Stop Smoking Support Thread

Annette, Karen and Vlady, WELCOME. We are here to help each other and the support here is great. Wonderful infomation too. Keep coming back and posting.
Ladies, I am having on of my nights of insomnia as I am concerned about getting all of my work finished before I go out on medical leave. Not sure how that is going to get done...I guess it is one report at a time. Hopefully no emergencies arise.
I heard from my son today, from jail for his DUI, and he has been made a trustee already. I guess that is good. It will keep him busy while he is in there. He sounded good and is already talking about staying clear of the alcohol when he gets out which is really needed. He is a great guy, just has to leave the alcohol alone. Some people just cannot drink and he is one.
Today we have a big meeting with the director of our agency and things do not sound good for our agency. I work for an agency that provides services and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and we were put on probation through the Department of Developmental Services. Some of the old timers at work are afraid we may get shut down. I cannot wait until things in my life start sailing smooth for awhile. Please pray for me cuz I wonder how much more can I take.....just joking. I am tough and can handle it all...or at least that is what I have to tell myself for 3 more days until I am off for medical leave and will not have to worry about work for 2 weeks at least.
I have been using my straw quite a bit and some of my housemates were laughing at me but I will do whatever it takes to stay smoke free.

Good News. My grand daughter and her family will be moving back to CA on February 28th.
-
Oh Dutchy!! That IS such wonderful news about your grand-daughter!! Also sounds like your son is making the best of a bad situation... Maybe, just maybe, this is the wake-up call he needed! I HOPE that is so...
I hope that everything goes OK with your job. With the economy the way it is now, I know many people including my husband, are worried that, in a blink of an eye, they may not have a job! Yes, you are tough but, even us tough ones have our limits!
Doing really well on the walking! Not approaching your 5.5 MILES (that is a distant goal) but working on being consistant. Doing 45 minutes 5 days per week on the treadmill (waaaaaayyyy to cold to walk outdoors here). Looking to make that 45 minutes EVERY day... I've added a bit of light weight lifting as well! I've lost 2 pounds so am happy so far!
If I don't hear from you in the next few days, just want to wish you the best of luck (which you will NOT need) for your surgery on Monday. I will be thinking of you!
You are in the FINAL stretch of your reconstruction!!! Hang in there!
Jennifer

Dutchy:
Wow! Monday will be here before you know it!! I'm so happy for you.
So, Jennifer, how did you lose that 2 lbs?????

Jan,
I joined one of the threads over on the Health and Fitness section of this board. We've broken up into teams and you earn points for your team for different activities that you do throughout the week. Sort of a friendly competition....
Being accountable there has made me think about what I am eating AND exercise on the days where I just don't feel like it!
-
I'll have to check it out.
Fill tomorrow UGH...
-
Good luck tomorrow! That's your last one?
-
hopefully! UGH
-
Jennifer, great job with the walking. At least you are consistant with the walking. I cannot say that about myself. I am just getting the walking on in the weekend. I will get back into being consistent when I am on medical leave...hopefully.
Jan I hope this is your last fill. Good luck.

Dutchi- You seem to be having a lot of ups (your Granddaughter) and lows (your son). I would love to give you a hug. It all must feel like so much right now- or any time really. You are doing a great job not smoking and being a supportive Mom. I know your surgery will go great on Monday but I am still going to say good luck!
Jan I hope this is your last fill and thatyou're feeling well!
Welcome to all the new ladies here- I have been new too and have found great love and support on this thread, I know you will too.
Jen- You can cancel out my quit date- I have been cheating now that surgery is behind me and I plan on getting a new game plan going to make it work this time. I hate these damn things and the control they have.
Hugs to all of you.
-
Ok, fill was successful...now at 400cc and 390cc UGH....
Maybe one more he says! Looking good

Told him I didn't want to be too big or too small. He said no one ever complained of being too big..smart A$$.
Jan
-
Jan: Tell your doc he is WRONG! I told my PS I did not want to go back to being big. He filled me to 400, maybe 500 I don't remember, at my initial surgery so I haven't even done any fills. He started to do one and when I saw the needle I said, no thanks I'm perfectly happy where I am now.
-
Awww Laurie... I will update the roll call with your latest information BUT please know you are ALWAYS welcome here! We're still on for Idol, right? This just wasn't the right time for you... Doesn't mean the next time won't be!
Get yourself in the right frame of mind and get a plan together! I still BELIEVE that you can do this!!
Wishing the best for you!!!!
-
Jan,
Glad to hear your fill went well... No one ever complained of them being too large... spoken like a true man!
I would think it would depend on your body size/type as to what would be a good size for you. I have not had reconstruction so can not offer any advice based on experience!
Hoping that you are getting to the end of your reconstruction journey and that the results are everything you want and MORE!
Bama,
Great new avatar!!!! Lookin' GOOD girl!!!!
-
Lady:
I think he was being facitous (sp?).
Jennifer:
I'm going to be thrilled with my outcome. My PS is an artist and known for his recon.

Jan,
I kind of thought that... Sounds like you have a really great situation with your doctor in that, you respect his expertise AND also have a good feeling about him as a person as well!!!
SUCH a great feeling, I am sure, to know you are in good hands!!
Jennifer
-
Yes, he's a Jersey boy! That explains alot.
He can be quite moody but I absolutely love him and trust him. He gets alot of testimonials for his work.
J
-
Sounds like my oncologist... You don't have to agree 100% with everything they do BUT you DO have to feel comfortable that they know what they are doing and can trust their opinions! Sounds like you have that...
Here's to getting to your exchange soon!!! Are they still thinking March?
-
Yes, it looks like March.
If I get 1 more fill on the 10th it will be after 3/10. If not maybe before.
Will know more in 2 weeks.
Another waiting game

-
Thanks Seaside. That pic was taken soon after I lost my hair.
Jan: I was being facetious too

-
Lady:
I'm currently at 400 and 390 which I think are 'quite large' for my frame. I can't imagine 460cc.s. My DH told him to give me 'perky A's' and his answer was 'I don't do A's"...Typical man! Y'think?
Jan

Really a sensational discussion !!!!!!!!

Hello fellow non-smokers -
around 56 days smoke free, and finally I am having an easier time with it, the urge to smoke does not come too many times per day anymore, it's not the first thing that pops into my mind anymore after a meal etc., and the car has not once refused to start because I did not light up first, so all in all I can say I am happy with it. Stopped using the inhaler, really think the lozenge is easier, and I use them sparingly, 5-8 per day, these are the mini-lozenges. I almost used up the whole inhaler prescription, 168 cartridges, have maybe 30 left, they seem to make me cough when I used them, and the lozenge does not, so I will stay with these for 3-4 weeks, and then hopefully will not need anything nicotine related. I have gained weight, but needed to anyway, gained 9 lbs, but I lost them during treatment, so now my clothes fit right again, so an added benefit there. I know exactly where the weight gain came from, candy bars and hard candy, caramels etc, just could not leave that stuff alone, one time I ate a whole box of Junior Mints on my way home from the store, approx. 2.5 miles. I now get the sugar free candy and stick with the caramels, nips etc, and that should help some as I don't want to add any more weight now. I have been on a "vacation" from Aromasin, and will start back on it in a week or so, sure has been nice to not have the joint-muscle pains lately, have added vit d and magnesium to my supplements, and hope that will help with the SE's from aromasin.
Looks like the thread has moved right along, Laurie, you quit for the doctor, that's probably why it did not stick, next time you quit it will be because YOU want to, and it will work alot better for you. Wishing you luck with the next quit.
Jan, LadyinBama, Dutchcy, I just had a lupmectomy, and really cannot even imagine what you are going thru with the TE's, fills etc, glad it's over for some of you, and Jan you will be done soon too, YEAH. Jennifer, thanks for keeping this thread going, I am not often on the internet, but do check-in weekly.
Have a great weekend ladies, we had nice warm weather today, 79 degrees, love it. Spent most of the day outside.

dsgirl:
You go girl!!!! Very proud of your 56 days....you are doing it BIG TiME!!!
I gained weight also but am blaming the Tamoxifen...I don't think the chocolate bars and potato chips had anything to do with it.

I've been exercising almost daily and yesterday walked outside for the first time in awhile. Weather was a little chilly but felt great. Our weather over this week end is supposed to be near 60 - Yeah!!!
Yes, I'm at 400cc's fill now and go back on 2/10 - He's talking about one more fill...we'll see.
Keep up the good work!
Have a great weekend too.
Jan
-
Oh NO... kal-1865!!!!!
I missed your date!!!! So sorry but, better late than never I guess...
Congratulations on your 4 MONTH (yesterday) quit-aversary!!!
Way to GOOOOOO!!!!!
-
dsgirl,
WAY TO GO on 56 DAYS!!! You are doing so well. Glad to hear that it's getting easier! That will only continue to get better as time goes on...
Lol.... "the car has not once refused to start because I did not light up first" LOVE IT!!
One of the ladies who had quit for a long time (forgive me but, I don't recall who) posted quite some time ago that she had good luck with the lozenges! Glad to hear they are working for you as well! Figuring out what works or doesn't for you is a BIG part of quitting!!!
Sweets are and have always been my downfall! I am trying to be better about it but, I know I still have a ways to go! I mean, what can you say about Junior Mints other than mmmmmmmm!!
