Oncotype testing
I have been reading a lot about this test and it is available in the province I live in Ontario.
I know you have to be er+ pr+ and node free to get this test done, which I am.
My tumor was 5.5 cm and I have had a UMX on Dec 23rd.
Has anyone had this test done? How about someone from Ontario?
I am scared of Chemo, I'll admit it. If I do not have to have it I would do a backflip with happiness.
Thanks,
Trish

I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and I actually asked about the oncotype test. The nurse navigator told me that because the test is so expensive, over $4000, they send off samples only when there is a grey area of how your treatment should proceed. My concern was that they would hold on to tissue samples and not throw them away. But she reassured me that all tissue samples are saved.
I have mucisnous carcinoma which is a type of IDC. So far I know that I am ER and PR positive. My axillary node under my arm was negative. MRI only showed the one tumor in my right breast. I have decided on a bi-lat. mast. with no reconstruction. My surgery is this Thursday and I'm praying so hard for a negative SNB and negative nodes!
I'm right there with you. Chemo scares me so much! I've been looking at wig sites and head coverning sites, you name it, I've looked.
When you meet with your oncologist I would definitely ask him/her about the oncotype test. Hopefully you'll be eligible for it

Hi NJ,
Where do you live? In Canada? Believe it or not I have not even met with an oncologist! I just got back from a week in Cuba and expected a message from the Sudbury cancer center but nada! I am looking forward to seeing if I have no cancer any where else in my body. I have not even had a chest Xray which they can do in here in the town I live in. Getting really frustrated and will be making some calls on Monday.
I prayed hard for negative nodes as well but was not hopeful due to the size of my tumour. I was relieved by the good news.
I can't bring myself to look at wig sites. When I am in Sudbury they have a store right at the cancer center so I'll have a look, who knows I might even like some of them :-)
All the best to you and the SNB test.

Hi Trish. My breast surgeon told me prior to my surgery that I will need chemo due to my tumor size. Not sure if the criteria is different or the same in Canada but the test may not be necessary for you because of the tumor size as well. I could be wrong though.

Hi Letlet,
I have already had my surgery. My entire left booby is gone and I am left with a horrific scar. I dream of reconstruction.
I know the tumour size maybe a factor but I have yet to read that on the web sites regard oncotype testing.
