riley702, I see the same thing as you -- only I have seen this before -- many, many times -- on a thread that has had a number of comments deleted.

[And this thread has recently had a lot of comments deleted because some members who posted a lot here have left BCO and asked to have their accounts deleted.]

Does it ever go back to normal? Because we've flipped to page 53 and it's still doing it.

Wait, I think I've got it. The number of posts has to exceed the number deleted? So, in 3 more posts, it should go back to 'normal'. We'll see...

I'm seeing the same thing, but not just on this thread, but every thread that I click on.

Well, fiddle. I've got nothing. It's massively annoying when your favorite posts links don't work...

Riley .. I'm seeing the same thing on many different forums.  Probably just a glitch in the program.

Let's talk about free speech and the ramifications of free speech in print and speech.

Bachman is free to air her live tea party comments after the State of the Union, but at what cost to the unification of the republican party.  Every speech and written word has consequences and I believe there is always a cause and effect and action and reaction to our speech and printed word.  And that we must take responsibility for every spoken and written word.

Every right also carries a responsibility, including free speech.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Otter}}}}}}}}}}}}}, I just wanted to say that I've never found your posts to be derogatory.  I have found them to be well thought out.  I suppose there are people who NEED to send negative PMs.  Perhaps we should feel sorry for them.

Hi Shirley .. I don't feel sorry for people who send bad PM's .. I flat out don't like them.  It's rude and uncalled for. People who send out mean PM's forget there is a human being on the other side of their words, and their mean words can be very hurtful.

I've never received, nor have I ever sent, a mean pm, although a good friend received several, accusing her of being a troll when she first joined.  She was contributing to the old healthcare thread, and a few who didn't like her position decided she didn't belong here.  How mean is that?!

My response to a nasty pm would be to add that person to my "Ignore this Member" list.

If someone can not say something on an open board because it is hostile, there is no reason to say it. If your words can not stand up to scrutiny by other board members sit on your hands. The purpose of a PM is not to harrass people or circmvent bco's rules. If you want to get snarky do it in the open.

Hi, my name is Kathy Prihode and I am the one who sent Otter the PM. I am sorry, but I sent it as a private message so that I would not embarrass her in public. I believe in the Matthew 18 principal of not talking about someone behind their back, but directly telling them in person, but since I would not be able to see Otter in person, I felt I at least needed to tell her how I feel. Since she brought it out in the open, I felt that I needed to be honest and say who sent her the message. I will not go into detail what I said, but I definitely stand by what I said to her and I don't regret the words that I used. I am not a bad person, I just felt that I needed to tell her how I felt after almost 2 years of reading her post. That is all that I will say, My apologies for hurting anyone else. I promise I will not be on the boards again. Thank you, Kathy Prihode

Kathy, I do appreciate that you took ownership of your pm and explained the reason for it.  However, I have always been interested in human behaviour and am compelled to ask this question.  Why did you feel it was necessary to give your critique of someone's posts?  What need in you did it fulfill?  I am asking only out of interest, not to blame or judge you for what you did.

    ((((Otter))))

The "cold-hearted" comment was the one I found most surprising. I know you are not rude or lacking in integrity, but one can easily picture charges like that coming from someone uncomfortable with being hit in the face by facts of some kind ("The world is flat! It said so in a book." "No, it's round. That book was published in the 10th century." "Oh, you're soooo mean!!") I have seen you be extremely kind and patient with people who would wear most others' tolerance level thin. I always see a soft spot in a fellow animal impersonator. :-)

    • Dear Prettyin Pink!!!  Thank you for your kind reply and interest!!!!!!To be totally honest with you, I am not sure what compelled me to do this. My friends and family are so surprised, because this is not me at all. I have always hidden my true feelings. I never want to hurt anyone's feelings, to the point of compromising mine. In the last few years, seeing what happens if you don't stand up when you see or hear something that is wrong, I just felt the need to honestly give my opinion to someone who I did not agree with, but I did it privately because I did not want to embarrass Otter, I do respect people.Thank you, toTupelo for wanting me to stay on the boards, but I truly think it is time for me to leave. God bless you all and I wish only good things for all of you, Kathy

    http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/01/anderson-cooper-wallops-bachmann-for-flunking-history-with-diversity-comments-video.php

Bachman rewrites history.  A perfect example of free speech .. with consequences.  She had her facts all wrong, but was quite free to spout them anyways.

I'm posting this Bachman link because I cannot stand the way she rewrites history and has no knowledge of the birth of our nation.

I don't 'hate' Bachman, but her free speech is a little dangerous in that she shows to be completely lacking in our history, but yet purports to know what she is talking about.

What's even more distressing is that there might have been NO ONE in the audience who knew her facts were wrong.  Even I, a non-American, could have told you that!  No wonder President Obama wants to focus on education!

She has one of the worst ratings for "Liar, liar, pants on fire" flagrant distortions of the truth, and has absolutely no qualms about spreading those lies.  She follows that tenet that if you say it loudly and say it often, you will invent your own version of the truth.

Bachman had so many of her 'facts' wrong, and I wonder what kind of history lesson she was passing on to others who erroneously believed everything she said.

That woman is in desperate need of a U.S. history class.  She said the founding fathers (Washington and Jefferson) were against slavery.  Did she forget that part where they were both slaves owners.

I guess with free speech being so free and all, she's more than free to rewrite history any way she sees fit to appeal to her audience.  And it makes you wonder just how educated her audience might be.

And for some unknown reason, this woman feels competent to give a rebuttal to the SOTU tonight.

    Bren

PS .. I swear, I'd rather listen to the Grizzly Mama make up words.  At least that's entertaining.

Otter, since you are being so very decent and the bible-thumping self-server (oops, excuse me, we can't confirm or deny it was she, can we, hee, hee - I am laughing with you, not at you) wants to look good by being oh, so honest, let's be really annoying. You are taking the high road. I will take the low road because what I am witnessing is appalling. Please forgive my shockability. And sarcasm. Recently, an event I witnessed brought to my mind the importance of not staying silent in the face of misbehavior of a certain kind. I am sick of the way some very nice sisters on this forum have been treated recently.

Prihode, how do we know it's really you who sent Otter the PMs?

    Can you prove it?

How about cutting and pasting your message?

Since you stand by what you say with the Book at your side, I am sure you will have no objection to all of us seeing what an objectionable person Otter is? It could expand your following.

Or are you just bibling it away (why are indecent acts always accompanied by references to the bible by those who perpetrate them? For the record, the indecent act is slander in this case). If you want an honesty prize, you're not getting it from everyone here. There are times when things really are best left unsaid. Cyberbullying, whether by PM or in the open, is inexcusable. There is no bigness to your claim of authorship.

I am really looking forward to watching the SOTU tonight.  I can't wait to watch Bachman's response.  I would love to see a Bachman/Palin or Palin/Bachman ticket for 2012.  One can only dream.
