I guess - but I'm pretty half hearted about it at best!
-
OK so this is weird, BUT: tonight after we spent the afternoon at the movies we stopped at On the Border for a quick bite and sat in the bar... which had four tv's all tuned to the Saints-Seahawks game so I actually watched the fourth quarter! I am sorry your Saints lost, Jenn. They did try! But those Seahawks were powered by underdog power (and home team advantage). It was pretty exciting to watch! I could not believe the high score.
Also -- we saw NARNIA (sweet and fun) and KING'S SPEECH (marvelous)!
-
I couldn't believe it either! But a commentator on NPR this morning said beware of teams that have nothing to lose. Sorry Jenn.
-
Lilah - you are so up on movies. I have not even heard of King's Speech. I'm still waiting to see if Made in Dagenham reaches our area.
-
King's Speech got a whole bunch of Oscar nominations recently... it's marvelous. About King George VI, who had a speech impediment. Geoffrey Rush is in it. A real grown up movie
I have never heard of Made in Dagenham!
-
King's Speech sounds good. The Dagenham movie is set in the late 60s or 70s in England when women in the car industry in England are looking for equal pay. I think it had had limited circulation but I suppose will make it on to dvd eventually.
-
Oh that sounds good too!
-
I haven't been to the show in a while, but we are talking about going to see Country Strong this weekend - hoping to get there. I sooo want to see Narnia, but can't get anyone to go with me. I haven't heard of the other two, but they sound interesting.
No apologies needed....the Saints didn't bring their "A" game, the defense seemed to have gone to sleep and like last year when the Saints were the underdog - Seattle wanted more and made it happen. My Mom always said to root for the team that beat you because you want to have lost to a better team, which is why I'm going for Seattle.
-
Those Seahawks sure did earn it!
Narnia was sweet... we have enjoyed all of them.
-
I am so tired of COLD......I know that most of you are north of me and have it much worse, but I am just not cut out for anything under 70, much less under 35.........
-
LOL Jenn -- you would not like it up north then! We've just had our 3rd snowstorm of 8 or more inches since Christmas! I am sick of snow and ready for spring!
-
I am also tired of being cold. Since the whole bc thing I have turned into a cold person. I am sitting here with three layers on!
-
My business partner saw The King's Speech and loved it. I rarely get out to see anything except movies my 14-year-old likes, so I guess I'll wait for the DVD.
Lilah, you write plays right? Musicals, I believe? Well there is a new play debuting at the Old Globe theater here in San Diego. It's a musical version of Emma by Jane Austen. I heard an interview with the playwright/composer and the director which included some snippets of the music and it actually sounded great. Nothing I would think would work...Jane Austen in song?...but it just might. Think I'll see it.
Stay warm ladies. Or better yet, come to San Diego. 75 and sunny today. Don't hate me.
Patty
-
Oh sounds so interesting Patty! I don't think I realized you were out there in San Diego! Old Globe is a fab place. Who wrote the musical? (What is the name of the person interviewed?) I can look it up if you can't remember (so no worries) -- I'm just curious
-
My youngest left to go back to college today, she is really excited about seeing her friends again....she was home for 5 weeks. That is a LONG break. DH and I are going to see Country Strong tomorrow morning - I've heard it's good and my DD downloaded the soundtrack, which I enjoyed.
I am so sorry for all of you that are getting one snow storm after another. A few days ago the weatherman said that there was snow in 49 of the 50 states - WOW!!!
Hope all is well..........Have a great weekend.
-
Lilah - The guys I heard interviewed were Paul Gordon (music, lyrics) and Jeff Calhoun (director, choreographer). Are you familiar with them?
Patty
-
Yes -- Paul Gordon did a musical based on Jane Eyre that was on Broadway several years ago ... interesting that he's sticking with the 19th century and doing Emma now. Jeff Calhoun is a well-regarded director-choreographer. It should be an interesting show! Are you going to go?
Jenn -- let us know how Country Strong was... we are thinking of seeing it (I love Gwyneth).
-
Hi Lilah - I enjoyed Country Strong, DH did not. It is a serious movie, not a funny no brainer like I normally like to see. Gwenth Paltrow was great, as always.
-
Interesting! Well we have it on our list now for sure.
-
Blood draw today, 3 monthly onc visit tomorrow.
-
Gilly - Good luck on the follow ups. Had mine last week..."bad boob" ultrasound and regular 6-month follow-up with Onc...all A-OK. Hoping the same for you.
Lilah - In the interview I heard, Paul Gordon mentioned the Jane Eyre production which, he said, was not very successful. Learning from that he's apparently gone a different direction with Emma...but I can't remember what he said was different. Duh.
Patty
-
I saw the Jane Eyre -- it was very dark (literally -- dark lighting and dark subject) -- and hard to follow. But he is talented and Emma is a light-hearted story by comparison, so I bet he HAS found ways to improve. If you see it, let me know what you think!
-
My MIL went to see The King's Speech, she said it was really good. She rarely goes to the movies or likes what she sees, so it must be good.
-
LOL Jenn -- it really is very good!
-
Hi everyone...just checking in, I continue to read your post everyday. All is good here still trying to sell this house. I now call it my prison because I feel very "stuck" here! I never get to see movies until they are in the Blue Box at Publix, lol! I also have an appointment for a 3 month check up in March. I hope all is well with everyone!
Gill, How did your appointment go?
{{{HUGS}}} Donna
-
Donna good to hear from you. I wish your house would attact a quick buyer - how frustration for you. Unfortunately property is really slow just now.
My appointment went fine. All looked good. However, I mentioned I was cold all the time - I was usually a warm person before bc. My onc took it much more seriously than I imagined - I was just mentioning it in passing. But I went for another blood draw today and they are checking my thyroid. About 10 years ago it was hyper, over active and he said with that history I might be having the opposite problem now. Though I don't have any other symptoms. I don't think it is anything. He did tell me that as we grow older we tend to have more fat than muscle and muscle keeps you warm - fat does not. I suspect that is my problem really. Anyhow, I'll find out soon. Thanks for asking.
-
Gill -- glad all went well. And hey: better a doctor who takes things seriously than one who doesn't!
Donna -- hi and here's hoping that a buyer shows up soon! You should write to HGTV and get them to sell it for you
One of those programs on HGTV (sorry can't think of the names at the moment).
-
Hi Everybody! Just breezing in to catch up and say hello. Wishing everyone warmth.
Navy
-
Gilly- good to hear all went well.
Talking about beeing cold, i`m cold almost all the time, but having hot flashes in the nights? It`s to months seens i finished chemo. How long will it stay that way?
-
I used to be cold all of the time, but now I'm always warm. The hotflashes are few and far between with the Effexor, but my poor DH is always asking if he can turn up the heat.......
I just got back from a check up with my rheumatologist and she said my blood work showed that my kidneys were "dry" and that I needed to drink more water. I guess I did the blood and urine work on a day that I didn't drink enough water......oops.
Donna - Maybe you should bury all the St. Anthony's you can find in the front and back yard of your house. How frustrating!!!
Gill - Someone either on these boards or outside of this told me that sometimes the radiation can get too close to the thyroid and cause problems....not sure about details, but I do remember a conversation not too long ago discussing thyroid problems after treatment.
Navy/Janda - HELLO, glad to hear from you.
