friend. Cancer SUCKS!
I am glad to come here for support and motivation.
Harley
-
June, that is not my horse, it was a horse I was visiting! ha! If I had a horse, I'd be adding riding to my exercise routine!
Kari, I am so sorry about your friend. I HATE IT!!! I know EXACTLY what you mean. I also get so mad.
Today, I have not done ANYTHING!! Weights are on the agenda for today. I need to go out in this gross freezing rain weather!! Blech!
-
Kari how awful for you and your friend! How does one really move on knowing someone is losing their battle and leaving kids behind......my heart aches for you!!!
Harley good for you doing the elliptical today....my favorite gym machine to use and I try to use it at least once a week. I have Monday's to myself and I do hit the gym for 2 hours and do weights, 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on treadmill and 10 minute doing the bike.......you would think it would do something for me, I know it is only 1 day a week, however the rest of the week I workout at home at least 3-4 days......
I am exhausted today as I shoveled my deck to my pool afraid of the weight of the snow and attempted to do some of the roof of our house as I feel so bad for my husband as all we seem to do here in New England is snow blow and shovel ourselves out every week at least once if not twice.......Yes I am WHINING!!!!!.....I cannot even begin to tell you how I cannot see to get out of my driveway and there is no way to chisel it down, we have tried everything.....Well off to relax as I can hardly move tonight!! OUCH!!!
-
June
You go, girl! I could not do all that shoveling.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
