Motivation

Julie, another thing I do to keep motivated, besides as Kari said come here to this thread, is to come here and then state "here is the exercise I am going to do today". For some reason, telling everyone here of my plans makes me feel more like I better do it! ha!
For instance, yesterday, I actually did all the weights at the gym, 45 minutes of cardio on a bike (and I said 30 minutes optional!) and then I did half my Yoga tape (30 min). I am not working over the holiday, and I find it so lovely and much easier to get the exercise in!
Kari! Wow on the mucus plug! Won't be long now, Miss Granny!!! (what is your "Grandma" name??) Sorry about your sis. Good grief.
OK - so for today, Yoga and 30 minutes on the elliptical, and then I am going to bounce on the mini tramp. I am going to try 10 minutes, I may have to do 2- five min sessions. OH for all you LE ladies, I am wondering if the mini-tramp jumping will stimulate the lymph area to drain? Has anybody heard of this? When I was doing it the other day, I was trying to keep my arms in a way to really get that area stimulated!

Julia, I had a similar thing happen last night -- wrote a post welcoming you, only to get some sort of internet error message when I tried to post it. And it was too late to reboot my computer and rewrite it. Anyway, I hope you stick with us and enjoy this thread as much as we all do. The consistent exercise has made a noticeable difference in my strength and toning, not to mention the significant risk recurrence benefit. And I hope & pray it will help you fulfill your heart's desire in 2011!
So far, I've walked 2 days this week, about 4 miles each. My pedometer conked out, so I tried DH's high-tech model, which kind of startled me when it announced, ".5 miles" The only problem was, I'd already walked at least 2.5 miles when it spoke, so it must need a new battery.
I'm still not back into my pre-holiday routine, and amazed at how low-energy I've felt this week. I'm kind of surprised at how quickly a little holiday meal, a little dessert, a little less sleep, and a little less exercise can add up to a BIG feeling of crappy! Can't wait to get every bit of junk out of my system and feel better again! Deanna

Ok so I have to do this. I need to lose oh about 40 pounds. If I don't join you ladies who will help to hold me accountable I'll never do it. I so want to lower my risk which even using the Al's is about 16%.
Today I walked for 20 minutes on the tread mill, not much but a start. I can't use weights yet still 5 pound restriciton and no arm raising. And it's been 6 months since my lumpectomy.
-
Kira,
I meant to respond to a comment you made on another thread, but will make it here instead. My B.S. gave me the green light to do swimming laps about 8 weeks after my op. And honestly I got full range of motion back very quickly. I live in Sarasota and am close to a junior olympic swimming pool which I use regularly. My onc. and BS and radiologist told me that swimming is a great exercise for us women.

Hi, Kira - nice to see you here! Wow, a 5-pound restriction after 6 months? I haven't checked your other posts, but I assume it's a LE issue?
All right, girls, today my sole goal is to do the first DVD ("Start It Up") of the Slim in Six program. It's short, but my dh is home this week and there are only a few days left in the week so I don't want to spend too much time away from him.
-
Glenis, My problem is the surgery site is still open. It has finally begun to heal, but don't want to cause any more damage. I love swimming, but not allowed in water till the insision closes. I'm 6 months out by the way so you can see it's been a long hall.
-
Julia, no LE problems, thank god. No radiaiton burns causing it not to heal. I do worry about LE though I just think I'm lucky so far in the LE issue.
Thanks for the nice welcome by the way.
-
Kira,
didn't realise about the opening....definitely no swimming for you for the time being!
-
Well, that was lame... I did the "Start It Up" video from the Beach Body Slim In Six program and it was basically a 27-minute-long warm-up. I didn't break a sweat in the least, and although I didn't wear my heart rate monitor, I can tell my heart rate obviously didn't get up very much either. Hopefully the next phase, "Ramp It Up," will be a bit of a challenge.
Kira, that's good that you don't have any LE issues... yikes about the incision site! When you say it's still open, does that mean you're having to have steri-strips or something on it constantly? My drain site was open for a couple of days until I started using iodine on it (which I did because it was starting to hurt a lot, like the beginning of an infection). Iodine helped it heal over within a day, and the pain went away too.
-
Welcome all new members!!!
You will love this thread, it is the only one I come to. I did nothing today, well except eat a big lunch. It is soooo cold here!!! I am going to Zumba tomorrow. Kari, I never heard of Groupons before and you posted it and it was on the Today Show this morning. I have signed up, I hope spa treatments are available.
I hope everyone has a very happy and SAFE New Year.
-
I did Yoga and 45 min on the elliptical. I didn't do the mini tramp jumping! Tomorrow!
Welcome all you newbies! You'll give new life to the thread.
Deanna, I TOTALLY AGREE!!! It is amazing how all the little things add up to feeling CRAPPY! But I am back on the wagon, mostly, and starting to feel better!
-
Julia, May I ask how the Iodine helped. I'm so tired of the whole thing. My BS has decided if it hasn't healed in the next few weeks he is going to to some thing as he says I don't want to know about. I know it is healing some what because there is a scab in the morning, but it breaks open during the day. As far as the pain I think that is more because of the swelling than anything else for me.
-
kira, hope things improve
Had a couple of great days on the treadmill so had to give the legs a break yesterday. I'm thinking treadmill again today, I seem to go in streaks on that thing
-
Did the weights at the gym and 45 minutes of cardio on the bike. May try to get in some yoga at least for stretching!
Happy New Year everyone! -
Well I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. Have my grandbaby tonight, so he will add to my exercise.3 year olds have way to much energy.
-
Wishing you all a motivation filled New Year - I will have to be extra good myself to make up for all the careless eating over the past few weeks but I still faithfully do my Wii Fit every day - I know compared with what some of you do it doesn't seem like a very serious exercise but at least it has me doing something as oppose to nothing!! Keep moving everyone and remember the 10 minute rule!! And if anyone has any hints on how to get some quality sleep please let me know!!
-
Ainm, saw a peer reviewed well done study recently looking at WiiFit, actually it is proving to be very good exercise and more importantly, one that women seem to be able to stick with long term. I've heard one of the oncs in our group recommend it. I thought of you as soon as I saw that article, should have posted it
kira, toddlers can leave me semi comatose on the couch after a few hours. If I could stay active that long every day....
-
Little pilates and treadmill, I was close in my prediction.
Happy New Year everyone. I'm bringing it in tomorrow with yoga and accupuncture
-
YAY! Lots going on here!! Happy New Year to all of us gorgeous Motivated Souls!! Welcome welcome to the new gals.
I worked half day then DH and I took a lovely walk in the sunshine. Rain is headed our way in a few hours.
I got some good news today, I qualified for our company Top Performer's Retreat May 2-4 at the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara, for earning Employee of the Year! I'm really excited. It just happens to be the same week that we had re-assigned our San Diego trip because of the terrible storms in SoCal last week. So we will make a week long trip in May and enjoy the beautiful coast of California! So I'M VERY motivated to get in shape for our trip!
Julia, thinking of you, thanks for explaining...
Ainm, I'm having sleep issues as well as other fun menopausal issues... boohoo - no fun!!
Happy Happy Happy New Year!!!! hugs and many kisses to all!
-
Springie, I just remembered you asked me about my Granny name, heehee, I've been wondering what I want little Savannah to call me...Grandma sounds way too old for my 48 years!! haha I have to keep thinking...
-
Kari, congratulations, and so well deserved. We'll have to think of the granny name. Youngest best looking grandma is just too much of a mouthful for the little ones
-
I thought this was interesting. http://pcrm.org/kickstartHome/mealplan/index.cfm
I love to look at new veggie recipes. Yoga was a great way to start the New Year
-
Saw this on another thread, and thought I would share. It sure is a good reason to get moving.

I forgot to post that I did 25 minutes of intervals and Stairmaster and Wii Fit Plus yesterday. (This was my first time to use the actual Fit Plus game, although I've used the balance board with EA Sports Active 2. Not sure what I think about it yet... it's cute and I bet I'll like the yoga and balance games, but I'll stick with Active 2 or fitness videos for heavy-duty strength training, and Stairmaster (and jogging when weather permits and when I'm able to post-mx) for cardio.
Kira, I posted about iodine last night; will dig that up and copy/paste here or PM you.
Kari, that is awesome! Congrats!!
Kate and Kira, thanks for the links!
-
Well the WII is set up and ready for me!!! Hope it helps with my balance, the BP meds I'm on really have it off wack.
-
Way to move ladies!
Kari! Congratulations to you! Granny name, how about "Hottie"???
You are totally the cutest hottest grandma I've ever known! How about "Kari-Ma"??
OK so today I took a walk in a local park around a lake with DH and DD (and DD was in a totally bubbly mood and chat chat chat the whole time! It was WONDERFUL!! DH is so silent!!) Anyway, we walked 4.5 miles. I was very tight and sore from a hard workout in the gym yesterday, so I did gentle yoga to stretch everything out!
Tomorrow about to the gym for weights and 45 min of cardio. Yoga stretching optional! 2 more days of endless exercise before work starts again! I feel like I am really living it up!!
We have a Wii but I don't have Wii Fit. DO you all love it?? Maybe I should get it?? let me know what you think!
-
Kari - I know a granny who is called more-mum - which I think is really cute!!
-
Well got on the wii fit today. I must say I had fun on it, but boy is my balance off. I hope the exercises for that help.
-
I look forward to hearing more on the Wii Fit Kira!
Today I did my gym weight routine and then 45 minutes on the bike. Tomorrow is my last day off! I hope it's a good one!
-
I walked 4 miles today. That was after I took down Christmas and finished the puzzle Katie and I worked on. It was a great 2 weeks off. I am going to track my walking this year, everyone should Exel their workouts, you do more than you think. Keeping track is motivation!!! Keep working out girls!!!
