any sister in my area????

Hi sistahs i was wondering if any body lives in Los angeles California ,  I am 38 year old and i have a 4 year old baby girl. I would really love to be in touch with some one in my area.I am in the middle of my treatments and I need a buddy with who I can chit chat sometimes or meet in person .

    melania- I'm sure there are many out there who are near your area. Also, if you look at the chemo or radiation threads there should be one for the month you started your treatment. You will find much comradarie there as you meet others who are going through the same things you are. It is a great place to chitchat. Best to you.

    Try posting this question in some other forums to reach more people -- I know there are CA girls here -- just be aware that if you're a new poster, you can only post 5 times in 24 hours until you reach a certain number of posts (50? sorry, I don't remember).    But as jacee said, you'll meet many really wonderful women here who may not be close to you in terms of physical distance but will be able to cheer, support, commiserate, and hug you anyway.  We're all here for you!!  Also, if you want local support, you might want to look for cancer and/or breast cancer support groups in your area, and if your oncologist has a therapist on staff, that's another great resource.

    Best of luck and a warm hug as you continue through treatment!

    Hi, Melania ~ Where are you being treated?  I live near Palm Springs and had tx @ ULCA, and I know UCLA has excellent support groups that are open to non-UCLA gals based on space availability.  There's also a terrific group of young patients/survivors out of UCLA & Cedars Sinai who did a video called Pink Wig Dance.  They're on Facebook, and I know they would welcome hearing from you.  I met them at a UCLA function, and was so impressed with how upbeat they are.  PM me if you'd like names & a link to their FB page.     Deanna

    Hi girls thanks alot for the info ,

    Actually i don't want to bother the sisters who are in the middle of treatment just like me as i know what are they going through right now and seeing someone or chit chating is sometimes the last thin I wanna do but as for inspiration I would like to meet or chat with some one who is done with all this shit and i can get my inspirations when i feel down.

    Dear dlb823 I am getting my treatments in cedars sinain cancer center and I know that they support group but i never went there i was scared i will get to meet with someone with similar dignois whose cancer is already back after few years !!!! I know there will be others too but i guess just one person with a negative thing will effect me more . Do you have any idea about it ? if it's divided to several groups by stage or how is it ??

    melania, I had the same reaction to support groups... I went twice but came away crying both times.  There were 20+ year survivors and those in final stages... it was just too much for me.  But there were some wonderful women there and I wish I'd been able to handle it better.  Do what feels right for you.

    Melania (love your name!) ~ UCLA actually has 3 support groups -- "Women Together," which is for women with early stage bc who are in tx; "Looking Ahead," which is for women who are finished with tx; and "Living Beyond Limits," which is for recurrent and Stage IV women.  Because I live so far from UCLA, I haven't been able to attend them, but I love the psychologists who facilitate them, and have heard that they're excellent.  I've also heard wonderful things about Cedars, and I wouldn't be surprised if maybe they also have separate groups, which is obviously only possible when you have the number of bc patients facilities like these treat.  

    Anyway, here's a link to UCLA's Simms-Mann Center for Integrative Oncology, which is the department that handles support.  http://www.simmsmanncenter.ucla.edu/   I also just noticed that the renown integrative oncologist, Keith Block, is speaking there tonight!  That should be an incredibly interesting presentation!        Deanna
