I took the weekend off from exercising, but tomorrow I plan to do:

     - 30 minutes intervals on Stairmaster

     - Wii EA Sport Active 2 upper and lower body strength training routine *or* Slim in 6 "Ramp It Up" video (probably the former, which gives me a better workout... the Slim in 6 "Start It Up" video was kind of lame

     - Wii "Walk It Out" just for fun, to burn off some extra calories... in conjunction with either a step and/or rebounder if my post-mx boob can take the bouncing

You girls are cracking me up!!  Thanks for the compliments as well (blushing here).

Dummy me, went to the mall (yes I can finally approach the mall again after the holiday craziness there) and left my shoes at home, so did a slow 30 minute walk, but walk nonetheless in my work shoes.  Will get my butt on the treadmill when I get home, which will be within the hour and do some strength.

I am going to try for the first time, a black bean burger recipe.  DH is back at work after 5 months home, so I don't have to worry about him saying "NO WAY" to that!  heehee

Appreciated the links as well girlies!!  Here we goooooooo another year for us and we're still kickin!  Let's make it a motivated one as we're in this together!!  Wink

Happy Monday everyone!!! I Zumba'd today and am planning on hitting the weights tomorrow.  UGH, the holiday weight has hit, and not in a good place.

I managed to maintain through the Holidays.  Stopped losing, but, said I'd be happy to not gain.  Seemed a more realistic goal.   Shoulder and chest still really causing problems, so upper body work has been restricted and mild.  Did get on the treadmill yesterday.  I think today will be a pilates day.  Tomorrow yoga

You ladies are great!  I would like to join you in your fitness quest!  I used to be so much more active and really understood the payoffs of working out and keeping fit....it is weird how easy it is to totally forget!  Anyway, I have faith that my self-motivation will come back at some point, but for now I need some company.  My DH and I go for walks many mornings, but it doesn't seem to do much for my shape or energy levels.  I have signed up for a class that starts next week at the local college called "Pilates Plus" and am hopeful that I am fit enough to keep up (fearing that I may be the only "old lady" in the room.... eeek)  I am glad you girls are here ~ I already feel more motivated by reading your posts and seeing how great you are all doing!

Walked 4.5 miles with DH yesterday and then did a short gentle Yoga session to stretch everything out. Today I need to do the weights at the gym and some cardio. I think 45 minutes on the bike!

KMMD, I agree, maintaining is good! I am still trying to lose what I gained over the holidays.

Thanks to SPRINGTIME, I just found this forum.  Hoping to catch some motivation from all of you so I can get ready for Stage 2 reconstruction.  I'm 6 weeks post Stage 1 and 6 weeks pre Stage 2.  I don't have the money or motivation for a gym membership but we have an ultra deluxe elliptical machine here at home that I've started using again and we also have the wii Fit.  I'll have to pull that back out.

KFINNIGAN Oh, I just made the Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burger recipe from AllRecipes.com and it was amazing!  Everyone, including hubby, loved it.  I'm interested in using more vegetarian recipes too.

Welcome Suzanne, kira & dbdaze!  It's so nice to see so many new faces here to motivate us!

It has been so hard getting out the door and back into my daily walking routine, but this morning I finally walked 5 miles.  And I swear halfway through it, I could hear every cell in my body shouting, "Ahhh, feels great!  Thank you!  I needed that!"

I have been in a crazy house-cleaning, throwing out mode for more than a week now -- going through closets and rearranging stuff like I haven't done since prior to my bc dx.  I had a thrift store truck pick up some larger stuff, plus I've donated 3 more SUV loads!  Something about the new year  just hit me this year -- like it was time for a serious new beginning.  Thank goodness, I'm almost done, but the workout from all the lifting and moving has been great!     Deanna

Deanna, Boy can I relate about cleaning house. Last summer none of my usual cleaning was done. I am finally getting some energy back, thank goodness, and the house is calling to me.

Well, got on the wii today, and it says I gained 1/2 pound, then I realized I had didn't have shoes on Sunday when I did my first weigh in. Anyway did about half an hour of arobic work on it. It says I'm about 9 years older than my real age. Boy I hope that changes for me soon.

Deanna, I'm jealous of your 5 mile walk -- don't know where you are but here in NW Washingon, we are dealing with freezing temps and icy roads/sidewalks.  I really don't mind the cold, it actually feels good during a brisk long walk but I'm extra nervous about falling right now!

I'm building up to do some major cleaning -- at least I'm HOPING that all my THINKING of doing it is a good start. lol  I spent a couple of months this past summer in a small poor town in Costa Rica where I was really touched by how little people really need.  The locals have only what is needed and I came to find such beauty in this.  Ever since I returned, I've been spurred to do some MAJOR  de-cluttering -- I'm just waiting for my body to catch up to my brain.  Soon, I'm sure!  It certainly helps to read how successful you were!

Kira1234, you gotta luv the wii -- eventually your wii age will take  a dive and you can brag it up.  I really have to work on the balance tests.  I had NO idea my balance was off.  YIKES!

Reporting in for yesterday! Weight training at the gym followed by 45 minutes on the stationary bike. This was good for me after going back to work. I can tell you, I did NOT feel like going but I went with DD, and that made all the difference! We went out after to have dinner, and ate veggies and salad bar. So not bad!

I am so glad you came over here, DBDaze!!!! :)

Pls keep posting your activities on the wii fit. I may need to buy that! Would like to hear more!

Debbie, I'm very fortunate to live near Palm Springs, where I can walk and hike year-'round.  But I lived in the Colorado & Utah mountains for many years, so can absolutely relate to the cold & ice you have there.  And you're wise not to risk a fall, especially if your balance is off.

I walked another 5 miles today, but I had to push myself to get out and keep going.  My holiday hiatus doesn't seem to have affected my weight (well, maybe a pound or two), but I don't have nearly as much energy as I did previously, and I'm so determined to get that energetic feeling back.  And just as a side note to the new gals here -- I didn't start out walking 5 miles.   When this thread was new (wow, almost 2 years ago!) and most of us had just finished up our active tx, walking in a little circle around my neighborhood was all I could do, and that's enough for anyone to get started.

Kari, any news on Krystal and baby???    Deanna

Welcome all the new faces!! It is nice to get on the thread and see all the posts.  Hit the gym yesterday and walked 4 miles today.  Planning on the gym again tomorrow.

The weather in Vegas has been cold but nice the past couple of days, after we got past the snow on Monday.

    Happy Thursday everyone!

Wow, lots of activity here! YIPPEE for that!!  I've walked and after walking the trail ravine behind the office on Tuesday, my shins are KILLING me!  the steep hill did them in! YIKES! So now can barely walk without wincing.  BUT went over Krystle's (DD #1) last night and we played on the Wii, the resort games, and we had so much fun, we laughed so hard.  My right arm is even sore!  you end up jumping around a lot!!  Will go again tonight!

No baby yet, went with her to her OB/GYN appt. on Tuesday and her cervix is 50% effaced but the baby hasn't dropped yet.  He thinks she will keep to her 1/16 due date...and I think I like Grammy for my name and Kevin (DH) wants Papa...Had to get DD's approval on those and she liked them...she's very picky! LOL

Meeting her at Pluto's for lunch (salad/veggies) in just a few minutes.

Shake your groove thing today! Wink

    Where is that baby, Kari-Gram?

So yesterday I almost didn't exercise. Then I came here, and also saw my sister in law post in facebook that she was about to exercise. So at 8:45PM I got on the eliptical and went for 45 minutes! I told myself I would just go for 30 and see how I felt. It was one of those "very tired" nights.

Today I zoomed out of here at 5 on the dot, did the weights at the gym and 45 minutes on the stationary bike. Yay!

Keep moving everyone! Or, shake your groove thing, ask Kari says!

Hi, girls - I've been lax about reporting in every day! Yesterday I did a workout video, "Ramp It Up" from the Beach Body "Slim in Six" program, but honestly, it wasn't that much of a challenge and was pretty boring. So, I won't be doing it again. (It did give me a good ab workout, at least!) I get a much better strength-training workout on my own or with Wii EA Active 2.

Today I did 35 minutes on Stairmaster at a pretty brisk pace (including a few intervals) and that's all... I'm still not back up to the 50+ minutes I was doing pre-mastectomy, but I think I'm doing pretty well for three weeks and a day out!

I would say so Julie.  Spring, that does motivate somedays doesn't it?

Found a new DVD to try.  It is full of ten minute workouts.  Couldn't resist something that fit so well with the ten minute rule!  I'll let you know how it goes

Springtime:  I am deeply impressed that you could end the day tired and STILL put in 45 minutes on the elliptical.  My body hasn't seen a gym or done any "canned" exercise (don't' even know if that makes sense )  for years so I'm taking baby steps.  Today I hit 19 minutes on the elliptical -- loved the new mode I discovered on the machine.  It keeps me hopping and changing from lower body to upper body workout and even throws in some reversals!  In the past, I found the elliptical so boring I never made it past a couple of days, so this is a very nice change!

I'm so glad we have the elliptical here at home because our weather is going from bad to worse, and having to get to the gym would put my program on hold.  Expecting snow and below 0 temps in the next few days. If I have food, drink and wood for the stove, I just hunker down and stay put.  Love the snow as long as I don't have to go anywhere!

Just ordered flowers for the service of a friend of mine who died of breast cancer.  I sent the traditional breastcancer.org single pink rose.  I know its different when we get together here and each of us sends one so a large bouquet gets sent, but, somehow a single rose seemed to represent quite well the loss and and how inadequate words and flowers are.

A single rose says a whole lot, kmmd (I didn't know your name was Kate? I love that name), so sorry to hear another sister is gone...hugs but we must continue shaking our groove thing in her memory...

Went to DD's after work and we did the Wii again, but not as long, I was tired (Spring you put me to shame!), did watch the premier of the Biggest Loser (DVR'd it), now that show is motivating, although its hard to watch the trainers putting them through such hell to the point of throwing up and passing out! yikes!

My SIL is taking off next week, maybe that will bring some good juju and baby Savannah will be born soon!!  here's hoping!

Love reading about everyone's routines!  Keep on shaking it ladies!!  yeehaaaaaawwwwww!!!

kmmd, I'm so sorry about your friend.  Whenever I hear about another woman losing her battle with bc, I want to cry, and then I get angry -- angry that in spite of all the hundreds of millions of dollars that have been raised to fight bc, progress to stop it is ridiculously slow.

Julia, you are doing GREAT!  And knowing that you had a mx not too long ago makes your determination doubly impressive.

I jogged/walked 2.5 miles this morning.  Hope to do something more outdoors later.  The weather is absolutely glorious today.  Happy weekend, everyone!   Deanna

Daze, I have an eliptical at home too, and a DVR. You are right, it can be boaring! I found an episode of the "Closer" I hadn't watched before. IT seemed to really help. Some days I don't like that machine, but it is so good having it at home in bad weather or when it gets late.

KMMD, sorry about your friend. And the one rose is lovely. Aren't we all each like one rose? Very thoughtful...

I have a bad headcold that started last night. I want to share here how I think I got it - so you all can learn from my mistake! I have not had a cold since before I was Dx's in July of 2008! I have been very careful. I think I got it at the gym. Crud is going around here, and gym equipment - think of all the hands that touch it. I should have used the antibacterial hand gel and washed my hand in the bathroom!!! I used to do this but have gotten lax. LEARN FROM ME!!

My head hurts so much, I don't know if I will be able to exercise wah wah wah. I feel like a baby! wah. I will try to do soomething...

All of you starting, do not be discouraged by us saying oh I was on the eliptical for 45 minutes or I walked 4 miles or 5 miles. WE ALL STARTED OUT WHERE YOU ARE. I started walking outside. then I started walking a bit faster, then a bit longer. It is a journey. Find what you like, but remember, you won't always feel like doing it. But once you get started you might, and I always am so glad I did it when it is over! Deanne once reminded me that Vivre said, "Every step we take is a step away from Breast Cancer". I have remembered this all this time and think about it sometiimes when I am doing something and feel, ugh, do I have to go on. I think of running away from BC!! Now that is motivating! Over time, I have noticed that my ability to do cardio has improved and increased. I found real cycling was a much harder work out, and so is eliptical. You will discover what you like and what you can do! And we all have spots where we don't exercise as much. Just get back into it again!

    Kari-Gram, no Baby yet???

Crunchy, you are doing good!!! Good for you! Yay!

Yesterday: all the weights at the gym (my tructal LE is totally under control again! Needed to up the weights and go every other day!) and 45 minutes on stationary bike.

I have a spot of LE in my arm right around the elbow and opposite side I am trying to erradicate.  I kept looking at this spot, and I wondered if something was going on there. So I got DH to mark my arm from wrist to shoulder every 4 CM, and then measure each arm. Sure enough, right in that spot it was larger on my left than right (and that is my NON dominant arm!) Overall my left was 3% smaller than right (it is supposed to be 4% smaller) so it is just a little bit - but it is bothering me!!! It is from the surgery I had in Oct. I am now wearing my sleeve during the day and getting DH to massage the arm (MLD) each night before bed for 10 minutes - if I can catch him before he falls asleep! I hope this works. I also have ordered a new sleeve - my current seems all stretched out up top!.  When I went to PT last year for the trunctal stuff, they had me wear my sleeve during the day for a month, and my non dominant arm went from 4% larger to 6% smaller, so I am hoping I can get this to work again. Why am I telling you all this? I guess I had to tell somebody!!!!???

Spring, do take it easy!  If anything, just an easy walk or some stretching.  Over-exercising actually lowers your immune function, and if you are already immune-challenged you won't be doing yourself any good by pushing it.  Get some rest and I hope you feel better real soon!
