Shoud it take this long
I am 44 years old I just had a mammorgam and ultra sound on the 31st of Dec and i just saw my Dr. Monday and she is sending me to Breast Cancer Doctor. They found 3 lumps in my left breast. My appointment is not till the 31st of Jan, god it's going to fell like a life time. I am afraid!!! I have not left my office in my home for 2 days now I can not stop thinking about it. My spouse is in denial not thinking of it till then. I can not do that... just talking with some one would help I think.

This is an anxious time. I know that once you are given the diagnosis, you feel like treatment should begin NOW! But I think your wait time is pretty typical. I got my results 6/28/10, bilateral mastectomy on July 26th. I think the only thing that sped it up that much was that I was already an established patient with my breast surgeon, and I was proactive and made an appointment with her once I was told I had to go back for cone compression views. There is a great book that my breast surgeon gave me.....it's called "Just Get Me Through This". You can order it online at amazon.com for $10.00 if you are not given any info at the appointment on 1/31....that book along with this website helped me immensely! It's all kind of a hurry up and wait process.....so hang tough!

Mainline .. you can talk to us! Lots of support and information for you too.
It's so awful to have to wait. The worry can be so overwhelming. I would suggest some Ativan if your doctor will prescribe it for you. It's not unusual to have to wait a couple of weeks to see the specialist.
Please stay in touch with us ... we'll help you however we can.
hugs,
Bren

Dear Mainline,
I realize your sense of urgency, I felt the same way when I found a lump. My family practice doctor referred me to a surgeon and I had to wait for two weeks to see the surgeon the first time. We are advised to seek treatment immediately for lumps. The fact is that most types of breast cancer are slow growing and waiting a couple of weeks to see the breast specialist won't make any difference in the outcome for you. If you can feel the lumps then I'd check them daily and if you notice that they are growing, very unlikely, then I would call the breast cancer doctor's office and tell them that. Today most cases of breast cancer are treated and then one goes on with one's life, bc is not the death sentence the way it use to be many years ago. Please let us know how you proceed. You could also join us in the breast cancer chat room in the mean time for support.
