Hi, everyone! I'm glad I can share this with you...

Have you heard of someone who went in for lumpectomy and the margins did not came back clear. My friend has a stage I, 0 lymph nodes involved, but the margins did not come back clear even after the second surgery. Now her surgeon is scheduling her for a third operation which would be a mastectomy with reconstruction. She is stage I, ER-, PR-, HER-. Also, chemotherapy is to follow. Has this happened to anyone?

Thanks in advance, and I wish all of you a healthy summer.

Valentina

    Hi Valentina,

sorry you have to be posting here for your friend but you have come to the right place... I personally did not have a lumpectomy, I had a mastectomy for this reason.  I know that lumpectomys are sucessfull but not always.  I would recomend a second opinion and possible mastectomy for a sound peisce of mind.. gl to your friend and huggs to all!!

Sometimes they can't get a clear margin. If you are 'triple negative', I think chemo is usually recommended even at stage I, because that is really the only thing they can offer to guard against reoccurrence, as anti-hormonal won't be an option. Best of luck to her and you too. Ruth
