Lara Mast. Bra
Hi Girls,
I recently discovered the Amoena Lara bra. Not sure if it has been mentioned but it's my new favorite. Comes in several colors. I have it in gray (my current favorite) and black. It is super comfortable for me and looks pretty cute on, if I do say so myself.

I bought the Lara bra because it was the only one that didn't show with a pretty summer dress that I had bought. I understand that Mx bras need to cover the area that a breast form covers, but do they have to all have such broad shoulders and be so high in the middle (of the front)? Any time I need to use a bra that covers as little as possible (but still covers the neccessary!) I use the Lara. And it is cute! It almost looks like a normal bra. The Anita 5362 Nastasja also has a small "footprint" and has pretty straps that can be shown. Why don't more bras come in colors???

I like the Lara, too! For me, it's not as comfortable as some other bras, like the Nastasja (krcll just mentioned) or the Amoena Marlena, or the Elita pocketed camisole bra, but it's definitely cuter and creates a really nice line in clothes. Plus, I can wear the 34A with my smaller (size 3) forms and it definitely enhances my size.

Is it smooth material - the kind that looks good when you are wearing a T shirt? That's my biggest gripe about mastec. bras.
-
Yes, I wear the Lara with t-shirts all the time.
Thanks, also, Barb for the names of the other bras. I need to check them out. I normally like the Anita bras (always cute and comfortable) but the breast form I am currently using seems to not fit as well in the Anita bras that I have. The form is an Amoena so maybe that's why.
-
Carol,
I thought I'd first heard about the Nastasja from you LOL!
I also like the Anita Gloria bra, but I think Anita may be discontinuing that one. I noticed a new Anita bra online but I haven't tried it yet, called the Tonya. Here's a link: http://www.metromedicalonline.com/anita5706.html. Have you tried this one, by any chance?
-
Hi Everybody, a happy, healthy new year to all.... I also have the Amoena Lara. However, if I am on a long flight, I find the hard inserts on the sides of the cups dig in a bit, specially on my mastectomy side. I like the Anita sports bra for comfort. I found the best prices on www.metromedicalonline.com.
-
Barb- DUH! Yes, you did hear about that bra from me. I just forgot the name of it. Just looked at it online and realized it was the one I mentioned. I'm blaming it on getting older.
I have not tried the Tonya but it does look a lot like the Lara so I might give it a try.

I found all of the mastectomy bras thoroughly depressing. Fortunately, in Toronto, we have a lingery store called Melmira. There, they will take their regular, glorious bras, and sew on a very soft backing to create a pocket for my prosthetic. Not an inexpensive solution, but it my left breast is going to be lonely, she can at least look pretty
Maybe you can try this with your local bra boutiques? A happy 2011 thought.
-
Silvergirl- I've heard that you can do this, but I don't see how this works. If I tuck in my breast form in one of my old bras now, half of it is sticking out of the bra. Are the "normal" bras that you sew a pocket into quite full-coverage or does the pocket (and form) stick partially out of the cup? I've always thought that mastectomy bras are relatively big in order to cover all that cleavage that isn't there anymore.
Erica- I love your bra lists. I have just ordered the Anita Gloria and Amoena Jada on the recommendation from your website (if I remember correctly....). I also bought the Nastasja on your recommendation. The only thing with that one, along with the Lara, is that I find the cup a little small for my form. I think I am going to get a breast form that is slightly smaller for both the Nastasja and Lara bras. My remaining breast seems to be between to breast form sizes so I could go either way.
-
krcll,
I know what you mean about bras and forms not always working together. I've tried some other nice Anita bras that unfortunately didn't work with the shape and/or size of my breast forms. Thank goodness we can exchange/return bras when they don't work out.
When I get discouraged about this, I remind myself how hard it was for me to find bras that I liked for my natural breasts (which were a very average size, 34B/C). At the time I was first diagnosed, I had exactly one bra that I liked (I'd bought about eight of them!).

Hi, on another thread I mentioned that Nordstroms sews a pocket ( or two ) for you for free if you buy their bras. I like the Spanx brallelujah and find that my size 5 amoena silicone form fits perfectly in them. You need to make an appointment with the fitter before you go so you don't have to deal with a novice who does not know what's going on.
-
TokyoSing,
Which brallelujah style do you have? I notice that most of them are front closure, but there's one ("hosiery style") that isn't.
Thanks.
-
I bought 3 different Amoena bras a month ago and the one I really like is the Mona. Out of all my bras it is the most comfortable for day to day wear.
But I have a question. So far I walked in to stores with my script to buy the bras. How does this process work if I buy online? I checked out the Metro Medical site but I didn't see anything about how they handle scripts for the purchase.
-
Unfortunately, most online sites don't accept insurance, so you would have to submit the claim yourself. You might call customer service at MetroMedical and ask their advice.
I use my insurance allowance at local shops and then if I want to buy an extra bra (or one my local stores don't carry), I order online (where the prices are almost always cheaper).
-
Hi Erica, I do have the front closure "brallelujah". As I mentioned before, I get them from Nordstrom's. They sew the pockets on for free and also claim directly from my insurance company. I only pay what is not covered.
-
I had an Anita form and wore Amoena bras and it fit fine. I really liked the Lara bra but then later found the Lena and I found it more comfortable with the stretch lace band.
-
MarieK- Is the Lena the same bra as the Lara but with a stretch lace band? I am most interested in if the Lena has an equally small "footprint" (think normal bra vs. "Brunhilda warrior" mast. bras) as the Lara. Stretchy lace band sounds great!
-
Is this bra padded. I have ordered some through that metromedical (which seems to be the cheapest). I don't want padded.
