Has anyone heard of the diet plan with hcg injections to get rid of fat? It's not estrogen or progesterone, so is it harmful for those of us who were diagnosed with Positive for both and Her2Postive? On the one hand it's a natural substance our bodies make when we are pregnant, but on the other hand it's a little risky considering all the chemo and stuff I made my body go through. But I have gained 25 pounds not being able to exercise due to all the surgeries, and when I did exercise my joints hurt because of the tamoxifen. I just want to fit into my normal size pants. I don't even want to be skinny, I just want to stop buying bigger clothes. Cancer is attracted to fat, so I need to get rid of it.  Thanks for the input!

Hey ritylag - my PCP said because I am (as you are positive) that it would not be good for me to do.  I thought that would be the case so I didn't ask questions based on what it is.

ritylag ~ I haven't read enough about hcg to venture an opinion, but my instinct is to be very leery of any hormone that your body isn't naturally producing, because by using it you  -- even if it is a natural substance -- you are creating an unnatural state in your body.  (Hope that makes sense!)

What I can suggest that has worked great for me and many others is walking.  It's something you can start slowly, even with achy joints, build up quickly to several miles a day, and see the weight drop off if you stay consistent at it.  Come join us on the Motivation thread if you need motivation to exercise.  One of the gals there has lost something like 70+ lbs. doing Wii-Fit, and others do yoga, cycling, zumba, etc.  No pressure -- just lots of sharing and gentle encouragement to get up and get moving.    Deanna

Thank you Deanna and Susie for sharing. I had that gut feeling it was not okay, but I needed someone to confirm my thoughts. I actually bought a Wii-fit, but my daughter spends more time on it than I do. I will try the walking thing and see how that goes. I appreciate it!

Rita, keep the faith -- I know I've been frustrated at the way my weight has hung on, and initially with my joint pains (arimidex), and plenty of days I just couldn't get out and walk, but I kept trying.  It's taken all summer but I know the exercise has helped, and I'm finally pretty much pain-free.  I've also finally lost a total of 10 pounds (although more to go!).  Again, it's taken all summer (and part of last spring), but eventually I started seeing some weight come off, and once I hit that point, it's been more encouraging to continue.

Have you checked with other women on tamoxifen to deal with the joint pain?  I know there are things that have helped women on arimidex with joint pain, like Vit. D3, fish oil, exercise, diet (some are helped with no gluten, some with no refined sugars and flours, etc, and the anti-inflammatory diet seems to have a lot of merit).  No idea if any of that helps with T.  Some of the diet ideas also help you lose weight.

Like Deanna said, this isn't meant to be pressure, and I sure know how hard it is to move when you hurt, but any bit you can do will make it easier to gradually do more.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. What is the anti-inflammatory diet? I'll check it out. I do feel better when I exercise, so there is merit to it. Sometimes after standing all day teaching I don't have the energy to exercise, but I know it's a must. Congrats on your weight loss.. little by little! My daughter and I just got a puppy, so now I can walk her. You all are great for the support!

I had dcis, grade 3, bilateral mastectomy, and ER/PR positive. My oncologist indicated that some studies have proved successful, and cleared for me to give it a try.  I guess it is dependent on the patient... I started today.
