Any autoimmune DX with her2+
Ok, so anyone have an autoimmune disease with their her2+ breast cancer? I have read recently that so many of us are being DX with these disorders and have found that the dx of autoimmune was a mis dx and was actually bc mets. I was told I had a positive ana with high possibility of lupus or sjodgrens (sp) on that one. Does anyone know if this autoimmune thing will take up my chances of another recurrance? onc and rheumy do not seem too want to talk about this. Please help!

I don't think so.
I have Hashimoto's disease for about 20 years now...long before being diagnosed with breast cancer.
My own personal theory (COMPLETELY UNSUBSTANTIATED) is that most probably, I have a glitch in my immune system...and that's how I got bc in the first place.
My family history is fraught with autoimmune disorders.
(There's no evidence of immune system malfunction related to bc, but it seems "logical" on the gut level.)

Hello again. Twice bit here. When I first researched lupus and sjogrens, I read that people with lupus and sjogrens are more apt to get cancer, but less apt to die from it. That was good news to me.

Thanks for the info. I saw a pathologist today that is sending me to an expert in Cancer with multiple afflictions.the best info I get comes from sister survivors!

wow!just found this site. i have had MS for 20 yrs now; they also told me since ms "welcomes" bad" things infections, etc. and fights "good " things antibiotics, etc. it allowed cancer in, probably. 3 day walker..where do you find an onco that also knows about auto immune? mine knew nothing, the cancer center i went to, didn't know either.. just for radiation. not chemo. they titrated my dose after a near fatal reaction to the first dense dose; and i was able to finish it, and i'm a year out now... 3jaysmom

Hi 3jaysmom! I actually had a hard time finding on onc that did know how to deal with both, Moffitt is the best, this is in Tampa Fl. But I went to web page for Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland for info and they sent me looking for the new onc. Onc says that auto-immune will def cause problems with a possible recurrance but mostly the drugs used to fight auto-immune will cause the upset of remission. So I am trying my best to be a good girl and take my vitamins, stay away from sickies and keep looking for new info out there. Gee I hope all is good for you right now. My grandad had MS and in his last years, 82 he developed lung cancer, thats actually what caused his death. So glad to hear you are a year out. What exactly do they tell you about your chances or a recurrance with the MS? Take care hear from you soon.

When I found out it had come back in my liver I found a naturopathic doctor who ran a allergy panel test on me. Turns out I was highly allergic to dairy, almonds and wheat/gluten/barley. (Totally weakened my immune system
) I wish I would of known sooner but glad I DO KNOW now!

momto2angels, Wow I never knew allergies could cause problems with the immune system, should I have that checked out? I am so sorry that the cancer has spread. I wish I knew of a magic pill for you. One day they will find the cure, lets hope its very soon! Please know that you are in my prayers.

Hi 3day,
Thanks so much for your kind words and for the prayers
My family are concerned that they too may have unknown allergies and are going to get the allergy panel test done too.
I read an article on celiac disease (wheat/gluten) and it said at worst it can lead to anemia, infertility and cancer. I had all 3! I had anemia really bad in 2005, infertility for years.. went through invetro to get pregnant in 2006 and had cancer in 2007.
Honestly I think everyone should have that blood test done. From how I understand it, if your body is constantly fighting against the foods it's allergic to, then other things.. maybe "c" can come on in and do what it wants because your body is "already" busy fighting something else.. the allergies
Here is a link to a site on food allergies:
http://www.medicinenet.com/food_allergy/article.htm
good grief.. here is a paragraph taken from that site:
People who have food allergies must identify and prevent them because, although usually mild and not severe, these reactions can cause devastating illness and, in rare instances, can be fatal.

Hi monto2angels, Thanks you so much! Your life is important girl and I will continue to lift you up in prayer. Your 2 angels need a mom and we need you to speak for stage 4 survivors out there. I just am so sorry to hear that you cancer has spread, I sometimes feel almost guilty that I am doing well right now. Does that make any sense at all? My auto immune (lupus) is the bugger right now, just hoping it doesn't bring on the "c" No one seems to want to tell me to much about the chances of recurrance being higher now. I will definitely check out the food allergy tests. I have become allergic to lots of things I wasn't before. I also have been anemic the past 3 blood tests. Thanks again! Stay strong, keep smiling and know others care for your well being.
