Hi I just found out that I am triple negative.  Stage 3 grade 3 IDC.  Had a mastectomy and now wondering if I should have the other breast removed.  Seeing the oncologist on Jan 10th for the first time.  Has anyone already made a decision for this type of situation .. Oh and there were NO noids involved. only vascular.. Thanks

Hi mmmurray.  Welcome to the board.  I am afraid I cannot help you as I did not have a mastectomy, but I had to ask about your pathology results.  You are the first person I have seen comment on having vascular invasion.  How do you know that?  Does it say that on your path report?  I was planning to ask my onco about this at my follow up in march as there is nothing on mine that talks about vascular invasion.  Based on what I have read recently, my cancer tends to spread by blood rather than lymphnodes so I am very curious about this.  I know it seem ridiculous that I do  not know this, but I was so out of it for the first 2 months post diagnosis and then distracted with chemo - I neglected to ask a lot of questions that I know want answers to.

Good luck with your decision.  I know there are a lot of women here who have been in your shoes and they will surely  be along soon to offer advice.

I had a bi-lat masectomy, but I did have node involvement and am stage 3, grade 3.  In all honesty I think that is one of those choices that is very personal.  My onc and the "board" that discussed my case agreed with my decision.  I made the decision based on the fact that I did not want to go through this again and hoped that by removing both breasts I gave myself better odds.  However, I do think having a recurrance is a crap shoot........ Good luck with the decision.

Hi mmmmurray , I posted this for someone else as well I hope it helps you out. I am TN and I had a double mastectomy in June. I had a large lump in my left breast they did an ultrasound and mammogram and with in 2 weeks I was in surgery , I had IDC and they removed 4 lymphnodes but it did not spread.  I am also BRCA2 positive. I decided to remove both breasts because my mother, Aunt and Grandmothers all had it and a recurrence so I was not going to fool around and wait for it to show up again some day but I have not done reconstruction yet I wanted to wait to get through all the junk first. Since I have TN breast cancer I cannot take hormones (birth control or Hormone replacement therapy) So now I am in Chemopause Foot in mouth due to the chemo but I am doing fine. The chemo they gave me and said TN seem to respond very well to it is 4 AC and 4 Taxotere. They wanted me to do chemo as a preventitive due to the history , size of the tumor and the TN status. Now I know depending on your total diagnosis you may have different. But I know you are going to be fine and you found all of us so we are here for you when ever you need us. If you have any other questions let me know and I will do what I can to help you. HUGS Tracie
