Can anyone tell me what "invasive component" means as it relate to the tumor? My first pathology reports says that the pT2 20mm but 50mm in greatest dimension.

The second part reads

Size of invasive component:

2.0 CM

This is all so confusing to me.  I see my Oncologist for the first time tomorrow. I need answers!!

    Hi,

It looks as though your Invasive Tumor is 2cm in size.  Tumors can be both Invasive and Non Invasive (like DCIS and LCIS).

    I hope this makes sense.

My tumor was both DCIS and IDC. My path only measures the invasive part at 5.5cm It does state that the DCIS is less than 25% of the tumor but give no dimension for the DCIS. I know the MRI showed a 6.5cm tumor.

Ok, so when they stage a tumor do they use the size of the tumor or just the size of the invasive component? The reason I ask is that in one path report they have me staged at 1b for the PT which doesn't make sense if the tumor was 5cm by 2cm. It should be staged at at least a 2.

    Lago,

I have read many of your post and you sounds as if you need to know every nuance of your cancer. I have to laugh because I am the same way. No detail is too small!
