Good 2 C U Dawn.  I also met a BC sistah from Londonderry NH.  Her name is Brenda.  I was at Ayottes just a few weeks ago to get DH some cigars, and I thought of you.

I thought I should give an update--- things going fine--had a lumpectomy, chemo and rads after dx in late  2008.  Am on lupron and femara (was pre-meno  at dx and cannot do tamoxifen because of blood clot risk)

After an initial challenge taking the drugs--joint stiffness, etc. I managed to almost eradicate it with exercise and stretching and vitamin d.  Not sure how long I need the lupron but I am going to propose to my onc at Farber that I should go off it this summer so see what happens.  It will be two years then.

Hair is back in a huge way--have a mop on my head....always had thick hair and it seems no different now except that it was curly when it grew back.

Kids are good-one started hs, one is still in grammar school.  Work is going well--- so things are good in general.

Had a bit of scare at my November mammogram-- they found something on the opposite side.  Even though the radiologist said he was pretty sure it was not cancer, he thought it should come out.  So, off I went to the surgeon---she also thought it was nothing but would not let me leave it there (I did ask).  So on Dec 6 I had an exicisional biopsy--local anesthesia--- it was pretty quick--- and she said right away that it did not look like cancer-and it was so tiny..... a couple of days later I had a mole re-excised from my back (I have regular 6 month dermatology checks) and that was far more painful than the biopsy!!

Anyway, everything was negative--my surgeon is so great.  I was surprised that this showed up on a mammogram since my actual bc did not... but then again, when you have mammograms at the Farber, they are actually looking for things....

I realized that this could happen again in the future--so I have to have some better coping skills around it.  When it happened, I was dumbfounded--- how could something show up--then I just got angry--- I marched around the hospital, gathering my records, making phone calls--- went up to my onc's office and announced that under NO circumstances would I do chemo again...... they all tolerated me.

But I remembered so clearly how bc completely took over my life in those weeks during dx and treatment decisions and I just did not want to go through that again.  thankfully, I didn't--because the minute the surgeon said she thought it was nothing, I relaxed, I have that much faith in her.....

So, for this time, it was nothing and I was grateful..... and I am just going to plan for that in the future--- no significant findings!!!

    Hope you are all well!

Carole, I am sooooooo glad you are doing good.  So am I.  Are you on Facebook?  If so you can friend me, Deborah Moorehouse Ryer.

It sounds like you have an awesome team of doctors.  So do I.  I go to the Breast Care Center in Woburn and my onc is in Stoneham. In November I got results from BW and my CA27-29 was abnormal but she said not to worry because my other TM tests were in the normal range.  I am going to have them re done in March, I will see my onc March 4th.  I am still concerned though.  Keep in touch please!

    Hi!

I just wanted to pop in and say hello, I'm a rhode islander, but am seen at MGH.  I'm 37, stay at home mom of two girls, 5 & 7 yrs.  I am a month out from BMX  for DCIS, all is going great and I am in the "clear", according to my BS.  Now I am getting fills and will hopefully be done with the exchange surgery sometime this spring.  I don't know anyone from my area with BC so the BC.org site has been amazing for me.

Well, I just wanted to introduce myself to some other New Englander's!!! Wishing you all the best and happy new year!

A belated Happy New Year to everyone. Momand2kids, so glad to hear the biopsy was negative. So scary. I can relate. In Oct, I found a lump on my right side. (I had bilateral mastectomies). I had Onc. appt. in two weeks. I should have called but didn't. They ordered an ultrasound. I called onc office to find out results and plan but they never called me back. I called surgeon's office and made an appointment. She said it is two cysts. I was much relieved of course. I too trust my surgeon and have tremendous faith in her. I have another ultrasound next week and appointment with her.

I also realized I needed better coping skills and this could happen in the future. I don't want to react the same again. I was scared out of my mind. I think i learned some better coping skills.

    fire-dancer, welcome to the group.

    Peace

    Hi, thanks for the welcome!!!

I am on day 2 home with the kiddo's.  The snow is pretty cleaned up in this area, but the schools just weren't prepared yet.  I guess the busses would have a difficult time...

It's nice to have a short week every once in a while.  I just keep hoping my darling daughters (5 & 7 yrs) keep playing well, or it's gonna be a looong day ;-)

    wishing you all the best!

Welcome Fire dancer......I also have 2 kids and as much as you want them home with you all the time, the fighting can be annoying and ruin a perfectly good day.  My kids are 10 and 7 and it still happens......you are lucky to be enjoying this bright sunny day with your kids.....mine had School and they were sooooo disappointed......

Sound like fun. April is good. Perhaps Southern Maine or Portsmouth area? It was so nice to meet everyone last fall.

I'll be out of town until late April.  But  I'll stay tuned for the date and will join if I can.  Would be happy to go to Maine or NH.

Hi, all, I just re found this topic. I am game for anything, lunch wise. Pouring here in Worcester but at least the rain is melting the left over snow. I will stay tuned. Sue

Hi everyone--I am new to this thread. I am a former Rhode Islander who has lived in Central Maine for the last 8 years. Got diagnosed in August, had a lumpectomy, SNB, Axillary Node Dissection, surgery for infection, chemo --TC -- and am now starting radiation. Just had my 3rd tx out of 33.

I'd be interested in meeting up with you all, too. That is, if you allow Mainers or former RI-ers. ;-)
