dbdaze I am so proud of you that you get on that elliptical every day even with the dreary weather!  I will think about you when I catch myself using wet grey weather as an excuse!

This morning DH and I got out and walked in the fog...although I have to say I was not feeling like doing it, it was actually pretty nice to be out!  It was quite cool at first, but I feel like my skin just loved all that humidity.  I will go to pilates this afternoon, too.  Ab work isn't all that bad as long as someone is making me do it!  Lord knows I would not do it on my own!

    Have a great day, all!

Hi everyone!  And hi to Debbie, welcome!

I got home last night after a 3-day in the Bay Area (DH was working Sun/Mon so I decided to get outta dodge and go with), we followed each other in both cars and talked via walkie-talkie).  It was 71 degrees there on Saturday, I just stood outside facing the sun saying 'OMG the air is so soft and it just feels so perfect', then dinner with friends (as we toasted another girlfriend in Buffalo who is passing away any day now from non-hodgkin lymphoma...very sad), we told stories and shared memories, it was bittersweet.  Then as DH went to work on Sunday, I went for a hike!  Hundreds of people on the trails and let me tell you, my legs were shaky when I finished an hour later!! Then off to the mall to have lunch with my DD (who looked fabulous), then dinner with DH.  Then yesterday my girlfriend joined me and we hiked further, we were huffin and puffin but we did it!  An hour and a half, must have been 5-6 miles.  Then I bought new tennies/socks at a running store, we lunched and then I stopped to say bye to my DD at the mall again before heading home to the soupy fog!  YUK!!!!!!!  So gray and dreary here....WAHH!!

Oh!!!!!!  DH brought out the instruction poster for our universal gym and showed me how to use it!  We did a routine Saturday before we left, and I will make a chart or something to make myself accountable for using it!

Springie, you INSPIRED me with your weight machine talk!!  I am going to do the machine after work!  I'm feeling pretty jazzed.  I also have to call in my Groupon for that exercise place I bought for.

My DD just called...she is having real contractions every 20 min.  Joy, maybe you are right that the 18th is a good day (also cause its YOUR Birthday!  Happy Birthday Joy).  DD had acupuncture yesterday to help the process, hope this is the real thing!!

Deanna, ouchie, I keep my purse at my feet too!  duly noted as well.

    Keep moving!!

Krystle is now at the hospital, she will keep me posted, they have to check her out.  I'm supposed to pick up her doggies after work.  It will just be her and my SIL in the room, but I want to be right outside the room!!

Yes, Spring, I will go very slow!!!!!!!!!  I've learned lately a little lesson in being all gung ho! LOL

Springtime: you are so fricken consistent and faithful with your daily workouts, you leave me NO wiggle room for messing up.  YOU are my inspiration!  So now, I guess, the pressure is on you.  lol

Kari: A baby how exciting!  My daughter was supposed to deliver her baby BEFORE I left for NOLA Stage 1 -- I was to be her coach. Like you, we waiting and waited -- finally had to go to NOLA.  Got a phone message and pic during my pre-op with Dr S that our grandbaby arrived!   Best wishes for a fast, easy birth

Suzanne:  A brisk walk in the cold actually sounds good to me.  Unfortunately our cold has turned to heavy rains -- certainly not something I'm interested in walking in!

Day 18 and the elliptical and I are as tight as ever!

    dbdaze-keep up the good work!

Springtime, the elliptical at home isn't so bad, as long as you can play your music as loud as you want. Smile

    Happy Wednesday everyone.

I love listening to audiobooks on my ipod...so I have made a "rule" that says I can only listen while I am doing something physical.  I have found that I am willing to go a little farther just to find out what happens next.  i have often thought that someone should invent a treadmill-powered TV...we would be the fittest nation in the world if that caught on, eh?

    Best wishes Kari!!  YAY!

Krystle just called.  Her water just broke.  They sent her home last night after giving her a shot of Demerol, which let her sleep for 3 hours.   But each time she dozed off, she'd have a killer contraction.  I'm still at work now, I work 3 min. from hospital, told her to keep me posted.  She's headed to hospital now.

Yeah Kari! keep us posted.Bet you don''t get much work done now.  My Dd let me sleep till 10 am this morning. Guess I really needed it. Going to yoga this afternoon and visit a friend in the hospital and then off to dinner. Tomorrow a facial that I won several months ago and forgot about.

DS is home from KS and missing his girls. I got to talk to my future grandkids the other day and loved it. So sweet. They haven't set a date yet but will let you know when I find out.  I'm going to enjoy my two days off and then I start back on days.

Praying that things go quickly & smoothly this morning for Krystle & baby, Kari!  I will be checking back for news!

Glad your DS is so happy, Joy.  Sounds like he's found a neat lady & family, and it's great that you are so much a part of their lives already.  And enjoy the facial!   What a treat!

I'm still hobbling around a bit -- walking's okay, but bending my knees is still pretty painful.  I'm thinking this will be a 10-minute rule day (easing back into exercise), after I get some other things done.

Have a great day, everyone!    Deanna

The baby is coming! The baby is coming! Kari, we all send our best to Krystle! I bet Kari is at the hospital right now! OM Goodness!

OK reporting in! Yesterday, the 10 minute rule saved my butt. At 9PM I got on the elliptical saying I'll do at least 10 min and did 30 minutes! Today was 90 min yoga (though at least 15 of that is shevatena (or however you spell it! The deep relaxation!)

Tomorrow, Weights at gym and cardio. Thursday! Close to weekend!

Joy, fun about your new grand kids! :) I be you will be a super cool Grandma.

I keep thinking about the baby!! Oh my!

Oh Deanna!! I just read about your fall -- so sorry that happened!! Take care of those knees and don't overdo it (even the 10-minute rule might be a bit much for now)!

    Suzanne,

I have found that I am willing to go a little farther just to find out what happens next.  i have often thought that someone should invent a treadmill-powered TV...we would be the fittest nation in the world if that caught on, eh?

I recently bought the first season of the show "Mad Men" and only allow myself to watch it while I'm on Stairmaster -- you're right, it's such a good motivator! That's also the idea behind the Wii game "Walk It Out"... it's like a video game where you have to keep going for a certain number of steps etc. to unlock interesting new scenery and other fun things. I've been a Stairmaster fiend lately so I haven't used it as much, but the concept of tying exercise to interesting things is definitely a winning idea!

Okay, girls, I bought a new gadget that is turning out to be a great motivator for me... a Bodybugg. Does anyone have one? It was a splurge, but I found a great deal on eBay for a new one.

For anyone who doesn't know what it is, it's a device you wear on your arm that basically measures your caloric burn. (Not just basal metabolism but it uses several other variables.) It has a little device that you can clip to your clothes or wear as a wrist watch that tells you exactly how many calories you've burned so far that day so you know how many more you have to burn. I love seeing how many calories I burn during various kinds of workouts. It really is surprisingly motivating for me, even as far as keeping my diet in line!

Julia ~ The Bodybugg sounds like a great tool!!  I will look into that.  Oooooh Mad Men...I would be VERY compelled to stay on the stairclimber for that!  You go girl!

I wonder if there's a new baby yet!

The ten minute rule saved my butt again last night!

I did all the weights at the gym during a break from work. Then planned to do elliptical in the evening. at9PM I was still not on it! so I suggested we watch "The Good Wife" that we had DVR'd. I thought, I can do this for 10 minutes, maybe I'll get up to 30. I did 45 minutes!! It was a good workout, and I was so into the show, I hardly noticed it! ha!

Julia, good job on only watching Mad Men on the Stairmaster!

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile.  Since I got back from that cruise, I've been busy with my mother in law, taking her to physical therapy.  She broke her wrist the day before Thanksgiving.

I just finished 30 minutes on that elliptical torture machine!

    Good to see you, ladies!

Finally checking in on this site!!!!!!  Its been a crazy 3 days and today back to work!

Krystle is recuperating.  After 51 hours of labor (long story), she had a c-section yesterday morning (she also had a fever of 101.5 Wed. night, which is the cutoff for the docs, meaning now the baby is assumed to have an infection and was whisked off to the NICU for 3 days to be given IV antibiotics).  I finally got to go down and see her yesterday, first with my SIL and then with Krystle around noon.  Krystle shocked the nurses by getting up and into a wheelchair within 5 hours of her c-section, but she was motivated to see her baby!  She CRIED for quite awhile when she finally got to see her, she just couldn't believe how blessed she is.  Baby Savannah Addison weighed a whopping 8 lbs 4.3 oz / 21.5 in and was born at 7:01 a.m. on 1-20-11.  My DH saw her this a.m. for the first time on his way back into town, and he's as much in love with her as I am!!

I stayed all day yesterday and Wed. at the hospital, and conked out last night at 7pm!  I'm still tired; geez I am a grandma! haha  No exercise for me though!!  I could use a massage, but I will get some exercise in this weekend.  Thinking of you gals!!

Love, love, love, proud and beaming Grammy K

    Happy Saturday nite and Sunday.

Congratulations Kari! That is one long labor!! I am so glad everybody is okay. I had a long labor with my first one and also ran a fever. But what a blessing right!! Congrats again! You are hands down the youngest looking Grammy I have ever known!! :)

No exercise Friday - but we went to the Normal Rockwell exhibit at the local museum, so ti was worth it! My day off for the week I guess! Yesterday and today I did weights at the gym and Sat 45 min on the bike at the gym (that was a bit over 13 miles it said) and today 45 min on the elliptical at home.  A good week for exercise!

That baby sure is my motivator!!  Got to spend 5 hours Saturday with Krystle and baby.  They all went home yesterday and some meltdowns as they all get acquainted!!

I used my Groupon for my exercise class yesterday and BOY am I SORE today! :)  I have one more session that I booked for next Sunday.  I haven't been to a class in many years.  It was a Pilates-Yoga-Ballet Bar workout for 60 TOUGH minutes!  2 older ladies have been taking the class for 3 months and they each high-fived me and said I did good.  But I had to stop a lot of the time!  Too many reps and very painful, I felt like rubber! haha  I went to Whole Foods after and wandered around and treated myself to a healthy dinner, then screwed that up with some chocolate after, and it wasn't dark chocolate-UGH!  I also did a 40 minute walk and then I was just DONE!

So I checked into the regular pricing for that exercise place, and its WAY out of my price range, so I will enjoy the next workout and try and remember the stuff we do!!!!

Walked a brisk 30 minutes on my lunch hour today!
