Pain in legs after mastectomy and/or DIEP?

Options

I had a bilateral mastectomy sentinal node biopsy and DIEP on Oct 28. I started having numbness in fingers in both hands and fairly bad pain in both legs (mainly when in bed / sleeping, but also noticed a little while sitting, too). The pain is getting worse. I've never had anything like this before, so it seems to make sense that it's related to the surgery (nerve damage??). But, it's been eight weeks, so that doesn't seem to make sense. Have any of you had this happen? Any ideas on what the cause might be or what to do? I have an appointment with my breast surgeon tomorrow for another reason, so I'll definitely ask her. Just wondered if others might have experienced the same thing. Oh... the other thing, and reason for the appointment tomorrow, is that I have a seroma under one arm and have to have surgery Wed to scrape tissue in the axillary area.  Thanks for your help!

I'm sorry you're having so much discomfort. I think you'll probably have better luck finding someone who's had similar symptoms if you post under the Reconstruction thread. This thread is for women who haven't had reconstruction. Good luck!

I had reconstruction DIEP and masectomy on one side  8 months ago.  I had a little numbness and tingling in my hand on that side.  Have you been to physical therapy?  I highly recommend it.  I had some lymphadema on that side and the tingling and numbness was because of damage to the lymph systems.  The physical therapist was super great in giving me exercises and using compression bandages and the whole thing went away.  I had a little bit of swelling and pain in the hand on a hot day several months ago when I had been exercising a lot, but it went away after I did the exercises and lymphadema massage.  good luck.

I have too been having the leg,hip pain. I saw my GP who prescribed MOBIC an antinflammitory and saw my onc yesterday. He said it was from the chemotherapy. My last treatment was 9/30, so I was a bit surprised that I would still be feeling so bad. I am on the Arimidex, and after reading about all of the posts with the SE including leg and joint pain, I am thinking that may be the culprit. He did say that Ibuprofren would help. I do feel better walking around, as sitting or lying down makes it worse. He did also say that it will get better with time. I hope this helps. It is crazy how you feel like you are 90 years old at 56. I went out and got a new yoga mat. I refuse to let this get me down. I am having my exchange surgery on January 27!
