i also got emu oil- but my nurse said no oils..........
is anyone else using emu oil
-
Omaz - I'm glad the Faulding Essentials Vit E arrived and you like it - that brand had no perfumes which is why they recommended it. It is nice, but now I'm stuck on this Moo Goo stuff - just love it. I've still got a full tub of the Vit E, I might use that as well. I can alternate:)

Eloise, thanks for the info. I can tell you that the mask thing is kinda scary. It fits very snugly over one's face, and when they lock it down it makes you feel very vulnerable, as you can't move your head, or even twitch your nose! Due to the Avastin I'm on, I'm concerned I may need to dab my nose (it seems to constantly be damp) and won't be able to. Torture to have an itchy nose that you can't scratch. Well, Monday is the start, so we'll see how it all goes.
Good luck with your treatments, everyone. -
TNBCer, my techs told me they would itch my nose if need be, that they are very experienced nose itchers! I am not in a mask but am not supposed to move anyway. I have drippy nose and understand it is from our nose hairs falling out with the rest of our hair. I really look forward to nose drips coming to an end.
TNBCer You will do well, your techs will support you. Tell them what you need, ask for what you need okay. You will have all of us holding your hands.

I spoke too soon about no problems. Over the weekend, I seem to have developed some sort of skin irritation. I am itching like crazy under my boob and there are some red spots. They almost look like freckles but they are reddish in color. The spots don't itch but they are adjacent to the area that is itching. Anyone had this?
-
Irr4993 - The reaction you are having is common. You may want to try 1% hydrocortisone cream or some have used Benadryl (sp) cream. I had the itching and had to have my RO give me a RX for Topicort which for me was a wonder cream. Got rid of the itch very quickly.

HI Suepen,oh yea thats all i do is lather and lay im using miaderm,,aguafor and this other product my rad dr. likes its called andra sina the women who created it lives in my area it had emerald aloe which is a very good healing aloe...but i am going to get some just aloe gel and put in fridge, but honestly 24/7 im slathered in products no bra, barely a top just laying around keeping it moist.im thinking of asking my rad dr. if i could go 4 days a week, then have 3 to recover cause by sunday i have less stinging and heaviness and if i could have 2 days of being happy that might help me mentally get through this .have u ever heard of anyone doing that? i know i would have to add them at the end but i do not care ate this point this is l way longer than i ever anticipated anyways! thanks you for your thoughts

My daughter just went to Walmart and found udder cream (not moo goo), is this any good or has anyone used it? It was so cheap $3.46 for 12ozs. I am taking it to the Dr. tomorrow and see if I can use it. I can't find moo goo anywhere.
-
For Moogoo...
-
Adey: I saw this website before but it's Austrailia, by the time it go here i would be done with treatment. Someone mentioned that they got it at Walmart that's why I was asking if it was the same thing, but, it says for cow's udders!
-
Udder cream is wonderful for lots of things. I keep some around the house all the time.
-
I see my rad onc on tuesday and will ask about the topicort. The itching has stopped for now, but it kept me up all night last night. On make matters worse, I am afraid to scratch it since the skin may be sensitive right now. Driving me crazy!
-
lestwin-- I ordered some but have not received it yet. I have a week or so until I start rads. Bag Balm is pretty much petroleum jelly with lanolin (I think). I have used it before but try to stay away from any petroleum products now. I don't know if Udder Cream is the same. I will definitely be buying some aloe vera and will probably continue to use coconut oil. Good greasy luck to us all! (c:
-
Adey - It is best not to use any kind of oils during radiation - makes the skin burn easier. For a good over the counter cream - use Aquaphor instead - it is greasy but worked very well for me. Just a suggestion.
-
The Moo Goo is a white cream not sticky - it has Aloe and VitE in it. It absorbs into the skin really well. It also says it has some oils in it, but I guess they are in such small quantities it's ok. If the rad onc thinks it's good - I'll believe her. The instructions on the back are for applying to cows udders - A joke I think, although it's probably based on a real udder cream.
Beacher - When I had rads last year, there were lots of public holidays at the time, so I didn't always do 5 days a week. However, better to get it over with I think. Good to hear you are using something. Strange you are stinging already though. It is worth getting the aloe gel - I always put that on right after the treatment, sometimes again an hour later. I use the cream several times a day after that.
Well, No 10 today - not till nearly 11am, so I can laze around doing nothing until then

Like a lot of the ladies, I am using Miaderm but nothing else. Should I be??? So far, everything is really good - - only a few moments of discomfort here and there.
But I relate to all of you laying around . . . I have also become a couch potato. I'm not working right now anyways, but have tons to do around the house. Am I doing it? No. Nothing. Nada. Dust bunnies so big I can just scoop them up with my hand as I walk around the house. Don't wanna cook, don't wanna clean, don't wanna do the laundry, don't wanna get off the couch. Paralyzed, really. My counsellor tells me its OK and I should keep doing it until I don't feel guilty about it anymore. Now that's a tough one . . .
-
I was given a tube of that udder cream during chemo for my fingers/hands. I'm not sure if it is OK during rads as it seems to have a bunch of ingredients including fragrance. I'm not 100%. I am still using the same cream that they recommended--called Glaxal Base in Canada. I am a little pink and I can feel some discomfort. I am avoiding wearing a bra as I was getting kind of red underneath the boob. I'm not looking forward to another week as I am starting to feel the fatigue that everyone was talking about......Like Penny said--have no energy for anything. Have rads plus family doc checkup appt tomorrow--I will be ready for bed by dinner!!!
-
Penny - I'm doing almost nothing - the house is filthy and I don't care. It's too hot over here to do housework anyway. I did do some weeding yesterday afternoon - that was therapeutic. I've been watching a lot of tv and doing my cross stitch and that's it. Don't feel guilty - enjoy the rest.
Rachael - this MooGoo I'm using was recommended by the rad onc - otherwise I wouldn't touch it. There was also the testimonial from a rads patient that sold me on it. The udder cream you can get over there may not have the same ingredients so best to be safe. I can post the ingredients if anyone wants to check it against the stuff in WalMart.

suepen - I got MooGoo Full Cream, is that what you are using? I ordered from AU.

Hello to everyone--I finished Week 1 of radiation on Friday. Fairly easy so far but feeling a bit tired. Really don't want to mess up the skin--breast is already messed up with 2 biopsy scars, lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy scars. Nurse says to use aloe and corn starch only for now but I'm hesitant to wait until I have problems. Therefore, I'm using Lily of the Desert aloe (the Fruit of the Earth sample from doctor's office has a couple of unhealthy additives--possible carcinogen and another ingredient that may release formaldehyde) and Boiron Calendula Cream (10%). Hopefully, this will keep the skin happy and trouble-free.
-
BrilandGirl - Welcome to the group. Sorry you have to be here with us but it is a good place to hang out. The ladies here have lots of good information and even more caring than you can imagine.
-
BrilandGirl - Oh dear, really? - "The Fruit of the Earth sample from doctor's office has a couple of unhealthy additives--possible carcinogen and another ingredient that may release formaldehyde)"
I think I'll swtitch to the aloe in my yard - Sheesh! Welcome to the group. I start week 4 tomorrow.
-
Thanks, Jo, for the welcome. And Omaz--yes, the fresh aloe would be the best way. May just be a bit watery since aloe gels contain thickeners. I'm just learning about some of the cosmetic ingredients that are not so good for us--don't know if there's enough of these ingredients to make a real difference but I figure why take that chance if there are alternatives available. This will be a long road but I'm grateful for all my friends, family, doctors and health insurance!
-
BrilandGirl - There have been lengthy discussions about cosmetic ingredients well as ingredients in food products on another thread and I have to tell you my thinking is this - I used the stuff for many, many years and it did not make a difference then - why should it now. I refuse to change the way I do most things because of BC. I am not going to spend hours reading every label on every product and change my entire way of life. If I do that, BC wins. We all make personal choices we have to live with.
-
I'm not going to use anything until I have checked with the RO. I am allergic to everything including paper tape! When I use anything I have never used before, I can end up with 3 weeks of incessant itching and bleeding (only because I have an incurable blood disorder, which 1 in 1 million get) if I am allergic to it's contents. I start rads tomorrow and my DH asked me why I was so scared of rads and I told him the reason was to my allergic reaction to everything (so it seems). I would rather pain than the itching and hives, I can put up with all the other crap but itching is my biggest bugaboo!
I know I should be grateful that the cancer was caught really early and so were my 3 melanomas but it irks me that my biggest concern is itching. I want to get this crap over and done with and get on with my life, I know we all feel that way too. By the way, thanks to you guys, I have started drinking my water to hydrate myself and we will get thru this!

Suepen: Co

-
Omaz - I got the skin milk - don't know which one I should have got though - the nurse didn't say. Seems to be working anyway. I'm sure the full cream would be all right.

Hi everyone!
I'm starting week 4 tomorrow. Doing OK so far except for a red sore area under my breast which started last week. I've been using Udderly Smooth cream right after treatment and again before bed.The directions on the jar are for application to cow udders. My husband thinks that this is so funny but the stuff works - at least up til now. I get seen by the radiation nurse tomorrow so I'll see if she recommends anything else. I find that I'm more tired at the end of the week - I guess the fatigue is cumulative. The main problem is that I can't wear a bra because it makes this spot worse. I've been wearing cotton tank tops under my sweaters when I go to work. I look awful and feel very floppy but it's the only way I'm comfortable. I guess you can tolerate anything for 6 weeks!
-
Penny - I am using miaderm only. Which is more than my rad onco recommended - she said aloe only and to avoid lotions unless needed. However, based on recs here, I went ahead and ordered miaderm. My rad onco has since okayed it. My skin seems to be doing well. A little pink - like a very mild sunburn, but not bad. The itching is the worst part, but it seems to have stopped for now. I hope it stays away.
