Lower Back and Hip Pain ....x ray today....now I am so scared

Hi everyone. I have had some lower back pain (primarily when bending forward) and pain in my buttock for a couple of weeks now. Today my Primary Care Doc (who used to work in oncology) suggested I do a lumbar x-ray to easy my mind. But of course it did quite the opposite. I got 5 pictures on CD to take home and then they told me that my Doc will receive the results next week. I shouln't have looked at the pics, but I did and now I am soooo scared. How to calm my nerves untilnext week? I don't know. I have this gut feeling that it's mets...and being tripled negative I am so scared of mets because bone mets for us can't be treated with hormonals...sorry to ramble on, but I am just out of it right now from anxiety. Any advice for me?

I also had similar symptoms and had an MRI. It turned out to be compressed discs in my lower back. Hoping it's nothing. Big hugs,

    Hanami:

It can be many things Hanami, piriformis, sciatica, etc. - and not bone mets.  Try not to panic.  I'm triple neg too , so I well know the fear - hang in there and keep us posted.  Can you call and have them move this along a bit faster?  If not, have any ativan to take until results come in?

Hoping and thinking all will be well,

    Linda

Thank you for all the encouraging words. I emailed my onc this afternoon (because she was not the one ordering the scan and did not no about it yet) and told her that I was worried from looking at the x-rays myself. I then asked her if there was any chance she could look at them or talk to the Rad. doc or so and .... just 2 hours later she had her office call me to say everything looked ok. I was pretty relieved, but since the pain is still there I now wonder what is causing it....I have physio appointments ligned up for it and a prescription for an anti-inflammatory....hope that will make it better. Again, thanks for the replies and kind words.

Jenny: What did you do about those discs? It that something that went away by itself?

Finally my back pain is getting slightly better. The docs determined that it was a block in the illiosacral joint (?) and bed rest (elevated legs), anti-inflammatory meds., a good dose of tylenol and a tiny dose of a muscle relaxer are finally making a difference. Next week I'll get some physio sessions in and then hopefully the pain will stay away. I am glad that it seems to be lessening, but still shaken from my initial anxiety about a possible recurrence in the bones etc. Glad my onc is always there when I need her and responds quickly to all my "high anxiety emails" :-)
