My tumor only measures 2.19 positive for Her2. I have one onc who says absolutely do Herceptin and one who is much more hesitant. My feeling is to go for it. I respect the incredible knowledge of everyone on these boards. Ladies, what do you think?

littletower - I think they only are able to check a section of the tumor, could be that other areas are more HER2+ positive.  I think I would go for it.  Are you planning to have chemo?  Usually they do the herceptin with the chemo.  Is your diagnosis year correct, June 2009?

Actually completed chemo one year ago this week. I'm the one pushing for this. From all my research, we should've done it from the get go.

HER2+ and they didn't give you herceptin? Was there some question to your HER2+ status. Did they do the FISH testing to be sure.

Yes, they did the FISH, which said equivocal. But at 2.19 my feeling is to go for it. And equivocal is not negative.

On my report for FISH it says 1.8-2.2 equivocal as you say, <1.8 negative. There is some variability in the estimate so I would go for it.  Do you think your insurance will cover?

littletower, I'm not Her2+, but the onc I had @ UCLA was trained by and works with Dr. Slamon, and I'm wondering if you might interested in talking to her?  I believe Dr, Slamon still consults, too, but I would trust Sara Hurvitz every bit as much, and I'm sure she would consult with him, if necessary.  I don't know where you are or if she does phone consults, but I'd be happy to give you her contact information if you're interested.  I've sent others with unusual cases to her, and they've always reported being happy to finally get an explanation they understood and recommendations they felt confident following.  Just a suggestion...    Deanna

I agree with the Herceptin!  I have been on it for 7 years and it is THE reason why my liver mets have not returned.

Herceptin is a miracle drug!  after one treatment they couldn't feel my tumor (5cm) at all!  6 treatments later I am done with the Tax and Carbo and I only go for Herceptin every 3 weeks...piece of cake!  Denny123...you are so encouraging to me, I too have the liver mets, only one from what they can see, and we a trying to decide if I want to go thru with a liver resection in the spring....risky surgery but if all goes well, I could be considered "cancer free"...the few that have had this done tho had a recurrence.  Don't know if I should go for it or just hope the Herceptin keeps it at bay.  Bus seeing that you are a 7 yr. survivor gives me such hope!

Go for the Herceptin.    It is a mild drug and in my book .. my wonder drug.   I too had liver and bone mets and have been clear for 2 1/2 years.

If you have the opportunity to get Herceptin, TAKE IT.
