to make it short nd sweet...I had my CN iopsy which showed invasive tuular/DCIS....lumpectomy biop came ack CLEAR!

Dr is baffled.

said perhaps since it was on about 6mm that it was all removed during CNB or that they incorrectly placed the wire marker.

He has pathology working furiosly to have a result y Tomorrow ahead a oc/rad meeting wednesday morning.

Have any of you had this happen?

My breast and sentinal node scar hurts so bad that i can not imagin going in for more removal.

Ultrasound and possible MRI will be done on wed. morning to try to *find* it again.

I am so disappointed.

Did they mix up biopsies? My path report came back so messy. They said "lumpectomy" when in fact I had a mastectomy. Do they have mammo or u/s to show how large the area of dcis/idc was? Do you have a copy? Your 6mm area should be documented on the scans. If it is more than that than maybe they missed the correct area. Wow... how frustrating. Pls post again to let us know how they resolved this.

On this board I've seen other situations where the entire area of cancer was removed during the needle biopsy and no more cancer was found in the lumpectomy sample.  As carcharm said, if the area of concern on your mammo and/or ultrasound films looked small, then it's entirely possible that the biopsy got it all.  However if the area of concern looked large, then this would be less likely.  Of course if the area of concern was larger, it would be strange and unlikely that they would have put the marker in the wrong place.

Hopefully this is good news and your area of cancer was very small.

    Hi Ladies...and thanks :)

I have a terribly dense fibrocystic breast. I can easily imagine they incorrectly placed the wire marker but the dr can't imagine that not 1 single cell showed on lumpectomy.

Tomorrow am at 11:00 we start all over again. Thing is, I was supposed to meet with the radiologist from another hospital as a group meeting to schedule my rads....now that is all on hold.

Tomorrow he will *hunt* for the cells.....how crazy.

I will post back for sure.

    xoxoxo

I think I am in the same boat as you.  Pathology shows no cancer in area removed.  Dr. is waiting to see if Pathology saw any indication/scar tissue from biopsy which was done in December.  If not, they got the wrong area and I assume I will be back in for her to "hunt" for the cells.
