    mfrog, do you REALLY want to see what freedom of speech "looks" like?  Please don't let the title of the article scare you away.  Scroll down a bit and listen to what some have said over the air waves.  You don't have to watch the entire video.  And, the words are coming from their OWN mouths...no editing.

    Gold is volatile and its value depends on the market.  Ten years ago, some gold mines in CA were shut down because it wasn't worth the cost to dig it up. 

    Right now, Treasury securities are the safest and most conservative investment there is, which is why so many local governments are required to purchase them.

    Shirley:  These are the same problems I have brought up on other posts.  There are people who will listen and others who prefer to stick their heads in the sand and pretend "all is well with the US".  I have your same concern and have gotten into several fights with people who don't want to hear the truth.  Soooooo I try to protect my family for the future as best I can and pray that nothing I fear will happen. As for Social Security, I truly don't believe it is going to be there for our children and especially any grandchildren so parents need to find a way to make sure their children have some protection for the future.  Not all companies provide pensions or even allow people to work up to their pension age.  It's a game they play.  We got axed due to this and I think many others will to.

    As for your video.  I am for "Freedom of Speech" but it has gone too far, in some instances, in this country.  No one should have the right to go on air and say the horrible things that are being allowed to be said.  They are feeding "sick" mines and encouraging deranged people to go out and act upon their words.  You and I know it's all political vitrol but a deranged mine doesn't have the capacity to understand that.  I think blaming just one side for this is wrong!  More and more people on so called news programs are either saying these things or replaying what others have said over and over.  This is NOT a good thing considering who may be listening to them.

    Hang in there Shirley.  It may seem impossible to get people to listen to the truth but we have to keep trying.

    I don't know why some Americans are complaining about what's being said about Palin (justified or not).  It's freedom of speech American-style in all it's glory that they love so much.  Can't have it both ways.  Telling posters to stop whining is stomping on their freedom of speech.  Funny how the concept is convenient only some of the time.

    Edit to add:  And I think horrific things have been said on BOTH sides.

    As far as BCO goes, we're guests here and our speech is limited by their rules.  However, anyone can start a new website and have all the freedom of speech they want.  You can set your own rules on your own website.  I don't think the rules re freedom of speech on BCO are out of line.

    I think the BCO rules are very fair and correct.  Play nice.  But we all get riled up at times --  it's human nature.  It would be dull if we were always sugar and spice and everything nice.  Had to throw in a food thing.  :-)

    Bren:  You don't think the rules on BCO are out of line?  Actually, I would not either, if the people who ran it played by their own rules.  Personally, I find that no matter how hard we may try to follow the "rules" things can be handled very unfairly on here as I think it recently was.  All I want is to be told "what" I did to have a post or posts deleted and it seems we are not allowed to know.  Rules are ok but "rights" are better, imo.

    Medigal .. I think that rights and rules go hand in hand.  I don't know why you haven't heard back about a deleted post.  I had a couple deleted from the 'deletees' thread and I know I didn't say anything out of line.  It might be a case of we'll never know what happened.  In the case of the 'deletees' thread, I believe most of that one particular conversation was deleted.  Near as I can tell.

    I wish you lived closer so you could make me some gumbo!

    E, I still think the SS trust fund is an accounting scam. Being an accountant who moved into IT, it makes me very uncomfortable. If I were their auditor, I would not risk my license and sign off on that.

    Shirley, I'm not sure you understood the point I was trying to make.  If you look at the article, it says that in the US free speech is monitored by the Gov't & investigated by the FBI.  Not really much difference... IMO.

    I love brussel sprouts done with garlic in the oven, but I also have a stir fry recipe for pork with brussel sprouts by Martin Yan that is to die for!

    MFrog- i agree with you...it can be downright scary and foolish to speak your true mind here in the U.S....that is a fact. On travels for work as media I have had numerous occasions for lengthy discussions with agents from various federal agencies...they underscored the truth in that fact. At one event in DC I was joshing around, a gent I had become friendly with...after asking if he was a "g-man"...quietly told me it would probably be better if I kept my comments to myself that he overheard. He was dead serious. He understood where I was coming from (I was defending the U.S. to other journalists from around the world who were chiming in that we were all killers and of course I veered off as I often do and said something to the effect that as a people most of us are as goodhearted as you could want but don't piss off George cause he will hunt you down and kill you"...Now mind you, he had just given a speech at an event that was supposed to be about healing and feeding the world and he had pointed his finger at the audience and said no matter where a terrorist is we will find them and kill them (people from over 50 countries were in the audience)...then one of his advisors rushed up and got him back on track and he started on the speech he was supposed to be giving..ACK! But I paid attention and shut my mouth. You see, the people from all over the world could speak their mind, but myself as an american had to shut up....it really hurt my heart and scared me in a way that has never left.Guess what? I am ALMOST nervous writing this...but what the hell. After BC, what's a little tax audit?

    Annette, a tax audit is a HUGE PITA!!! The real problem is the Dept of Homeland Security. These guys have such broad-based power that in the 'interest of national security' they have a broad brush to do pretty much whatever they want AND no fear of repercussion if they make a mistake.

    IMO, creating yet ANOTHER government agency was a huge waste of money and each agency (DHS, FBI, CIA) guards its information like a lion guards its kill. Right, they are mandated to 'share'. Doesn't happen. I don't see DHS making us any more secure.

    Bachman is also calling for a tea party caucus in the House.

    It's seems to me that the tea party is really dividing the republicans. IMO. Great for dems though .. hope the tea party has the candidate for the 2012 elections.  The tea party only makes up about 12% of the population.

    LEWING:  Bless you my child for knowing the way to my heart!!  But wait!  Are they PICKLED??  I have to have the toes still on too.  Nothing like starting the day off chewing on a huge batch of PICKLED pigs feet!  And only 99 cents a pound?? Right!  Where did you find them in some back hills of Louisiana?  I cannot believe you found these delicious chewy morsels in any store in Michigan.  I think Louisville is to "horty toity" for pigs feet!   You know Lew if I had more friends like you to find my pigs feet for me, I would spend less time in my back bedroom crying even with the Arimidex!  Thank you for bringing the sunshine into my stinky little basement apt.  Now I can just pretend I am enjoying my "true" lunch today.  If I were still Catholic I would try to have you canonized or whatever they do to "good people".  But no church wants me so I have to just pretend I am canoning you!  "St. Lewing of the Pickled Pigs Feet"  Tongue out

    These little piggy feets aren't pickled, but I can't imagine that someone as resourceful as you couldn't manage some home pickling!  And no, I didn't sneak down to Louisiana.  These juicy little morsels are from center city Detroit.  A lot Detroiters - black and white - have Southern roots, so the farmer's market here is well provisioned with Southern delicacies: mountains of greens, scuppernong grapes in season, chow chow relish . . . and, of course, pigs feet.  And what a bargain at 99 cents a pound! 

    Not-so-saintly Lewing devoutly hopes there's no crying in the back bedroom today.

    Ewwwwwww.  Added this to the reasons why I don't eat meat by choice (I am a polite dinner guest though).  I eat chicken, because they're almost vegetables.  They weren't the smartest critters on our farm...that's my vegetable reasoning.  And I don't eat fish, I think of them as pets (I had goldfish once).  But ewwwwwwww!!  Aren't those little piggie snouts in the pic too?
