first scan since dx tomorrow
I'm feeling a little nervous. I've been having weird pains in my ribs off and on for a couple months. I didn't really worry much about it, as it wasn't constant. My onc asked if I was having any pain anywhere and I mentioned it, laughing about my body being like a big, empty house after a scary movie - I think all those creaks and groans were probably there before but now I am AWARE of them. I truly did not want or expect a test over it, but off to my first ever bone scan I go tomorrow. My onc's PA told me to call the office tomorrow afternoon and they will try to get the results for me by the end of the day. It's still gonna be a loooonnng day.

Oh....the waiting game is miserable. I know you'll be fine, but I won't pester you with the positive vibes thing, I'm sure you won't feel it until you get the results so......... (((hugs)))) and know that we'll all be with you waiting.
-
'Till tomorrow's results are in I will be thinking of you. G.
-
Thanks, all. The crazy thing is I really wasn't that concerned until the doctor felt it warranted a look see. Now my nerves are working overtime - ack! Lesson learned - I'll keep my mouth shut from now on unless I'm really worried about something. Ah well, hopefully by tonight I'll be breathing that much easier and going into the new year with a clean scan in my pocket, right? Just have to remember to breathe today...
-
Oh, Kimber, I feel nervous for you just thinking about it! The test itself is not bad, you aren't enclosed like you are for an MRI. They inject you with something radio-active, then you go off for sa bit and drink a lot to pee it out, and go back for the test. I always, of course, then need to pee halfway through!
But you are right - you will get it done, and then start the New Year knowing that all is well.
I'll be thinking of you all day. Give us an update when you can!!
-
{{Kim}} waiting with you. I went through the same exact thing. I mentioned rib pain (on my rads side) and he sent me for a bone scan. I did have a really nice tech....after the scan he said "looks like your doc is ordering a baseline scan for future comparison". His way of telling me that nothing popped out at him.
LOL @ Kerry. I have to wait to drink any water....there is no way they'd get a decent pic with me jittering all over the place with a full bladder.
-
Boy who does not hate the stinkin waiting room. At least we can be here with you. My onc springs one of those on me every so often because of the Triple Negative thing and they are always a bit scary! Just know we are all sitting with you, holding your hand and surrounding you with LOVE and happy vibes, or you could just tell your nurse "I NEED DRUGS!" LOL. Mine are always happy to give me a little something to help me settle down. My scans have all showed NED and you will be dancing with NED soon too!
XOXO
-
Kimber-big hugs today. Thinking of you. Let us know.
-
I had to chuckle when I read your post about not telling the onc about something unless it's really bothering you. Similiar thing happened to me. I thought he wanted to know about everything so I mentioned the pain I'd been having in my clavicle area. Yep. Off to x-ray. It was nothing. But I had the week to try and get it out of my mind before I went to the next visit to hear that it was nothing. I, too, am planning on keep my mouth shut unless I'm worried...
Had to edit this cause my chemo brain is working slow this morning. I wanted to say that I'm pulling for a clear scan!
-
Thinking of you!
Prayers and hugs...
-
There are so many benign reasons for rib pain. Hope you get the "all clear" soon!
-
Oh Kimber, I am going to be thinking of you as you go thru your scans. Big hugs to you and prayers it all goes well for you. The waiting after the scans is awful, but we are here for you.

kimber - thinking of you and your scanxiety! I heard that rib pain can also be caused by damage from rads (not sure if you had rads). Hoping for good results.
-
You guys are the best! No news yet. The temp nurse (regular one is on vacation this week) checked twice for me and no results yet. I was pretty upset at first - I was expecting to be done today - but I'm okay now. Hopefully they'll have an "all clear" for me tomorrow morning. I'm just going to do my best to put it out of my mind!
HairSprayMom - As I was lying on the table today, trying to get my breathing under control (I'm super claustrophobic and those straps freak me out) I was thinking I should have asked for a Valium. I could have had a SUPER rest of the day!
-
Just checking in on you too....well, I always say that bad news travels the fastest, so take the fact that you haven't heard as a good sign.
Hope you get GOOD news first thing tomorrow.
-
Well, shoot! One more day. I'll be checking on you tomorrow. Hugs, G.
-
Sherri - Yes, they strapped me down. I was laying there looking at the machine thinking "okay, so I won't be completely surrounded with this thing...I can handle this...", then I felt the first set of straps going over my legs and I was in instant panic control mode. The tech kept asking if I was all right - guess she could see how hard I was breathing - and came and unstrapped my arms as soon as my upper body was clear. I must have looked like a lunatic - lol!
-
Kerry - Hope your theory holds true.
-
They strapped you down? It's been a few years since one..but I don't remember that part! Icky.
-
I rate my scans by how many ativan pills I need. Getting straps is usually a two ativan scan. A brain MRI is definitely a two ativan scan. A breast MRI (not that I need those any more!) is a one ativan scan. Etc.
Hope to see your results posted soon!

Hi Kimber
Just checking on you also! Hope you hear the news sooon! (((Hugs)))
-
No news again. I called but no one returned my call. So I guess it will be Monday. I'm just going to assume it's nothing (like I was before they ordered the darn thing) and enjoy the long weekend. If it does turn out to be something bad, I'd just as soon not know until later anyway. Hope you all have a wonderful New Year's weekend!
-
Hi Kimber, I'm surprised this is your first ever bone scan - thought we all got cts and bone scans upon dx. Also surprised that you were able to get anything done during the holiday season - everyone in my treating team is in the Bahamas or somewhere exotic. It's really not a good time to have a scare, so I'm hoping your scan is going to start you off in the New Year on a happy note (I had my last scans early Dec, all clear, sooo relieved).
Straps? All I had was a wedge between my feet, but think I'll need a straight-jacket next time around!
-
allalone - Nope, just a ct/pet scan at dx. I've had an xray since then (checking for pneumonia), and of course the echocardiograms every 3 months (herceptin), but that's it.
-
Hi Kimber,
Just saw your post! I am hoping and praying that by the time you read this you have gotten a good report. It sure would be nice to start off the New Year with good news right?
I had a bone scan back in May, and am now wondering if I should have another one to see why I have had this persisting pain in my right hip. Sometimes it is so bad that it hurts all the way down my leg. Anywhoo, I am trying to wait it out (although it's been over a month now) as I just had a CT of the ab/pelvic area last month. Crap, too much radiation is not a good thing either!
Hope to hear from you soon!
Take care,
Sharon

Well, Kimber, it will have to be Monday, then. I think it's pretty crumby that they make you wait, but I think it's a good sign, that the results are positive, as expected, and there's no big rush. By all means, put it out of your mind and enjoy yourself. Hugs, and if we don't hear before then, Happy New Year. G.
-
Kimber, well shoot, sorry you haven't heard anything.
But really, if it had been bad news, you would have heard by now. Put it out of your mind (yeah, I know...) and enjoy the weekend!
-
Kimber, I'm getting ready to go out for New Year's and just checked because you have been on my mind. Geesh! Can't believe you haven't heard. But here's what I wanted to leave you with--every few years I end up having a bone scan, in fact had once last month. The reason is intermittent funny rib pains that seem bad for a few weeks, then disappear. My scans are always clean. There is a name for the inflammation of the tissue between the ribs and I think that is really what I have. Can't remember the name of it but it has been written about here. Anyway, I would bet my stupid car, seat warmers and all, that you are going to be B9 just like me.
And you were right about the weather getting better. Huge snow melt today and another melt tomorrow. Not even going down below freezing for a couple of days. Thanks so much, whatever you did, blowing that hot air my way....
-
Kimber,
Just dropping in to give support....we're all waiting with you. In the meantime, I like your plan to let it rest and enjoy the weekend. Have a great New Year's Day!
Molly

I had my first scan a few weeks ago and they had a awesome machine which only covered your legs not your head. This was a new machine and I am in Canada. Also very claustrophobic. I will be thinking of you.................Hugs and prayers
-
Hey Kimber, Just stopping in to check on you today.
