I AM Freaking Out!!!!

Hey sisters,

It's been a long time since I have posted here. But that does not mean that I dont have you warriors on my mind and especially in my prayers:)

Here is what is freaking me OUT!! I was in a friends wedding on Jan 1 and of course we stood in heels that day that absolutely killed my feet. Ever since that day my back has been giving me trouble. It feels like there is a knot right in the middle and sometimes I get these weird spasms as well. It really doenst hurt unless I am sitting or bending and Tylenol takes the pain away. I will be honest though it seems like my joints bones are reaking more often or more noticeably. I am soooooo afraid that I havenot called my onc or anything yet.  Al of my joints seem to be in pain and I am very tired.I just had spinal ex rays in AUgust after an accident that showed degenerative at the L3 and 4(?) not sure, but nothing else.  I had a clear CT scan in September as well. Also one more piece of this puzzle sometimes at night when I sleep on my back my hands go numb/ sightly. I am terrified of whats going on in my body. Has anyone experienced mets that progressed like this? It's like I am constantly on the lookout for a terrorist. Thanks for letting me rant girls!!!!

    Southern Diva,

I am so sorry that no one has responded to your post.  Are you on Tamoxifen or one of the AIs, like Arimidex?  They can definitely cause joint pain, but I don't know about the other stuff.  The way I see it, calling up the Oncologist when you are concerned and the symptoms don't go away makes so much sense.  First and foremost, if it is something else causing the problem, you've spent a lot of time worrying about it and shouldn't have.  But, if it is cancer-related, then it has to be addressed and treated.  I know it's scary; we all do, because we are going through this too.  Please go get it checked; it could be nothing.

    Hugs

    Hello Suthern,

My husband also has degenerative disk disease in his lumbar disks, and unfortunately there is a wide array of problems that can stem from that.  So far it has led to osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis in the disks, and now after 15 years a little sciatic nerve issue has cropped up causing tremendous nerve spasms from back to heel.  I do know that back problems can cause pinching or damage to the nerves, causing numbness or pain in the arms or legs.  I would check with your primary doctor first for this, I think that mets usually present in the hands first, or at any rate on a smaller scale.  The trick with the back is to have it looked at sooner rather than later, so you don't cause more irritation or damage.  When in doubt, call the doctor!  Fear and worry are bad for you, it's far better to get it checked and know what you're dealing with (or not dealing with!)

Please let me know how it turns out for you.

    Hugs,

    Sue

Check with your onco and push for a Bone scan and MRI.  You could also have a stress fracture since all our treatments are bone depleting.  I have a broken sacrum that has not healed in over a year and the MDs are talking about doing a sacroplasty (gluing it together).  I was terrified of bone mets - which do not usually show up in the hands as the other writer said, but show up in the spine and ribs.  Good luck to you.  Keep us posted.

    Hi Ladies,

I had a bone scan and a CT scan of the area done on yesterday and everything is normal. I have osteoarthritis. Again I never thought that at 34 I would be glad to hear that I have arthritis. Thanks for all of your support:)

Great news!  It is funny how BC puts things like arthritis in perspective, huh?

And what about your neck? After an accident and tingling in the hands would start at the neck.

Also, the pain radiates so you can't really tell where it's coming from. I had two damaged disks in my neck and the x-rays didn't show it, the mri did, but the doc went over it so fast that HE missed it. When he 'discovered' it 3 months later i was so pissed and there was NO way I was going to let him do surgery. Took my MRI and went to a neurologist who recommended surgery... That was a YEAR from the accident. If you continue to hurt, then continue to push for help.

    Good luck.
