My boyfriend just told me that he is taking the day off from work tomorrow. We just got back from the in-laws and I am SO looking forward to just having a cozy day together at home. Maybe going on a run in the afternoon and then making a good dinner together in the evening. Mmmm.....it will be a nice day!
-
Awesome, krcll! Enjoy your day! I am going to keep posting photos and bumping threads until that other thread dies. Be warned.

Bugs....What a mug of Gabe
-
Great pictures - I so need to figure out how to get them here. I can't even get my avatar picture to work......I can get them transferred from Facebook, but can't get them here.
I'm feeling really happy right now - DH and I just got a dresser that belonged to my Grandmother. I always loved that dresser and when my Mom decided to get rid of it I was jumping up and down - YEEEEESSSS!!!
-
Bugs, thanks for the cheery thread...
I, unfortunately, am back to square one, exactly where I was this time last year. I have to drive with my heated car seat on full high, and as a result my butt steams in the frigid air as soon as I step out of it, and people tend to stare.(Life on the tundra is back again. Had 13 inches of snow on Christmas day.) The concrete abutment at the end of the driveway is back, thanks to the snow plow which came finally today.I have to floor the accelerator, fly over it and try to land in the one set of tire ruts in the driveway. I don't even try to careen out of control into the garage.
Meanwhile, my mother in New Hampshire does not have a flake. What's up with the South? (I wonder if Octobergrace is marooned on her mountain in Asheville.) Nothing puts me in quite as huge a twit as a big pile of snow--well I guess a big ice storm puts me in more of a mood to rant, but this is close.Piss on blizzards.
Piss on breast cancer too while we're at it.

If it's any consolation, I have recently learned the reason for "heated seats". They help with the post x-country ski (cycling in rain, general crummy weather) cool down.
Unfortunately, I don't have them so turn up my heater on "high".
For the record, I can think of better ways of "warming up".
My skis are ready for Thursday when I head back up to the mountains for more. My poor body needs a rest. I also have work.
Anyway, wishing everyone the most wonderful New Year. - Claire
-
Thanks for the laugh, Weesa! I think the warmth is supposed to be heading our way today and we'll be getting back to normal temps for a while. I'm so ready - I don't have seat warmers either.
-
Oh Sherri, thanks so much for reposting Weesa's post. I have tears from laughing. Weesa, your butt would have a permanent steam up here. LOVE your description of getting in the driveway. There have been many a time that Gabe would say "you will NOT be able to get out of the driveway" and I say "ohh, just watch me". hehe
-
I glad this topic got started! I really wanted to post something yesterday but the only thing that was on my mind was how happy I was that we have finally gotten my dad to an internist that welcomes the families invovlement and has a wonderful supporting staff. He has developed dementia along with some other problems and next week is the mini test for evaluating the dementia. It's been a really battle getting to this point but we are finally going to get some answers.
But I have another one to add. My DIL were down at the kid's store with my 1 year old grandson. She was helping me find a couple of Christmas toys for Finn. She walks up to me and says "how about this book for Finn?". I'm looking at it and my first thought is "Wow! That's really an advanced book! Is he that smart of a kid??". Then I looked a little closer at the title and it was about teaching a child about their new brother/sister growing in mom. What a way to tell me that she's pregnant! I loved it! Lots of hugs in the store!

Thinking about my heated car seats made me think of a funny thing that happened to me a few years ago in the summer. I had purchased a brand new car in 2004 and felt overwhelmed by the manuals and video that came with it. I stashed them in the car, thinking someday I would get them out and look at them. Meanwhile I slowly learned by trial and error the basic rudiments of the car--I could turn on the wipers, lights, turn signals and never tried anything more exotic than the basics. I have a mechanical ability worse than the North American woodchuck, so I didn't try to delve any further into the car, but was always a bit bothered by all the buttons and switches all over the dial that I never ever dared touch. It looked more like a cockpit than a Porsche.
So, one extremely hot July day I left the office to get lunch at Burger King and sat in the line for a while with my A/C running. On the way back to my office I became aware that I was burning up, literally, and my ass felt like it was in flames. (The car I had owned previous actually had burst into flames while it was parked, so naturally I became alarmed I had screwed something up again and was on fire.) I saw a guy I knew coming out of my office as I was parking, so I said, "Hey, Rick, are there any flames coming out the bottom of my car?" He walked over and stuck his head in my window to talk, and after a few moments, he said calmly, "Weesa, there are no flames coming out the bottom of your car, but your burger is resting on your seat warmer button." That was how I discovered I had seat warmers, back in the summer of '06.
-
Weesa....something similar happened to me years ago...I have a Suburban (who I call big Bertha!!) with leather seats that are heated....the knob is on the side of the seats by the door.,..,some how one day I hit the toggle switch and couldn't figure out how to turn it off,,..I kept thinking forward as off when it was backwards!!!! It probably wasn't very long that my behind was cooking, but it sure felt like forever!!!
-
Sigh...guess I'm posting another pic tonight.
-
BUGS< I LOVE YOUR PICTURE!! Just watching the food channel and sooooo happy I have an appetite, I want to eat today preferably chocolate.
-
AnacortesGirl - Congrats on the new grandbaby on the way! What a sweet way to tell you.
-
Christy, congrats on the new grandbaby!! How exciting...and what a way to find out!
-
OK, in honor of my baby's 13th birthday tomorrow (and yes, I will be posting this pic on facebook for him, hehe)
Everybody say "Awwwwww"
-
Cristy.....congrats on the 2011 addition to your family.
Sherri.....I think we need to post ideal desserts to "eat first". Just had some Christmas Pudding with a neighbor today. Made more hard sauce with extra brandy as had been a bad day. It was delish. Much better than on Christmas Day when so much was going on.
I am going back to the mountains with friend Amanda and family tomorrow. We are skiing, her husband and young son are tubing. Snow should be perfect and roads clear.
Then a fun cyclists' party on New Years Eve. Can't wait.
-
Awwwww!
-
How beautiful, Congradulations, what a gift, enjoy......
-
Bugs.....awwwww....now what will Gabe say when you post it on fb....can you believe that you will be the parent of a teenager? Miriam will be 13 in march....I haven't had a "teenager" in over 2 years!!! but that doesn't mean (is this the correct spelling) that my 21 year old doesn't behave like a "teenager"...you should see his new haircut....I fat mowhawk!! I told him he looked like an "a**hole" ...saw pictures of him on fb before I saw him in person and wondered if it was a real pic!!! can't believe he did it!!! The count down is on till he leaves....and only one more meal with him...tomorrow night...he works tonight and Friday night and Sunday night is going on with friends...better not stay out too late as his flight is at 6am Monday morning!!! Sorry to hijack the awwww!!!
-
Karen, no such thing has hijacking! I cannot believe your son got a mohawk! Well, I'm reading about teenage boys and that the frontal lobe of the brain doesn't develop completely til early to mid 20's.
I made the mistake of saying that in front of Gabe once...and now when he does something not so bright, he just looks at me and says "undeveloped frontal lobe, Mom". Ugh..
And..I'm not sure how he will react when I post it on facebook. Hey, at least I chose one where he is clothed! Not the naked on the scale picture, lol.
-
My DD got a tatoo her first year in college and I was really mad. She doesn't regret it and when I finally looked at it, pretty, just not something I'd do. It's a women's face and hair. In the waves of her hair is her life's experiences, I'd never admit it, but it's very unique.
-
I have to say "Awwwwww" first! That's a cute pic. And now he's 13. Isn't life amazing watching these kids grow up?? And the frontal lobe thingy. That explains so much with my DS! Thank goodness he's 33 now!
Tattoos. I shudder at the thought of my kids getting one. I know that they are totally OK and seem to be the thing to do now but I really don't like them. Just my hang up.
-
My good news for the day: The stomach flu that my darling son shared with me is gone and my living room is back to normal (took the tree down). Heading down to the MOA tonight with some friends for some delayed New Year socializing.
-
I'm so happy it's a new year! Even though it's just a number, I am so happy to see 2010 over. Die, 2010, die!! This is my year to live it up and I'm starting with some sun and tequilla south of the border down Mexico way tomorrow. Happy New Year everyone!!
-
Happy 2011 to everyone!!!!
Both of my girls got tattoos when they went to college, my oldest got a small Hello Kitty on her front hip and my youngest just went to off to college this year and ended up with a small star on her foot. I really didn't expect her to get one.......Is that some kind of rebellion thing when they move out?
I can't seem to get my picture up, but the website/computer let me put my girls picture up - they are now my avatar.

I ran a half marathon today - 13.1 miles. Was a rare warm day here in upstate NY - I havent been able to run outside much at all for the past month or more and the longest run I have run was 8.3 miles TWO weeks ago. I ran the half marathon today as a spur of the moment thing and ran it in 2:09 - under 10 min miles!
What a way to start the year!
-
Hi everyminute, from WNY too!! You are quite the runner!! My DD runs in the 5K Komen run for a co-worker's daughter every year. She wants me to run this year with the team. I told her I'll walk the 5K, not fit enough to run. The past two days here were really nice. I'm so excited another WNY'er
-
Every...congrats on the 1/2 marathon....quite a pace:)...I've never been a runner...even when I was 21!!! but I'll walk and walk and walk...
-
Mary, Keep up the great work. You are a inspiration to us all.
Maureen, I also am from Buffalo, don't run but walk. Betty
