Not sure where I belong

Wow, there are so many different forums to choose from that I'm not sure where I belong.  I'm new to this board and just looking for support and to give support to others.

I am now 13 days post-op from a prophylactic skin/nipple sparing double mastectomy.  I have not been diagnosed nor do I carry the BRCA genes, however because my mom was diagnosed in her 30's along with her two sisters being diagnosed in their 30's, I felt like a ticking time bomb at age 34.  My mom & my aunts are all 2x survivors and watching my mom go through the hell of chemo & radiation helped me decide to have this surgery.  Granted, I know that this surgery doesn't mean that I won't ever be diagnosed, but at least it will help decrease my chances.

Going through this surgery and recovery has been rough (although nothing like chemo/radiation), I am at peace with my decision.  I am hoping to find a network of support here since it can sometimes be so laboring to explain to people WHY I chose this.

 Hugs to all!

    Hello LuvingRN!

    Welcome. Smile

There is a section for those who have surgery that you may find comfortable with. Take your time to look around and find areas where you feel comfortable with.

a while back mistyj started a thread called 'a home for pbm' or something like that. it may have been in the lcis threads. you can always start a thread yourself, maybe under the surgery heading or high risk heading? I'll join you there!
