Am I nuts?
I am having a huge problem with my teeth on the same side that I had radiation. They are all starting to split, shatter etc.. Has anyone else had this same problem? If so, what can I do to have it rectified without going broke, which I am close to now. Thanks, Kit

Hi Kit,
I am having problems with my teeth, but it is due to grinding them at night (from all the stress). I have not heard of breast radiation damaging the teeth. What does your dentist think?

I too grind, but not where this tooth is. That did not sound right, the area what is left of my teeth is not a hot point for grinding. I have had others say that they too have had problems since rads., and I just wanted to check. I have a mouth piece, but it will not fit now. Heck, I could not breath when I did wear it, and would toss it out during the night without knowing it. This is not normal grinding damage that is occuring. I will see my rad oncol. on Friday the 19th, but would like to know if others have had this happen. I am not sure that all are on the forums, but wanted to check. Thank you for responding! All the drs say no, it can not happen. I have a gut feeling it can with the scatters.

I finished radiation therapy March 31 2010 and yes have had problems with my teeth.
I have been losing enamel on my teeth, the first tooth was my back molar on my right side. I went into the dentist in November and he fixed that tooth with this white stuffed using for filling teeth that have cavities. Now I have noticed 2 other teeth that are wasting (the enamel), tooth is getting smaller. I have an appt with the dentist in a couple months and he will take care of it - not going sooner as there is no pain.
I was advised by my Pharmaceutical Oncologist when I went for my first consult before starting chemo that there was a possibility that chemo drugs could effect the teeth and/or bones of teeth.

I have had problems with my teeth since chemo in 1999 and I also grind at times. Recently, I had one crack and had to have a root canal. Thankfully, it went well and I should have to miss only one Aredia treatment.

Teeth are a window to good health. The horse trader always checks the animals teeth. That said, you need to find a biological dentist who understands the link with breast cancer and peridontal disease, which is what is causing your teeth to fail. Root canals can make the problem worse. They trap the bacteria. Look at the research done by Westin Price Foundation and then followed up Dr. Hal Huggins. Check out some of the threads here about root canals and mercury fillings. Dr. Huggins has actually removed hundreds of root canals and then put the bacteria from underneath into mice and they all get breast cancer.
Finding a biological dentist and getting these issues taken care of are key to your survival. I did not believe it at first, but I started to read and study this issue. I went to two seminars on this. I finally got opinions from three biological dentists. They all said the same thing-I needed to get the root canal out and replace my mercury fillings. I pulled the tooth and it was horrible underneath. I am in the process of repairing my fillings, but it is expensive so it takes time.
Your are not nuts. You are wise to take notice, now please do the research.

Hello vivre - am very interested in hearing about your experience. I have breast cancer - have had a masectomy, lymph node removal, 4 rounds of A/C and only 1 round of Taxol because the Taxol treatment just about killed me! They have me scheduled for radiaiton in two weeks and I have been looking for other alternatives. I really want to to just opt out of the radiation - I have started the Budwig protocol and am very interested in the root canal info. I had a root canal a few years ago (yes, on the same side as the breast cancer) and I really feel that it could be the cause of the cancer. I live in Spokane WA and will look for a dentist tomorrow. Can you email me and tell me of your experience? I am debating putting off the radiation and having the root canal removed first. Thanks for any input! My email is rclw2000@hotmail.com if you wish to email me directly.

My teeth have been terrible since raditaion. I had to have 3 teeth fixed 2 years ago, that was all I could afford. Now they are even worse, I hate the thought of dentures but think most of my teeth are too far gone.

1. I too had a root canal a few years ago on the same side that the breast cancer was done on, and can you please tell me how a root canal can maybe be the cause of root canal - I too can be reached at charmainejensen@sympatico.ca .
2. As I had mentioned I finished 30 rounds of radiation therapy March 30 2010, and I just had one tooth fixed just over a month ago, the enamel on one tooth was wasting away, and I got two more teeth I need to get fixed and will get that done in April - same thing happening to those two teeth. What I cannot understand here, is the radiation therapy was to our breasts so how could it affect our teeth ( I have been going by the possibility of the chemo drugs being the reason for what has been happening to my teeth).
Thanks, Charmaine

Vivre:
Is there a way that you can direct me to articles that indicate about mercury fillings causing breast cancer. I would like to print this out and show my dentist if he does not remove the mercury filling and put in the white kind.
Thanks so much, Charmaine
