As some of you know, a friend and I recently started a breast cancer support group in our community. We had a meeting on Monday and had 12 ladies show up - 3 new to us. So, in a weird way, we were very pleased. One lady had just been diagnosed - so you can imagine how she felt. I am so pleased we were able to offer support to her. It's nice to do something "good." Our speaker talked about nutrition - somewhat disappointing. Nothing new - everything in moderation, not much red meat, lots of fruits and veg - just the usual. I was hoping for something specific for us cancer gals.

Gill - I so glad to hear that your support group is doing well.  I signed up to speak with a nutritionist before starting chemo and was disappointed because she didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.  I felt it was a disappointment, as I wanted more, but I don't know how much more she could have told me.  Maybe that was the case with you and the other ladies, you're already educated in nutrition so the speech seamed somewhat redundant.

Last night DH and I went out shopping and didn't get home until 11p, well past my bedtime.  We planned to go back out tonight, but I'm tired after not getting enough sleep (didn't get tired until 2a) and working all day.  We'll go again tomorrow night and maybe I'll get up and go early Sat or Sun before the crazy crowds move in.

Has anybody seen Black Swan or heard reviews?  It's not normally the type of movie I see, but for some reason I really, really want to see it.  I know the Academy likes it, but I'm curious how any of you feel if you've seen or heard about it.  I'm really getting excited, on the edge of my seat....waiting for Little Fockers to come out.  I love Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers and am hoping Little Fockers is good.

    LOL Aw Jenn keep trying!

I have heard that Black Swan is very difficult to watch ... but I will probably see it.  They say it may be Natalie Portman's Oscar performance.

Gill that is so awesome that your group is growing!

Good Morning gals.  I have not posted in quite awhile now and just wanted to pop in and say hello.  I am so glad to see that some of the August Amazons are still posting and life is continuing.  I have been traveling a bunch and have another trip planned for January.

Navyson, DIL and grandson are home now Christmas.  :)   :)   :)

This holiday season is so very different than last year.  I looked at the photos that were taken and I am so happy to be in such a better frame of body and mind this year.

Wishing you all happiness and a bright new year.

I took this week off from work, the first time in a long time if ever that I've taken the entire week before Christmas off - it's nice.  Today I went to see Burlesque with my DD - I really like Cher and Christina Aquillara (sp?).  Great voices - I enjoyed the movie.  I have so many movies I want to see and it seems there just isn't enough time......

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Hi Amazons!  I haven't posted in a while but see some familiar names.  Isn't it amazing what we have been through these last long months!  Congratulations to everyone.  I had a double mastectomy in February, with tissue expander placement, followed by exchange surgery in July and, finally, nipple reconstruction in early November.  I feel great and love my "breasts".  For those of you that have gone through tissue expansion . . . it's awful, eh?  Oh well, it's done and I am very pleased.

This forum was so important to me during my initial diagnosis and early treatments that I just wanted to let you all know that I have a book coming out in January.  It is called "All the Wiser: Surviving Breast Cancer Through Knowledge".  It is based on my blog as well as my postings to this forum but it also has a good deal of medical information in it.  So much of my journey was about learning as much as I could that I wanted to publish an easy-to-understand resource for key questions about breast cancer.  This was my way of trying to help as many women as possible go through a diagnosis of breast cancer.  Take a peek on Amazon, I hope that women will find it useful.

I hope that you all have a wonderful holiday.  Navy, Donna & Jenn - nice to "see" you on the forum!Laughing

Hey ladies!  Just wanted to pop in and say Merry Christmas to you all.  Hard to believe it will have been a year next week since my last chemo.  Things are going well for me.  I have an uncontrollable mop of curls on top of my head which is much nicer than last year's peach fuzz.  I just joined a gym for the winter and I'm hoping to lose the 20 pounds that I call my "chemo weight" and then the 30 pounds I had to lose before that.  I hope you are all doing well.  I think of you all often and check in here once in awhile to read up on everyone's progress.

    Happy New Year!  xoxo

I still haven't made it to the movies....sooooo busy.

I just met Sugar (Sherri)-she posts on the TN website.  She and her family are in town for vacation.  She is so wonderfully sweet and brought me treats from Canada.  Needless to say in my unorganized world I woke up late and left her New Orleans presents at home...Go figure.

Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe New Year!!!

Happy New Year to all of you. Just a update on my mother. We saw her onco yesterday and they will not say either way if the spot on her lung is cancer or not just yet. They want us to wait 3 months to see if it grows. If it does than they will assume it is and go from there. They also see that her kidneys are shrinking and there must be some kind of blockage and she needs to see a specialist for that. Her reg dr is doing a thyroid test to see if all is ok there. They also see extensive calcifaciations in her arotic artires and other areas as well. They are concerned for heart disease. So it seems that we still have some hills to climb. At this point she is just sick of doctors and test and she just needs a break. Her anurysm has remained the same at 3mm. The spot on her lung is 9mm to small to biospy. Its so fustrating to see her go threw this all the time but she remains strong. As for now she is still cancer free and we will take it. Thank you all for your advise and if you have any advise I would love to hear it. God bless you all

Happy New Year everyone!   I wish things were going better for your mom, Loves, but try to take it one step at a time and enjoy your time together along the way.

Jenn - I first thought one of the beautiful ladies in the picture was you and then I thought "How the heck did Jenn's hair get that long?"  Ha.  Your daughers are beautiful.  Next up...you!

Patty - thanks!  I can't seem to get my pictures up there.  My youngest was telling me that some picture files are bigger than others.  Although it doesn't seem to make sense in that one file is bigger than the other, when they are both simple snapshots, I get what she is saying.  I'll try with some other pictures soon.

Loveshermother - I'm sorry for all of your troubles and hope that it gets better for you and your mom. (((hugs)))

I hope that everyone had a great New Year.  We ate our cabbage and blackeyed peas and hope that that will bring good luck to 2011.

Jenn -- go to your Picture Manager and resize the picture you want to post to "small web size" or "email size" (if you have a PC it's Microsoft Windows Picture Manager, I believe, and you can pick the type of picture rather than an actual size).  If you don't have a name to choose like "small web" then try making the picture 200 x 200 pixels (a random number I am picking out of the air because I know it's on the small side) and then "save as" under a new file name so that you still have a copy in your computer of the original.  Anyway see if that helps.

Love the photo of your girls!

Penny -- thanks for the update on your mom.  Hang in there.

Lilah - thanks for the info and for the compliment on the girls picture.  I thought that I had tried resizing it, but could be wrong and will try what you suggested to see if it works.

Saturday is the Saints playoff game against Seattle.  Although we're expected to win I am very worried we have a lot of injuries this year and will have several people out for this game - UGH!!!
