Deanna, northern California has been socked in with fog and high of 41 degrees for the 2nd day in a row, and I DON'T LIKE IT ONE BIT!!!!!! UGH!!! BUT happy you are having great weather and outside to enjoy it!
Spring, you can vent away anytime you like, that's what this site is for, we all get what you're saying and it feels good to get it off your chest! But like Suzanne said, take it easy and let your immune system rev up...I knew when I saw your post on FB about getting sick that it was from the gym! YIKES
Take good care.
-
Quick check-in; did 30 minutes Stairmaster today, medium intensity with a couple of intervals at the end... tomorrow (Saturday), will take it easy cardio-wise, maybe 20 easy minutes on SM or a walk outside before the big snow moves in, plus upper body strength (probably via Wii EA Active 2 just because it's so stinkin' fun!). Happy Friday night, girls!!
-
Increased my time on the elliptical another 2 minutes today -- 21 minutes!! Finally broke a mile, too! Time went by fairly fast since I had just made my flight and hotel arrangements for Stage 2, so mostly my mind was wandering. Discovered that we will be in NO for the first of the parades!! Has anyone been in town during any of the Mardi Gras? Is it TOO crazy to be safe?
-
That's great, dbdaze!! Woohoo!! Oh boy, I haven't been in NO during Mardi Gras, but it's definitely insane... definitely will be hard to get around during that time so I hope you're staying as close as you can to where you need to be!
My report for the day: I did the "Slim in 6" "Burn It Up" video, which was good for toning, horrible for cardio (I didn't even break a sweat... should have worn my heart rate monitor but I'm sure I wasn't in my target range for most of it).
Taking tomorrow off... just church and rest tomorrow!
Monday, I plan to hit it hard... I will go for 40 minutes of cardio (Stairmaster if it's freezing out, or may attempt my first post-mx jogging outdoors if it's warm and my boobless region doesn't hurt too much from jogging). Then, heavy-duty full-body strength training. I want to lose at least 4 pounds this week... I've been on a plateau for the last two weeks!
-
You go, CrunchyMamma! Sounds like you've got a plan AND the motivation -- it's always great when when those two are paired up!! I've got to say this is the first time I've ever been part of an on-line weight loss motivation forum and it definitely is keeping me motivated. My intentions are ALWAYS strong but I wither and bomb out soon after I begin. Thanks to all of you who take time to report on your workouts -- with your help, this may just pay off.
-
Head cold! Took Friday off totally and slept until 9:30AM! (hard to get a good nights sleep with all the draining and sneezing going on!).
Today, I felt good enough to do my weight training at the gym and 45 minutes on the stationary bike. Yay!!!
Great work Julia and Daze!
Daze, I was in NOLA for Mardis Gras and it was fun. You are lucky! You will love it! May as well experience it since you are going there!
-
Keep up the good work everyone! When I get on and see everything that has been done, makes me stay motivated.
Las Vegas is beautiful today. My friend and I walked for a couple of hours this morning,so much fun. Tomorrow is the gym and ab machines, UGH!!!
-
It was a good work out day. 55 min cardio and 30 resistance--including my PT exercises. I'm pleasantly wrung out. So hard to do sometimes, yet always leaves you feeling so good (or nearly always
)
-
Got a chance to work out today. I've lost 3 pounds in the last 10 days.

BLECH BLECH BLECHHHH!!!!! I ate like a pig yesterday (including nasty, carcinogenic Domino's pizza late last night!!) and my weight sprang up 3 pounds this morning!! What a crushing blow... when that happens, it totally kills my motivation and makes me think "screw it" and want to pig out even more.
Must not do that... MUST work out today... but my motivation is shot. Someone give me a swift kick in the boohonkus and tell me I need to at least get some cardio in!!!
edited to add: This is exactly what I was talking about when I first joined this thread, that I start out all gung-ho and then something happens and one mistake or day of weight gain causes me to fall off the wagon big-time... wish I had better internal motivation!!
-
Julia~ It takes 3500 calories to make a pound....so unless you ate about 12000 calories more than usual, you did NOT gain 3 pounds by overeating yesterday! You are probably retaining some water from eating some "junk"...and maybe your bowels are a little slow from eating cheesy pizza late at night....I know that is what would happen to me!! Perhaps you are not proud of what you ate yesterday, but there is no reason to overreact by beating yourself up/giving up. You are already giving yourself that "kick in the boohonkus", but it seems like THAT might be what is killing your motivation. ....maybe a little compassion and self-love would get you back out there.
For what it's worth, I think you are doing just great! I really admire you!
-
I love the new Domino's pizza! I try to eat a salad when we order it to keep myself from going for "one more piece", but, you can't deny yourself pizza all the time, too hard to live with that strict a diet. My theory is a little stress (not major, but little) is good for the body, helps it keep ready to handle big stress. So, little pizza sometimes is good for it. My story and I'm sticking to it.
Sounds like a good day for the 10 min rule. Start out doing 10 min of something. If you end up doing more fine, but, if its just 10 min its fine, you'll do more tomorrrow. Ten min is enough to keep you in the habit and your body thinking it is going to get exercise every day
-
Cripes, I need to exercise today. Here it is 5:15. ugh. OK.
Julia, it's probably all the salt in the pizza! I gave up dairy and I so miss cheese. Pizza. It about kills me. I have decided to try and make veggie cheese-less pizza at home. A friend told me you can buy pizza dough at the supermarkets? Worth a shot!
-
10 min rule had to suffice today for me. My legs are still shot
-
Giving up dairy sounds hard
Crunchymama, do you weigh yourself everyday? Maybe do a once a week weigh in instead?!!
I did good over the weekend, did some dancing to the radio, jumping around, jumping jacks, walking, and more walking! Walked with DD yesterday, my SIL is now off for 6 weeks, but NO baby yet...hmmm...I won't get to hang out with her now since he's home, I don't want to invade their space you know. (both our husbands work out of town and are home on weekends usually.)
Walked 30 minutes at lunch and will go home and get some more exercise in. I feel really awake today!! YAY! This exercising again has me feeling good!
-
Julia you can get right back on--trust me I know. Throw in a LOT of vegies today and tomorrow and you should be able to get right back on track. Also I find that I weigh myself on one day a week and put the scale away the rest of the week, especially if you've been bad.
-
CrunchyPoodleMama: Believe me, you are NOT alone! My good intentions have been blasted many a time. Usually, when I've decided to just eat foods that will help me lose -- blah, blah, blah. Why is it the tasty stuff has to have all the calories? So, I no longer take that approach. I TRY to eat 3 healthy meals but is something sneaks in, I calmly accept my right to enjoy. I find that my chastising myself only sets me back further. I also am acutely aware that my emotional health has a lot to do with my blowing my diet. I don't know why it has to be so hard. The deal breaker for me is that if I can actually SEE the results (and not just on the scales) I'm more motivated to stick with my diet and exercise program. Hang in there!
-
Thanks, girls, so much!! I forced myself to exercise... Kate, I did the 10-minute rule (but set the Stairmaster to 30 minutes "just in case") and did the full 30 minutes... I felt so much better afterward! My eating has been right back on track today too.
Spring, that's a good idea to make my own pizza... on Wednesday I am buying raw grass-fed cheddar from one of my local farms as well as a half-gallon of grass-fed milk (to make yogurt and possibly mozzarella with), and I have wheatberries that I can grind into flour, so I might try it later this week!
I do weigh myself daily... mainly because I went through a phase where I decided not to weigh myself at all, and the next time I weighed myself a couple of years later I had gained over 30 pounds (eek)!! I do tend to be a little OCD about it, but it usually keeps me on track better than not weighing daily. The thing I'd fear with weekly weigh-ins is that I might have a weigh-in on a "bad water weight day," and feel hopeless about it. If I weigh daily, I can see more easily what is water weight vs. real weight loss/gain.
You all are probably right about the salt making me retain water this morning, excess dairy clogging my bowels, etc... maybe for dessert tonight I'll whip up a chocolate smoothie with coconut water, raw organic cacao, stevia, and a bit of psyllium to help clean out the Domino's!! LOL
-
BTW - can I just say, what a GREAT thread, and what a GREAT group of ladies you all are!! Thank you again so much for giving me the encouragement (and being the voice of reason) I needed to get myself to exercise today!!
-
Way to go, CrunchyPoodleMama -- 30 min on the Stairmaster! What a comeback!
-
Zumba tonight! That is my favorite Monday thing to do!!! My 3 day walking partner now wants to do a bike ride in June, UGH! I hate to bike ride. That being said she did walk 60 miles with me last year. I guess I'll go and buy a bike. dbdaze my sister lives in Belingham, I love going up to the Northwest!
Happy Monday everyone.
-
Oh I SO did not feel like going out in the freezing rain and to the gym after work today.
Mondays, BLACH!! But!
I went to gym (packed! Insane!) and did my weight routine and 35 minute on the stationary bike. I excused myself the last 10 minutes because my nose was dripping out and I didn't have a tissue! I kept snorting it in and thought, "this is insane! I'm going to get chest congestion next"!! TMI, I KNOW!
No baby yet Kari!! Must be any day now??? Great !you sound great -- with all that energy! WOW!
Julia, you sound back on track! YAY!
-
Yeah Julie! Today is my big work out day, looking forward to it after last night. Little cardio, little stability ball, and lots of resistance exercises
-
Little tidbit that keeps me motivated:
There is NO food that taste as good as the feel you get when you lose enough weight to change pant size!
dianenv: what a friend you are! So who's your sister? Would be a hoot if I actually knew her!!
-
Thanks, girls - I have you all to thank for not only getting back on track yesterday, but also for just finishing 50 minutes on Stairmaster + upper body strength + core + stretching. Woohoo!
I am 4 weeks out from my mx today and was hoping to do 40 minutes (which would have been the longest I've done since the mx)... I set it for 60 minutes and decided not to beat myself up if I only did 30 or even 20. I surprised myself by blazing right up to 50! No intervals today, just a good steady pace right in my target heart rate zone. (Well, I did do 30 seconds on level 10 near the end, but that was just a little "I am woman, hear me roar" last little hurrah! LOL)
Spring, I hate when your nose starts dripping during a workout -- ugh! I keep a box of tissues and a trash can next to my Stairmaster now because I nearly always have to blow my nose at one point or other. Good for you for putting in as much time as you did!
dbdaze, I love that saying... for some reason it doesn't work on me, though... I sometimes tell myself "This won't taste as good as being thin feels" and my stubborn self argues back, "Oh yes it will!!!" Boy am I a stubborn girl!! LOL
-
LOL Stubborn girl!
Diane, maybe you will learn to love bike riding as Spring has! Did I tell you that my sister told me her husband asked for a divorce a couple weeks ago? I think she's going to stay in Las Vegas though, she's made some friends and will try and find a job. I can't believe this is happening to her, especially after we just moved them there! UGH!
I walked briskly at lunch for 30 min and last night did stretching and a few perfect pushups, that really pulls my tight scar area, but felt good to accomplish! I'm feeling more refreshed STILL!! Still staying up a little later, I think I was getting to much sleep when my DH was home during the week and wanted to hibernate, LOL!!
Edited to add: No baby yet, my DD called me earlier and said last night she was having 20 min interval contractions, but then they went away. I wanted her to have the baby today - 1/11/11 !! That would be easy to remember!
-
Aww Kari, I'm so sorry about your sister
-
dbdaze her name is Darcie. If you know her---such a small world!
Kari I remember you just moved her down there. At least she has a support group to help her.
Off to DD basketball game.
Happy Tuesday everyone!
-
Wow, got a great workout in last night. Think it will be yoga tonight. I have a new routine to try, can't wait
