Hi ladies,  I know there's been so much discussion regarding Tamoxifen and weight gain.  I've been taking Tamox. for 2.5 years and have gained 20 lbs since pre bc.  I'm 45 yrs old, very active working out 4-5 days/week.  My diet isn't always perfect, when I crave something I usually give in and eat it :(  I've never been one to have to "diet" but now I'm going to have to do something...I'm uncomfortable and bummend out!  I'm thinking of joining Weight Watchers.  Does anyone on Tamoxifen been successful with WW?

I can't speak for losing weight on Tamoxifen since I was able to decline it, but one thing I wanted to mention is that when one hormone is off-kilter (e.g. estrogen being suppressed), it can throw other hormones out of balance, and various hormones play a role in how easily you're able to lose or maintain weight (cortisol, melatonin, etc.). If you're exercising 4-5 days a week and the weight still isn't coming off, I wonder if there might be a hormone issue going on. It might be worth seeing an endocrinologist or (even better IMO) a naturopath who specializes in hormone balance to see if there's something there that should be corrected.

On the positive side, I know a LOT of women (including BC survivors) who have had great success on WW, so it's definitely worth trying!

I am right there with you! I gained 15 pounds while on chemo and am not looking forward to starting tamoxifen and the possibility of weight gain there too!! Of course, I did not have the energy to work out or do any exercise which did not help.  I am going to start walking again and maybe add the wii as needed before I head back to the gym. I really need to motivate myself get going!!!

Thank you ladies for your replies.  I talked to a trainer yesterday and he said, basically for women going through memopause we need to really watch ourr food intake and make it clean eating as much as possible.  Because unfortunatly we all know that Tamox making our bodies feel like we're going thru menopause.  Personally for me, if I cut out sugar, white breads and alcohol I can lose some weight.  It's just that I can't get the motivation to do this...I'm sharing a personal trainer 3 x week with a group of girls and it really helps get me to the gym...now if I could get someone to cook all my meals (healthfully) I'd be in business ;)

Tiff - yes, they are! I took that photo when they were just 8.5 weeks old... now they're two and are much bigger (but still just as cute, sweet, and hilarious)! Congrats on your new "baby"... you will love him or her!!
