Yes, my sleeve is a Class I.  Pilling of the Juzo glove is certainly an issue - even the edge or hem of the fingers do this and makes the glove quickly look old and worn.

Sher, the microfine glove by Farrow is class I so it will be the same compression as your sleeve.

I don't think you will have any problems with that.

So, either a Juzo soft, dream sleeve, Lymphedivas ebony or Jobst black sleeve, class I, should be a perfect combo with the Farrow glove.

Hi all,  I got new custom garments yesterday that were fit by a new person who is also a LTx. (I was measured by my old fitter and I am still waiting for garments ... )  Anyways, these are barton-carey. They have a very different texture than previous garments I have had (medi 95, mediven custom, jobst custom, juzo sleeve ....).   At the wrist, the sleeve seems quite loose -- not exactly baggy, but certainly not snug as it is in other places.  Has anyone had Barton-Carey products?  Are they supposed to be loose-r? My LTx is out of town for a week, so I'd love your input ... KS1

I got some fabric samples from Barton Carey a while back. As I recall, their fabric is similar to Gottfried's --  much lighter wieght and less elastic-y than the the Medi/Juzo type circular knits and much, much lighter than the Juzo/Elvarex flat knit fabric.  Yes?  So the fit would need to be pretty precise. I would guess baggy at the wrist is not good - but if the wrist of your glove provides compression over that area you might be okay.   ??

(PS: a personal thumbs down for Bio-Concepts.  (They also have a light fabric.) I received a custom sleeve from them that creased so deeply, and fit so poorly, it probably would have damaged my heathly arm, let alone my LE arm.  Despite the words on their website about wanting to "make it happen," etc., they charge for any correction/alteration.  I threw that sleeve away and learned a lesson.)

PPS:  thepinkbra.com is another website with good prices and 30 day return for readymade sleeves/gloves/gauntlets

What website did you order the new microfine gloves from?  I want to make sure I order the new longer finger ones.  Do you find that the measurements given for each size are accurate? KS1

QUESTION:   I know what Andrea Cheville says about the importance of hand compression.  Is there anyone here who has arm swelling but no hand swelling and who wears a sleeve without a glove or gauntlet?  Do all you glove wearers get hand swelling?

I ordered my gloves from http://www.lymphedemaproducts.com/products/farrowwrap-microfine-glove.html

The website does not have the choice of black listed, but if you telephone them, it is available in black, copper and tan.

I ordered a small because I had tried on several sizes of samples Dr. Fu had, and the small was a good fit.

I measured my hand by the chart http://www.lymphedemaproducts.com/cdsizing/farrow_glove_chart.html  and fell within the extra small and the small.

Ninja, I never get hand or finger swelling, but wear gauntlets everyday and gloves for flying.

One night I wrapped, skipping my hands, and the next morning I had fluid in the space between my thumb and index finger--I had an appointment with my therapist that morning, and she had a fit and told me never to wrap excluding my hand, and never to wear my sleeves without hand protection.

    Insurance.

    Ladies,

With regards to the gloves, you are welcome. The only glove we are having difficulty getting is the full fingered Microfine gloves in black; we do have the half fingered in black. I'm not sure how long it will take to secure the long fingered black gloves yet.

We also have a new gauntlet available, that comes with high quality foam that can be attached to the gauntlet to compress any dorsal hand edema. I think you will find it very durable and flexible. You can see a picture of it on our website: www.farrowmedical.com, press on picture #4 on the right side to see the picture and description.

Let me know if I can help in any other way.

Barry, is this the half-fingered glove?

Will you be making a glove with the fingers entirely covered?

    OneBadBoob,

What you have posted is the half finger version.  I am working on getting a long fingered version, but don't have a definitive date presently.

     Happy New Year!

Hi Barry,   Thank you so much for making the length of the fingers longer on the Farrow glove. I've only been using the Farrow for a week, but all in all, so far it seems considerably better than the dozen or so I have tried or bought (including 4 customs).  Is the full-finger version available in any color at this point?  Also, has your company ever considered making a sleeve to match?  Best,  KS1

I just got my farrow microfine glove. It is really comfortable and I did ask for the longer fingers. They reach half of my nail bed, would you believe it? Much more freedom of movement for the fingers. Now if they only do the trick and keep my hand from swelling, I will be most grateful. If a person has to wear these stupid garments for the rest of our lives at least if they are not so constricting and are at least a little comfortable it is more much more bearable. I had resigned myself to being uncomfortable and hating the very sight of my glove, ( the sleeve is not so bad,I kinda feel naked with out it ) but the glove was awful. i do wish though that it would match my sleeve better. My sleeve is a little darker, but for the winter nobody sees it because of the long sleeves. maybe by summer a darker one will be available. Not into the colors yet. I'm 66 and sort of set in my ways, I don't have to be fashionable any more, I just want to be comfortable and if somebody doesn't like it, well too bad. Just thought I would  let everyone know my expierence so far. Usually I just lurk on the boards and don't post too much.  Sharon

Sharon, thank you! So far these Farrow gloves seem to have a very high approval rating!Smile Keep us posted as you discover how effective they are for you, please. The more we share, the easier it is to make (expensive!Surprised) decisions about garments.

    Be well!

Hi all - I've been using primarily a copper long-fingered extra small Farrow glove for the past 2.5 weeks.  My overall impression remains very positive.  It is sleek, the seams are very fine and the fabric is soft  and supple.  The material is thin enough that I can wear gloves (including medical  examination gloves) over it .  A very impressive glove indeed!  The extra small copper glove fits me well and provides good compression.  With the exception of the ring finger which falls short of the nail bed, all of the fingers are perfect in length.

The one thing I have noticed is that, over the course of the day, the fingers of the Farrow glove stretch out a bit.  The copper glove returns to its original shape with washing, so I ordered a second glove (in beige) with the plan of putting on a freshly washed glove every 4 or 5 hours. When the beige glove arrived, the fit was noticeably looser than the copper glove throughout the hand, but particularly in the 4 fingers from the PIP joint to the top.  I called Barry Creighton at Farrow and he was extremely nice.  He said that the copper and beige gloves are made at different factories, and he would look into whether there are any discrepancies between the factories.  I'm exchanging the beige glove for another copper glove.  Hopefully, it will fit the same way as the copper glove.  KS1

KS1... I also noticed that I could put my winter gloves over the farrow glove, an improvement for sure. I always had to wear my muff and it was hard to open the car door, I always had to take it off as I am right handed and have le in my right arm. this is a big plus in the harsh minnesota winters. Hooray. No swelling in the hand last nite, I always check my middle finger by putting on the ring I used to wear on that finger. It slipped right on and off. I am always careful to make sure I don't try to push it on if it is tight, would have a hard time to get it off. I don't wear rings or any jewelry on my right hand or arm, just try it on at night after taking off my sleeve and glove. So far so good. Will still wait a little while before ordering another. One thing I noticed was hand washing... I'm not too fond of that. I just put my sleeves and gloves right in the washer, but put over the shower door to dry. I wonder if I could try washing in gentle cycle. Don't want to ruin it though. Will hand wash for now. Any one wash in machine on gentle cycle?    sharon

Just yestersay received the XS black w half fingers (they don't make black with full fingers yet.)  I have small hands and the fingers reach about to my top knuckles.  Nice, soft fabric and seams - I don't anticipate skin irritation.  I appreciate the length of the wrist (a teeny bit longer would be ideal).  I find most hand garments skimpy at the wrist - can't keep them tucked in (or over) my sleeve without a gap.  I am going to try the full length fingers before I decide if I prefer coverage all the way up to my nails or if I want to cut the fingers down to my lower knuckle.  Can't comment on long-term wear (just long enough to know my finger tips don't turn purple) or hot weather wear yet.  Plan to fly next month and want good hand compression for that.

Hmmm. I wasn't aware they were hand-wash only!Embarassed I've been doing mine with all my other garments in Ivory Snow on gentle, then hanging to dry. Oops!Surprised So far no problem -- still fits and wears beautifully, so I'm not likely to start hand washing now (I'm agin' it!Laughing)

    Hello,

I'm in need of a new pair of gloves and is this the link for the gloves you all are talking about:

    http://www.northamericanrehab.com/store/shop-products/compression-aids/farrow-microfine-trim-to-fittm-glove.html

If not, where is the link?

If so, there is nothing mentioned on the link about black or the long-fingered glove.

Where can I find the glove you all are talking about?  Foot in mouth

    thank you!  Smile

Dawne-Hope, if you scroll up 11 posts above yours, to OneBadBoob's October 27 post, she has a link to the place she bought it, plus instructions on how to get the colored ones (by calling them). Hope that helps!

Onebadboob - Thank you for posting the link to these gloves and also the picture.  Are your fingers short or on the long side?  Mine are long and I thought maybe the full-fingered glove is what I would need ... but the half-fingered version looks like it comes up high on your fingers.

Thanks for all your help, ladies!  It sure does help the ones coming after you!  Smile

Ordered the farrow micro-fine gloves and they are HUGE!

I ordered an extra-small in 'sand' and my extra-small isotoner therapeutic gloves fit me better than these.  I'm really disappointed! Frown

They are soft and I think they would be great if they weren't so big.  I ordered the full finger and they are not full finger on me ... they barely cover the top knuckles of my fingers.

I so wish they came in a smaller and longer size.  I would settle for smaller.  My hands are not an anomaly ... they are on the small side, but not extremely.

    I'll have to return them.

Hi Dawn-Hope,  When I ordered my Farrow gloves from BrightLife.com, I spoke to a person to ensure that I got the longer fingered ones, and not the older, shorter-fingered ones.  I ordered 3 extra small gloves -- 2 in copper and 1 in beige (sand).  The BEIGE extra small pair was much bigger than the copper extra small pairs.  The beige glove was much too loose, but the copper one fits just right.  PM me and I can give you the lot # for the copper gloves and the beige gloves.  KS1

Well, D-H, how disappointing! I wonder if they could have sent you the wrong size. I have smallish hands and the small fits me well, so I can't imagine that an extra-small would be big on nearly anyone!Frown

This garment business is really a hassle, but hang in there -- hopefully third time (or fourth, or fifth, or...Undecided) is a charm!

    Be well,

I just ordered a few of these also (from BrightLife) because I had read KS1's review above.  I like them a lot.  I have small hands and the extra-small fits well.  I wish the "full length" fingers were longer.  The "sand" glove felt a little larger than the "copper" but not much.  But the sand has a really long thumb (which actually works better for me due to an old scar along the top of my thumb that goes numb). Overall, the finger length seemed kind of inconsistent.  Not sure which glove to keep  . . .

I tried one half finger glove too.  It's not very much shorter than the full finger (other than that one thumb). The half fingers are finished at the edges (the full fingers are not.)  I suspect that if you don't trim them, they might last a little longer. ?

KS1 - Thank you!  I ordered mine from Lymphedema Products.  Left a message yesterday and talked to someone today.  We're going to switch them out for the copper gloves.  She was very accomodating.  The Lot # on the sand ones:  Oct 18 2010.

sleeveninja - I agree, the thumb on the sand was very long, the fingers not so much.  Strange, really.

binney - thanks for the encouragement.  We'll see how this goes.  I think I'm going to try the Medivan 95's next.

    Thanks, everyone!

I love the Farrow's long thumb, and also find it to be longer relative to the other fingers.  The ring finger seems short relative to the other fingers, and a tad shorter than ideal for me.  (Given that the fingers are cut-able, if I ran the factory, I would make all of the fingers longer and let people trim as necessary.)

The lot number for the  sand (beige) extra small glove is EXACTLY the same as the lot number for the  sand extra small glove that I found to be too loose.  Here are the lot numbers for the farrow extra small gloves I ordered

Beige (aka sand) extra small (one glove):  October 18, 2010

Copper extra small (2 gloves) November 8, 2010

Barry Creighton seemed genuinely interested in the size inconsistency problem.  Dawn, maybe you could email him and tell him that you also found the beige extra small to be too big.  (Two people are much better than a single person).  Barry's email is:  bcreighton@farrowmedical.com

I just ordered the black and sand farrow gloves through Brightlife.com.  I ordered the small gloves after reading many reviews on this thread on how they tend to run large. The CSR I spoke with agreed with the sizing since I was .5cm over the small guidelines in the hand and the medium wrist would have been way to big...

I also orderd a Juzo gauntlet for my unaffected hand, but I have to order a large through juzo, color me confused...
