Any Research on How to Repair Radiated Tissue?

Options

My only obvious option is implants since I have so much lymphedema (both arms both sides of back) and don't want to hack into any other body parts.  Does anyone know if there are studies about how to make our scarred up radiated tissue better?  My implant failed miserably on my rads side.

Wish I could just go boob free but I am newly married and my new husband is "dutiful but disappointing" to quote another sister, on the boob issue.

I don't have implants, but I did have a complete bilateral mastectomy after radiation. I think the skin softens and becomes less woody with time (I'm five years out, and that seems to be the case). Also you might try physical therapy. My PT showed me how to do scar massage (and lymphedema massage), which helped free up the scar tissue and make it more pliable.

Time and healing and all by your bodies own way.  I have had the same issues.  I am now going on my 4th right side implant/T/E, 3rd on the left.  I did have CC with both about a year ago and now my right side, which had heavy duty rads, has finally healed to the point of an expander, alloderm and perhaps fat grafting here in the very near future.  Future attempts failed misrably, this is NOT to discourage YOU, everyone's body is different and everyone heals differently.  I just had surgery Jan 7th to place T/E in right and a little over a month and it looks great, healing very very nicely and PS confident that he can expand me to size of my left (550cc's), I did have a TRAM flap done in 09, which after obtaining 3 diff. infections from hospital, they had toremove the right, I have been without right implant up until Jan. 7th of this year. Part of the TRAM did remain and has helped "plump" part of my right side pocket.  Overall, I am pleased with what this new PS has accomplished and very happy it is continuing on, on a positive note...next surgey March 18th for fill and maybe fat grafting if needed. (no fills until then my port attached to T/E flipped around, go figure..LOL)

Sometimes with rads it's not the immediate issues to just deal with, but long term one's as well. Waiting would be best but talk with your PS and get more than one opinion, it's what's good for you and your body and what you'll be able to tolerate.

let me knwo how things fair for you...and good luck! (((hugs)))
